Feedback:
This website was just a practice, it happened as I was
practicing Frontpage and other softwares. I would be glad to receive your
comments on the website. Also I can offer my advice if someone wishes to have a
try on this. I'm still learning and I think it's really impossible to say I know
web designing.
There are mainly following things in web designing
Web pages are the basic documents of the World Wide Web and are written in
HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). Web pages can either be part of a web
site, or they can stand alone.
1 HTML
HTML
(Hypertext Markup Language) The standard markup language used for documents
on the World Wide Web. HTML development is carried out by the World Wide Web
Consortium. The HTML language uses tags to indicate how Web browsers should
display page elements such as text and graphics, and how Web browsers should
respond to user actions such as hyperlink activation by means of a key press
or mouse click. Most Web browsers, notably Microsoft Internet Explorer and
Netscape Navigator, recognize HTML tags beyond those included in the present
standard.
If you design in Microsoft FrontPage it is a WYSIWYG (WYSIWYG: Acronym for
What You See Is What You Get. Allows a user to view a document as it will
appear in the final product and to directly edit the text, graphics, and
other elements within that view.) design tool that generates HTML code for
you when you add page elements in the Normal pane. FrontPage reads and
writes HTML files and no knowledge of the HTML language is required
Editing HTML
You don't need to know HTML to create a web page in FrontPage.
When you edit a web page in the Normal pane, you can show or hide HTML tag
markers that indicate the start and end of underlying HTML tags. These
markers appear on the page as yellow icons within the content of the page.
If you want to work in the HTML pane, all the standard editing commands are
available (for example, Copy, Cut, Paste, Find, and Replace). FrontPage also
shows the properties of HTML tags so you can modify properties yourself.
You can also modify how FrontPage formats HTML tags displayed in the HTML
pane. For example, you can display the names of HTML tags in uppercase and
HTML attributes in lowercase to differentiate them.
HTML preservation
When you open an existing page, including pages created in other editors,
FrontPage automatically preserves the content, syntax, and formatting of
HTML of that page, even if it contains errors or unrecognized HTML. When you
save the page, FrontPage saves any custom formatting — such as indentation,
the capitalization of tags, and so on — for any new HTML you've written. The
original HTML of the page, however, will not be modified or reformatted in
any way unless it was edited in FrontPage.
While you edit pages as you would in a word processor — typing and
formatting text, and adding graphics, tables, and other page elements —
FrontPage adds the HTML tags in the background. Your page is displayed to
you as it would appear in a Web browser. However, you can display the HTML
tags on the page, and if you are familiar with HTML, you can write and edit
the HTML tags yourself.
2 DHTML
Web sites displayed within a frame. Web Parts can also contain controls,
scripting, dynamic HTML (DHTML) (DHTML: An extension of Hypertext Markup
Language (HTML) that adds multimedia, database access, and an object model
that programs can use to change styles and attributes of page elements
(objects) and to replace existing elements (objects) with new ones.), or
Extensible Markup Language (XML) to provide interactivity.
3.Javascript
A scripting language developed by Netscape Communications and Sun
Microsystems, Inc. Compared to Java, JavaScript is limited in performance
because it is not compiled before execution. Basic online applications and
functions can be added to Web pages with JavaScript, but the number and
complexity of available application programming interface functions are
fewer than those available with Java. JavaScript code, which is included in
a Web page along with the HTML code, is generally considered easier to write
than Java, especially for novice programmers. A JavaScript-compliant Web
browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, is
required to interpret JavaScript code
JavaScript makes it possible to build Java programs. The script anchor
represents a script written in JavaScript to your web site.
Java applets are frequently used to add effects and interactivity to a web
site, for anything from animations to games.
The applet's ability to display properly and avoid errors, however, depends
on the browser settings of some site visitors
4.Cascading style sheet
CSS: A cascading style sheet is a document containing style information that
can be referenced by multiple web pages. Styles define appearance and
formatting of content on web pages and allow authors more control over how
content is displayed in browsers.
Cascading Style Sheet
(CSS) An HTML specification developed by the World Wide Web Consortium that
allows authors of Web pages to attach style sheets to HTML documents. Style
sheets can include typographical information on how the page should appear,
such as the font of the text in the page. CSS also directs the way in which
the style sheets of the HTML document and the user's style will blend.
5.Extensible Markup Language (XML)
Extensible Markup Language (XML: A format for delivering rich, structured
data from an application in a standard, consistent way. XML describes the
content of a Web document, whereas HTML tags describe how the document
looks.) to provide interactivity.
6.Web browser
Software that interprets the markup of files in HTML, formats them into Web
pages, and displays them to the user. Some browsers can also permit users to
send and receive e-mail, read newsgroups, and play sound or video files that
are embedded in Web documents. Internet Explorer is a web browser by
Microsoft .
7.Internet
The worldwide collection of computers, networks and gateways that use TCP/IP
protocols to communicate with one another. At the heart of the Internet are
high-speed data communication lines between major host computers, consisting
of thousands of commercial, government, educational, and other computer
systems that route data and messages. Currently, the Internet offers a range
of services to users, such as e-mail, the World Wide Web, FTP, Usenet
newsgroups, Gopher, IRC, telnet, and others.
8.World Wide Web (www)
The total set of interlinked hypertext documents residing on HTTP servers
all over the world. Documents on the World Wide Web are called pages or Web
pages, which are written in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). Web pages are
identified by URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) that specify the particular
computer and path name by which a file can be accessed, and transmitted from
node to node to the end user under HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol). Web
pages may contain text in a variety of fonts and styles, pictures, graphics,
movie clips, sounds, as well as small, embedded software programs that are
executed when a site visitor activates them by clicking a hyperlink. Site
visitors may also be able to download files and send messages to other users
via e-mail by using links on a Web page. The World Wide Web was developed by
Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 for the European Laboratory for Particle Physics
(CERN).
There are many consideration on designing of a website. This time I have tried
to design very simple template, which will be of lesser size. It's very
important as it will load fast and don't let visitors go awry. The main
consideration on the design process is firstly the purpose of the website,
secondly the space available relation to size of the whole website. Using
similar patterns will reduce file size, also lesser use of images will make
webpage of lesser size and inversely it will be loaded fast. Although it is
possible to use most of office application to design webpage, a html file, its
relatively very difficult to have the same effects on Internet Explorer. Also
the font and operating software gives different look to same website on
different systems.
This website is best viewed on windows2000 operating software, or later, IE 5.0
and later and Office 2002 and later versions.
Please do feel easy to mail me, I will be eagerly waiting for your response.
