By nature of national tax laws, a donation made to a foreign charity is not tax deductible unless the donor has financial interests within the country in which the charity operates. Unfortunately, relatively few Canadians, and Americans, have interests abroad to take tax advantages from non-resident charities. With the creation of the Canadian Foundation, Canadian Fraters will have a vehicle to invest money in the Fraternity and receive a tax relief. Donations may or may not be directed, that is, held in trust for a period of not less than 10 years (Canadian Tax Act). All Foundation donations and activities are reported to Revenue Canada on an annual basis.
