Roseland Theatre (from the Citysearch site)
Concert Hall Profile
The Scene
Whether it's Ziggy Marley, Motorhead or Medeski, Martin & Wood, the Roseland is hoppin' almost every night of the week.

What to Expect
Decent stage views can be had from virtually everywhere. The balcony gets a little stuffy at times, but offers excellent visability and its own bar. The sound is usually great--which is probably why Little Feat recorded its last live album here.

All-ages Shows
During under-21 shows, adults are forced to retire to the hot, cramped, smoky balcony bar for a drink. The Roseland Grill downstairs, however, is a great alternative when waiting for the headliner--that is, if there's not another show happening there.

General  Here is something that Glow Gal posted at the Perch:
"Anyway, here's a description of Portland:

*****************************************

It is an amazing city. First of all, it is so beautiful. On a clear day (and summer is great in Portland - the chance of the typical rainy weather is at a minimum) you can see Mount Hood very near, and Mount Baker, Mount St. Helens, and even Mt. Ranier peeking over the hills. The town is planned very well. Buildings can't be over a certain number of stories (40 I think) so the mountain view won't be obstructed. There is a gigantic in-city park (Washington Park), very near downtown that has 30 miles of trails running through dense forest, which contains a Japanese garden, a rose garden (Portland is the Rose City), and an old mansion on a hill with amazing views of the city. The new Chinese garden is certainly not to be missed. The city itself is very beautiful and clean with its brick buildings, front street park, and Willamette River running through downtown. Plus, Portland area is a rainforest, and green is everywhere.

There is a lot to do nearby for the outdoors enthusiast -- skiing is year-round up on Mt Hood on the glacier, and there are trails galore through the Cascade Mountains. The Columbia River Gorge is one of the top spots for windsurfing in the world. A short trip away (20 minutes) is Multomah Falls, which is one of the tallest waterfalls in North America.

Downtown has great shopping in the Pioneer Square area, and there is also some fun eclectic shopping in the Northwest District. The Pearl District is famous for its "First Thursday" celebrations at local art galleries.

But what really makes Portland special are the people. A few words to describe them might be relaxed, friendly, casual, and extremely democratic (to stereotype, of course). I've lived in Seattle and Portland (plus about a million other places), and prefer Portland for this reason.

Nightlife is really hopping on the weekends. If you walk a certain stretch downtown, you'll see lots of mainly young people walking and driving around, having a great time hopping from bar to bar. If you're young and single, here's where you'll want to be. You'll see everything from an active gay nightlife, to clubbers, to casual groups of friends just going to their favorite pub to chat. You might even see me at the Rock Bottom! Also the McMinniman's pubs, especially the Kennedy School, are among my favorite places to grab a beer.

Portland is the place in the Northwest where many people would like to live if they don't already. It's a big city with a small-town atmosphere, and I am in love with the area. And if you come to Portland, you'll fall in love too, I promise.
