«Jr. Fledgling»

B’land yawned, stretching his arms over his head as he watched his dragon play in the water. “Are you almost ready Cytonath? I’m falling asleep out here waiting on you.” His alis gryph, Veran, warbled in agreement and looked in the direction on the bronze fledgling.

Cytonath snorted and said, “If you are so bored why don’t you come in here and swim with me B’land?” He swam closer to the shore and rested his small claws on the edge of the lake.

Veran warbled in annoyance but B’land stood up and said, “Alright fine you win but we can’t stay down here much longer. I have a class later tonight and I need to have time to change into dry clothing.”

Cytonath watched as his rider took off his short and then waded into the water. “I knew you wanted to come in rider-mine.”

B’land swam up into the middle of the lake and playfully shoved water at his lifemate. “Yeah I guess I did. It’s nice out today don’t you think?” He treaded water for a moment and then went under the surface quickly as his dragon squirted water back at him.

“Yes it is nice out,” Cytonath said when his rider had reappeared above the surface. “It would be a nice day for flying don’t you think?”

B’land frowned and said, “You know very well that you’re not permitted to fly until you’re a sr. fledgling Cytonath.” He pushed his hair out of his face in irritation and raised his eyebrow as his dragon sighed, emitting a small wisp of smoke from the side of his mouth. “You’ve been flaming already?” He asked angrily.

Cytonath warbled in innocence and said, “First off, I didn’t mean that I would like to fly today, I was only commenting that the air would be nice for those that can. As for the flaming, no I have not started yet because I am not permitted to. It happens every time I sigh heavily or sneeze, times like that.”

B’land swam back towards the shore and sat down, looking back at his dragon in puzzlement. “You’re not physically supposed to be able to breath fire, or even emit smoke until the end of your sr. fledgling year. You can't flame can you?”

Cytonath shook his head slightly and said, “No not really. I can get a spark or a small flame now and then but it’s not reliable.”

“What?” B’land rubbed his forehead in thought and said, “Come on, we’re going to see the fledglingmaster. There is something up with you that’s for sure. There’s no way you could be sparking yet.”

Cytonath sighed, emitting another wisp of smoke, and got out of the water, shaking himself off slightly. “What do you think he will say?” The bronze asked as his rider put his shirt back on and then headed back to the Caer.

He shrugged and stroked Veran as she landed on his shoulder and then said, “I have no idea, but we’re going to find out.” It was only a short walk to the Cearbowl and when they reached the fledgling trainers’ quarters B’land knocked lightly and waited for the door to be answered.

When C’leb finally opened the door he smiled and asked, “What can I do for you B’land?” He smiled down at Cytonath in greeting and then turned his attention back to the bronzerider.

B’land cleared his throat and said, “Cytonath is emitting smoke and he says he can get a spark every once in awhile if he tries hard enough.” He rubbed the dragon’s eye ridges as he nuzzled him and then said, “There isn’t anyway that could be possible is there?”

C’leb stroked his chin and said, “Emitting smoked and sparks already? How old is he now, roughly six months right?” He was talking more to himself so B’land didn’t answer and let him continue thinking out loud. “They shouldn’t even start seeing smoke until a year and a half, this is peculiar.” He looked Cytonath over and then asked, “Have you seen it?”

B’land nodded and said, “Yes I saw it while we were at the lake. He sighed heavily and a wisp of smoke curled from the side of his mouth.” He rubbed Cytonath’s jaw in reassurance and asked, “There isn’t anything wrong with him is there? I mean, I’ve been taking good care of him and all.”

C’leb shook his head and said, “It have nothing to do with you B’land. I think he had matured early, quite early I might add.” He looked Cytonath over again and said, “May I see Cytonath?”

The bronze warbled and sighed heavily, emitting a larger wisp of smoke this time. “That one was larger than most of the other ones,” he commented.

C’leb nodded and smiled. “I think that this just means that he will have immensely strong fire power when he’s older that’s all. I wouldn’t worry about it too much unless he starts having difficulty.”

B’land nodded and said, “Thank you fledgling trainer.” He was about to turn around when C’leb cleared his throat. B’land turned around and asked, “Yes?”

C’leb smiled and said, “I don’t think there’s anything wrong but I wouldn’t spread this around, just to be on the safe side alright?” He rubbed his chin again, obviously in thought, and then said, “I’ll see you at class later today correct?”

B’land nodded and said, “Yes I’ll be there.”
