May Our Paths Meet Again

Chapter V: Wolf Pack Island

>Gal'Kelor stood in the doorway in his human form looking very displeased. He glared at Xelloss with a conteptuous look, grinding his teeth together. "I don't recall Zeras saying you could bring your female along, Xelloss."

>"I don't recall her saying I couldn't, Gal'Kelor." Xelloss answered, inclining his head slightly.

>Gal'Kelor wrinkled his nose. "Do you really think she'll let you get away with this?"

>"According to our contract, she can't harm Jaynis." Xelloss looked Gal'Kelor in the eyes, "And neither can you."

>"That won't stop her from harming you." Gal'Kelor smirked. Xelloss only grunted and turned his attention back to his sleeping love. He placed his hand on her forehead and Jaynis sighed happily in her sleep. Gal'Kelor rolled his eyes. "Why do you waste your energy on these foolish emotions? I thought you'd learned your lesson a millenium ago. Or have you forgotten about Ara-Mina?"

>"I have not forgotten." Xelloss said quietly, closing his eyes. After a while, Xelloss stood up and walked over to Gal'Kelor. "You think love is foolish," Xelloss asked, giving him a hard look, "but have you ever been in love?"

>The mazoku scowled at Xelloss. "Why would _I_ ever waste time on that?" Both lads crossed their arms and stared at one another. Finally, Gal'Kelor grinned. "I remember the past also, Xelloss. When you and your maiden were preaching your feeble minded philosophy, trying to reform the mazoku. As I remember," Gal'Kelor's grin widened, "your mission failed miserably. The result being..." he trailed off, allowing for Xelloss to finish. When he did not, Gal'Kelor continued, "the death of your _beloved_ Ara-Mina. Isn't that right?"

>Xelloss said nothing for a long while, he simply stood, glaring at Gal'Kelor. Gal'Kelor started to feel uncomfortable. He struggled to maintain his grin and his confident look. After a while, Gal'Kelor began to sweat. Fearing to lose face, he considered leaving. But before he could excuse himself, Xelloss spoke, "Zeras is calling me. I must go."

>"Yes, so you must."

>Xelloss looked over at Jaynis for a moment, then back at the mazoku. "I trust that you won't bother her," he said.

>Gal'Kelor grinned again. "of course not."

>Xelloss grunted, wrinkling his nose, and disappeared.

>**Jaynis...Jaynis! Do you hear us?** It was the sound of many voices speaking together. Jaynis knew them. The Mazoku spirits, spirits of dead mazoku led by Ara-Mina, Xelloss' first love. They had appeared to Jaynis before, using Ara-Mina's form, always while Xelloss was out. Now, in her sleep, she could hear them again, and she found comfort in knowing they would help her. **Jaynis, what is happening? Where is your priest?**

>Jaynis explained all that had happened as best as she could and she could feel the spirits' concern. It was obvious they were afraid of something. Jaynis inquired what.

>**Nothing good will come of this. We will be watching. When you nee our help, call for us. We will come. In the meantime, you must find the bones.**

**Bones?** Jaynis asked, **What bones?** But there was nothing more.

>Jaynis woke slowly, staring up at the ceiling. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she sat up. A chill ran up her spine and she pulled the blanket up to her neck. A deep voice chuckled. Jaynis gasped and turned to her left. Gal'Kelor was there, sitting in a corner in human form. As a human, he was almost handsome, but Jaynis already knew his true form and that thought disgusted her.

>"Where is Xelloss?" she demanded boldly.

>Gal'Kelor raised an eyebrow at her. "Away." he said. She gave him a cold look and he said, "The priest is with our Mistress. He shall return momentarily. Until then, you are free to roam as you please."

>"Really?"

>The mazoku shrugged. "Sure. You can't leave the island anyway."

>Zelgadiss watched as the island drew closer. It stood dark and ominous against the horizon. He shuddered.

>"I never thought," he said aloud to himself, "I would ever be close enough to see Wolf Pack Island."

>"Well," Silverwing said from behind him, "We're going to get alot closer. So let's get going!"

>"Right," Zel nodded, "but I still don't see why we have to _row_ there!!" He threw open his arms to indicate the small row boat they were sitting in. Silverwing sweatdropped.

>"This is the safest way," he said, "If we fly in, we're certain to get caught and the ship wouldn't come any farther."

>Zelgadiss mumbled something unpleasant under his breath about Silverwing's mother and started rowing again. "So," he said suddenly, "supposing we make it to Wolf Pack Island alive, what do we do then? It's not like either of us has ever been there before."

>Silverwing nodded. "This _is_ true, however, although _I_ have never been to Wolf Pack Island, Xelloss _has_. He once shared that knowledge with me. I now carry most of his memories of that place."

"Well, all I want to do is rescue Jaynis and get the hell out of there," Zelgadiss stated plainly.

>"And what do you think _that_ will accomplish?"

>"What do you mean?"

>"You said yourself that Jaynis went with Xelloss willingly. If you "rescue" her, she will see you as her kidnapper, not her savior." Silverwing said.

>"What?! Why is that?!" Zelgadiss cried in disbelief.

>Because Jaynis loves Xelloss." Silverwing explained, "She went with him willingly because she cannot stand to be apart from him."

>"I don't believe that." Zelgadiss said.

>"Denial is not a virtuous thing, Zelgadiss." Silverwing said.

>"Shut up!!!" Zelgadiss screamed, "I'm getting Jaynis out of there! And to hell with Xelloss, _and_ you if you get in my way!!"

>The two of them now rowed in silence while Silverwing considered Zelgadiss' threat. "Hmm..." he thought, watching Zelgadiss' rage grow. "I wonder...is he _really_ in love with Jaynis?...or is he just as a little boy, only wanting what the other kids have? I suppose there's no way to know..."
