Trip to Mykayla |

Saturday, February 24, 2001 It’s been about 4 months since I have written. It’s been 5 months since I became an “official” waiter in this process. Work has kept me very busy and so the time has passed pretty fast. I think this wait is harder on mom than on me. She sits over at her house and worries about “what could go wrong”. She even confessed one day that she worries about something happening to her and not living to see Mykayla. I told her not to worry, but that is a very good reason for taking good care of herself. About a month ago, we did have a little scare in the China adoption process. The CCAA came out with some new regulations. They are not major changes but it has thrown some people’s timelines off that were close to being DTC. It is not supposed to affect those with DTCs before February 2001. I still worry that we should go ahead and have the new guidelines met anyway. I don’t want the paperwork held up because of a few things I could easily attend to now. They changed the medical form slightly and now require a Hep B test. Also, single adopters must have a statement that explicitly says they are heterosexual. And there must be a signed statement from the people you name as guardians in the homestudy in the case of something happening to me. These are relatively easy to get done. I’m sure in the next few months of waiting we will find out if we need to get these ready. The only other news is that the wait is continuing to lengthen. There were rumors of the process speeding up after Chinese New Year, but the first group to go to the matching rooms since that time is not happening any faster. They are expecting to hear about their referrals this coming week. I am trying to mentally prepare myself to have to wait over the summer and travel after school starts. Waiting over the summer will be hard but at least it will give me time to save a little more money. Some good news—my sister, Sherry, is making good progress with her fear of flying. She and her husband are scheduled to take a “test” flight in about 2 weeks. They are flying to Vegas for a long weekend. She’s getting a little nervous, but she seems confident that she will be able to handle it. Her therapist said it would be good to take a couple of test flights before our actual trip. It’s kind of like training; she gets to practice all of the coping skills she has been learning. |
