Congratulations on your call as a missionary to serve the Lord in the Tennessee Nashville Mission (T.N.M.)! The T.N.M. is a great place to serve. You will gain experiences while serving that will provide a life time of memories, and mold you into the person you want to be. There are many people that have been prepared to hear the message you will share. There are things you must do to prepare yourself for serving productively in the T.N.M. There is an award system implemented to help you become a better missionary. The first of these awards is the Samuel Smith Award. Earning the Samuel Smith Award is mandatory in order to be a senior companion, mission leader, or drive a mission vehicle. You are expected to be certified in 45 days. Start working on it now! Take advantage of the opportunities to work on this award while at the M.T.C. Once in the mission field, begin immediately to pass these things off to your District or Zone Leader.

Here are the requirements for the Samuel Smith Award:
(Everything in Green can be done before mission)

SCRIPTURE MASTERY:

• Complete reading of the Book of Mormon beginning from the time that you recieved your        TNM mission call.
• Memorize and Pass off the Folowing Scriptures with background:

• Read the White Missionary Handbook
• Read the TNM Handbook

DISCUSSION MASTERY:

• Memorize discussions 1 through 4:  __ 1  __ 2 __ 3   __ 4

PROSELYTING SKILLS:

• On Splits with your Zone or District Leader do the following:
  • Demonstrate effective tracting/door approach skills
  • Demonstrate ability ro challenge non-members to baptism 10 times
  • Teach discussions 1-4 in a real situation to investigators or member(s)
  • Be evaluated teaching the 1^st discussion by an Assistant ot the President
  • Effectively use the blue planner

COMPANIONSHIP STUDY:

• Complete the following Missionary Guide assignments:
  • Introduction
  • The Purpose of Missionary Work
  • Christ-like Attributes
  • The Commitment Pattern
  • Build Relationships of Trust

After you have completed the requirements for the Samuel Smith Award, you will be expected to earn the remaining awards in 3 month intervals or less. The remaining awards are:
Parley P. Pratt Award
Dan Jones Award
Wilford Woodruff Award
Joseph Smith Award
