Nitrogen fixing is getting the ( N≡N ) molecular nitrogen
out of the atmosphere and making ammonia. Bacteria, " in the soil ",
fix nitrogen from the air and make ( NH3 + NH3 ) ammonia.

Really, this takes a lot of energy to farming. A few species of bacteria
do it naturally. The agriculture industry uses vast amounts of natural gas
to make ammonia from atmospheric nitrogen that is expensive.
