Here are a few pictures taken during my travels.
I took a four day trip to San Francisco. This was really a great mini-vacation. It was nice
not having to answer to anyone or work with anyone else's schedule. It was all about me and
what I wanted to do. Finally! I saw a lot of great things while in San Francisco. I took a
City tour as well as a tour over to Alcatraz Island. I also did a lot of walking around in
Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and North Beach (little Italy). I went across the Golden Gate
Bridge in a bus and rode quite a few cable cars. Here are some pictures of my trip.

I took a five day trip to Georgia to visit my little sister and participate in her wedding.
My sister lives in a real small town (Allenhurst). We basically had to go over to the next town
to do anything (Hinesville); the big things in Hinesville are Walmart, the Mexican Restaurant
(El Portro), and Fort Stewart. We spent quite a bit of time at Fort Stewart. Our time at Fort Stewart was
divided between the Emergency room (my nephew almost cut off his finger), the chapel (for my
sister's wedding-ceremony, and the reception hall (also for my sister's wedding-reception). We
also spent a day walking around Savannah, particularly River Street. Savannah was a neat town
full of history and southern charm.

I took a five week trip to New Orleans in June/July 02 to attend Recruiting School for the Naval
Reserve. Boy this was quite the trip. I had a lot a fun and made a lot of great friends.
Bourbon Street and the French Quarter are quite the adventure. The one thing that I just can't
get out of my mind is how the streets have the distinct smell of a mixture of vomit, urine,
and alcohol. However, once you get past the smell it sure is a lot of fun. There are some real
cool dance clubs down there. I must admit I love the fact that you can take your alcoholic
beverage to go...and many of the bars let you bring a drink in with you. And the only cover
charges seemed to be for the strip bars. The Acquarium of the America's was also pretty cool; I
even saw a white alligator (not something you typically see in Southern California). The cuisine
is awesome. I love that Creole/Cajun food. That Gumbo was sure great...now if I could only find
Gumbo like that here in San Diego.

I took a five day trip to New Jersey in April 02 to visit some friends. I had a lot of fun on
this trip. On Saturday night "the girls" went into Philadelphia to go dancing. We started out at a club
named FLOW (which was pretty lame) and then we continued on to a club named EGYPT which was actually
pretty cool. During this trip my friends and I took a Sunday drive down to Atlantic City; Atlantic
City is pretty neat. It was raining the day we went to Atlantic City and there were still a lot of
people down there; I'd love to check it out during the summertime.

I took a two week trip to Oahu, Hawaii in March 2002. This was another trip sponsored by the
wonderful U.S. Naval Reserve. The Navy put me up in a
nice condo (The Aston Pacific Monarch) two blocks from Waikiki Beach. I stayed on the 27th
floor and had an awesome view of the ocean.

I took a 30-day trip to Egypt in the Fall of 2001. I went to Egypt with the
U.S. Naval Reserve to provide real world force
security during Operation Bright
Star 01/02. To read more about my trip to Egypt go to my Navy Page.

I took a two week trip to Oahu, Hawaii in the Summer of 2001. This was not only a fun-filled
trip; it was free! The U.S. Naval Reserve sent me
there for my two weeks of Annual Training. I stayed at the
Radisson Prince Kuhio in Waikiki. I would highly recommend this hotel to those of you who
might be traveling to Oahu in the future. This hotel is beautiful, had great service, and was
only one-block from Waikiki beach. I decided to do a little research while on the island.
You see I got island fever and the only cure was Mai Tais and lots of them! I figured I would
take on the challenge of deciding who made the best Mai Tai on Oahu. It was a tough job, but
somebody had to do it. This research took me from Waikiki to the North Shore. Finally, after
two weeks of dedicated testing, the results were tallied and the award for the "Best Mai Tai
on Oahu"...DRUM ROLL PLEASE...goes to the Radisson
Prince Kuhio in Waikiki hands down. The "Honorable Mention" goes to Hale'iwa Joe's in Hale'iwa on the North Shore (they even let you
keep the cool cup; it has a beach in the bottom). The "Worst Mai Tai on Oahu" award goes to the
Sheraton (they use a Mai Tai mix - yuck!). Believe it or not, I actually did work during this trip (I had evenings and
one weekend off); it wasn't all fun and games (well, okay, it was all fun and games).

I took a two and one-half week trip to Naples, Italy in the Summer of 2000. Yet again, this
trip was funded by the U.S. Naval Reserve (my favorite
employer!) for my two weeks of Annual Training. I stayed at the Tennis Hotel in Angano and worked out at Cappodichino. I worked during
the week, but had my evenings and one weekend free. Saturday I took the train to Rome;it is
about a three hour train ride from Naples to Rome. It was nice to return to Rome after all of
these years; the last time I was in Rome was for Easter 1994. During my 1994 trip, I threw
some coins in the Fountain of Trevi to follow
along with the legend which says that if you throw coins into the fountain you will return to
Rome. The legend must be true--I came back. Of course, I also visited St. Peter's Basillica
(I was there during the Jubilaeum), the Sistine
Chapel, and the Colluseum. Sunday I toured the local sites of Naples. I went to the Pozzuoli
Ampitheater, the Solfatara, the Cuma Caves, and the Baia Castle. It was so nice to be eating
authentic Italian food again and (roughly) speaking the language I learned many years back.

In the Spring 2000, my cousin Kathy and my Aunt Sally came to San Diego for vacation. While they
were in town we visited Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Old Town,
Seaport Village, and the historic Gaslamp district.
