Personality: Behind his usual cool exterior hide his soft side as he cares a lot for the Oniwabanshuu. He can even risks his life to proof that the Oniwabanshuu is the greatest fighting force. After the Bakumatsu, Aoshi was offered many high-ranking jobs, but he rejected all of them and chose to stay with the Oniwabanshuu because of his committment to the other Oniwabanshuu members.
Background: Oniwabanshuu is where Aoshi grew up and succeeded as the leader of the Oniwabanshuu at a young age of 15. He did not fight much during the Bakumatsu no Douran because the battle end before it reaches the Edo castle which Aoshi was protecting. After the Douran ended, one by one the members of the Oniwabanshuu left the group and headed out to start new lives in the new era. However, only Hyottoko, Beshimi, Hannya, and Shikijou did not leave for all they knew was how to fight. Because of them, Aoshi declined many high profile jobs offered by the new government and stayed with what was left of the Oniwabanshuu. They get hired by Kanryu as bodyguards, but soon realize how corrupt Kanryu is. Then, Megumi's incident occurs which cause Kenshin to fight Aoshi. Kenshin defeats Aoshi, but Kanryu appears with a machinegun ready to kill both of them. The four Oniwabanshuu members succeed in protecting Aoshi, but in return they lose their lives. Aoshi pledges to the four dead members of the Oniwabanshuu that he will obtain the "strongest" title for them by defeating Battousai...
Making of Okashira Shinomori Aoshi: Even when I wrote the paragraph about Beshimi, I was just adding the Oniwabanshuu impromtu to the story, and although I was glad that Aoshi would appear, I was in trouble because I had no idea what he looked. But, as models for the Oniwabanshuu, my beloved Shinsengumi came to mind, and Aoshi was taken from the Shinsengumi's Hijikata Toshizou. But, there are two ways that Hijikata is portrayed in books and novels. One is the way he is represented in "Burning Sword", Hijikata with great combat instincts who fought until death. The Hijikata who killed his gentle feelings, who played the role of a demon and cried within his heart, which buried his human weakness, is the Hijikata that Aoshi is based on. Will Aoshi, like Hijikata, fought until death we will not give away here, but it will not be long until he reappears. Other than this model, I did not have any particular design, but used one from my sketchbook. However as time went on, the image of Hijikata became looser, his hair got longer, more in the modern style. I tried to go back and fix it, but it would have made you laugh so I left it how it was.
