SUB VS DUB
A NEVER ENDING BATTLE
Okay, so most of you visiting this site probably already know that subtitles win over dubbed in a heartbeat. Sometimes you have AWFUL English voice actors, and sometimes there are ones that are not so bad. And SOMETIMES, there are those voice actors that are -gasp!-... good! And SOMETIMES, heaven DOESN'T forbid every Japanese voice actor to be fantastic. But we all know that overall, sub is waaay better than dub. But it's still fun to compare the two.

YUKARI- Yukari gets on Hitomi's case about showing up on time for track. Her Japanese voice actor is great, she actually sounds like a 15 year old (even though she may not look like one). But her english voice is deep, and frankly, kinda sounds silly. But it's still good. WINNER: SUB
HITOMI- Hitomi gives Van a piece of her mind after he slays the dragon. Her Japanese voice actor fits the character perfectly. In this clip, she sounds really upset, but her crying sounds very forced. Her English voice, on the other hand, is well done, however, not in this clip. This is a prime example of how sometimes English voice actors have to rush their sentences to fit the mouth. WINNER: SUB
VAN- Here Van explains to Hitomi that she didn't help him defeat the dragon. His Japanese voice actor, in this scene at least, sounds very monotonous, when compared to the English voice actor. The English voice actor actually sounds fed up with her. But is that the way he's supposed to sound? Unfortunately, no. He sounds like he's lashing out at her, when he's just supposed to sound egotistical and conceited. DL the clip and see what I mean. WINNER: SUB
HITOMI- Part 1 of the "screams." haha... Here Hitomi is, well, traumatized after witnessing Balgus' death. She goes into hysterics, screaming "NO!" in the Sub version, while just plain screaming in the English version. But, it's a very good and heart wrenching scream. WINNER: TIE
MERLE: After watching the beam of light take Van up in episode 2, Merle screams his name. But in the Japanese version, there seems to be something missing from it. I don't know why, but every time I hear her scream "Lord Van!" in the English version, I get goose bumps, while I really don't feel anything in the Japanese version. WINNER: DUB
