Alex presents.... Winning my Award!

So, you think you like to apply for my award? I can tell you one thing first. BE PREPARED TO BE DISAPPOINTED! Why? Because of these very very strict reasons!

1. You need to be a Web Master/Mistress to apply!
   • What is a Web Master/Mistress?
     • A web master/mistress by definition is one who knows what he or she is doing. The web master/mistress for the site will know how to cater to their audience.
     • HTML adeptness will be checked by me, and if you should fail the HTML test, your chances are then pretty slim.
     • Your site should have good content, it should have some "originality" to it. I do not take sites that scavenge stuff around the web and not acknowledging the sources very well.
     • It should have something written by yourself, thus it would then be original.
2. You need to show that you have taken into consideration all aspects of your visitors coming to your site.
   • In short, you need to ensure the following.
     • Your site supports lower resolution browsers.
     • Your site has a breakout from frames feature.
     • The pages on your site loads quickly, even on a bad internet connection day. A rough rule of thumb is to make sur that your site graphics do not exceed 50 kb. This does not include banners. So what ever you use, make sure the cumulative sum is just over or about 50 kb.
     • If you have done a frames feature, your frames also must support lower resolution browsers. This is PRETTY damn difficult to cater for, but if you did it, congratulations.
     • Your site must have a no frames feature. Eventhough without frames, it must be user friendly to navigate in!
3. Site needs to be visually attractive.
   • Pretty pics are nice, but please please make sure you use them well, in short:
     • Make sure graphics are not strewn everywhere. I hate that a whole lot!
     • Use animated GIFs sparingly, and only when you need to.
     • Make sure your aminated GIFs are not BIG in size.
     • I have something against sites with scrolling status bars, as do most Community Leaders. If your site has one of those. Sorry, no award!
     • Your site should have a maximum of 2 banners and 2 counters per page.
4. Your site needs to be safe for kids!
   • I do not take the polluting of young innocent minds very kindly either.
   • If your site has swear words. Sorry, no award!
   • If your site has strong opinions, it shall be taken into consideration, racism and bigotry is NOT cool!
5. Your site must be legal.
   • I do not give awards to the following sites:
     • Hacking pages.
     • Pornographic Sites or Sites which have pornographic banners.
     • Sites which could get harangued for the material that they display.
6. If your site is in GeoCities......
   • It needs to abide by ALL GeoCities Guidelines.
     • Every HTML page you display MUST have a link which says, "My site is sponsored by GeoCities." and link it back to GeoCities.
     • You can use the GeoGuide as well to do it as well.
     • LinkExchange's banners also will do the job just fine!
7. If you don't get it the first time, try and try again.
   • I do not shut doors in people's faces and tell them not to come back.
     • If you feel that you have done better since the last time you tried, do apply again and I will give your site another look over.
     • Take this as a challenge. Tell yourself, "If I am not happy with the site, how can I expect my visitors be happy with it?"
     • Persistence with patience can erode the most daunting problems. So keep with it, you will only get better with every step.
   • Do not be disheartened, your work is your pride I understand that, but you have to know that for me, saying, "No" is even harder than saying "YES!"
