"She might not be the fastest thang you ever saw, but she'll be the lastest."

--MechWarrior Steve Hatfield

"Thought I was king of the battlefield until I came across one of those water spiders. Almost walked right into his trap, too. He had hunkered down in a small pond and set up portable jammers around his camp. I was just outside his weapons range when the alarms started. Lucky for me, it's hard to hide a 100-ton 'mech.

"My Atlas had him matched for tonnage, but he had range and no ammo restrictions. I figured my 'mech could survive his first volley as closed to take advantage of my guns. Even sitting in water, all those PPCs would shutdown that 'mech if he was gonna keep using them. Assault 'mechs don't go fast, and he wasn't leaving without losing the pond's cooling effect. I decided to rush him.

"Just as I thought, he fired all four guns at me before I could even get within range. My Altas absorbed the damage with a shudder. I get goin' full throttle.

"His 'mech had disappeared in a cloud of steam. My sensors easily locked on to him; with that much mass and that much heat, he couldn't hide even ducked down into that pond. I opened up with my long range weapons, a fair response to his attack. However, within moments I would have more guns at my disposal.

"Victory was mine. He was overheating and couldn't run away. He couldn't even fire his guns without shutting down. I grabbed the com mic and began to order his surrender.

"Then he moved.

"I don't know what surprised me more: that he left the pond or how fast he did it. And he was still firing! Two, sometimes three, guns at a time.

"Armor was melting off my Atlas in streams, and not only was he getting away from me, he was outflanking me. I started firing what weapons I could before I lost them. My own 'mech was overheating and slowing down. I couldn't turn fast enough to prevent exposing my back to him.

"Sure, there was almost three tons of armor back there, but against PPCs, may as well have been tin foil. Next thing I know I'm falling forward with my ears ringing from the sound of 200 tons of metal colliding. It took a second before I could hear rhe voice coming over the com demanding my surrender.

Damn Dracs."

--Capt. David Katz

The advent of tripple-strength myomers was a godsend to the designers on the Mizu-Gumo 2 project, even more than the new double heat sinks. Trying to mount as much armour as physically possible required a quadrapedal chassis. The quad design had limitted space for autocannon but offered an excellent platform to mount powerful energy weapons. Unfortunately, the frame was ill-suited for mounting the double heat sinks that a large battery of PPCs would require. The extreme heat would cripple the battlemech's mobility, leaving it an easy, albeit well-armoured, target. Tripple-strength myomers gave the Mizu-Gumo superior mobility to most assault 'mechs and 4 ERPPCs gave it the intense heat required to take advantage of the new myomers.
