The perfect man

As you can see, this is my shrine to my `other' favorite Fushigi Yuugi character, none other than the emperor of Konan/Kounan, (however you want to spell it) Hotohori! (Or, as I like to call him, Tori! :)
If Nakago is the tragic villain of the series, then Hotohori is most certainly the tragic hero. Alot of people who don't like Hotohori put him down as being snobby and vain, saying he only cares about his looks. The truth is, Hotohori is quite possibly the most noble character in the entire story. Okay, once again: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
All right, now that I have that messy little business out of the way, I can explain what makes Hotohori so wonderful of a character.
1) He truly cared about people. (example, when the gazebo fell on Miaka, he ignored the danger and tried to dig her out himself, despite the fact that his advisors tried to get him to back away)
2) Even though he loved Miaka with all of his heart, when he saw that she truly loved Tamahome, he backed down gracefully because he wanted her to be happy, even at his own expense. (and, since he `was' the emperor, he COULD have ordered her to marry him, but he didn't)
3) He slit his wrist with his own sword when Miaka needed blood. (how many people would do that for someone?)
4) He was the first to suggest to Taiitsu-kun that she use his blood to make Miaka strong enough to go back to her world.
5) Even though he was the ruler of the entire kingdom, when Miaka had the plague, he got down on his knees and begged Mitsukake, a commoner, to come and help her.
6) throughout the entire series, he's always so kind, and caring with Miaka, and only wants her to be safe and happy
7) When Evil Tamahome shows up to kill Miaka, Hotohori risks his life to protect her from him
8) When Miaka tries to drown herself, he again risks his own life to save her. (and does a very good levitation trick too)
9) After he again confesses his love to her, another man might have tried to force himself on her, but Hotohori was gentle, and understanding, and made it clear that he would wait until she was ready. A TRUE gentleman.(I STILL think Miaka was stupid was choosing Tamahome over Him!!)
10) And the most tragic reason, is, during the final confrontation he has with Nakago, when Nakago lets him know that he intends to take over Miaka's world, Hotohori sacrifices his own life trying to protect her, and THAT is the greatest act of love in the world.
stupid, stupid, girl!
Sheesh, what can I say about Miaka's choice? Well, needless to say, had I been in her position, Fushigi Yuugi would have turned out vastly different than it did. Because of course, I would have chosen Hotohori instead of silly old Tamahome! Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not a Tama hater, I actually think he's okay, and he's a nice guy, and he and Miaka were meant for each other, I just mean that he's not my cup of sake. But Hotohori is perfect! He's loving, gentle, kind, intelligent, mature (then again, becoming the ruler of an entire nation at fourteen would tend to do that to a person) he's also brave, noble, and a very good ruler. (and the fact that he happens to be drop-dead gorgeous doesn't hurt matters any ;)
Tori-chan!!
Loki: he looks like a woman!!
Margi: he does NOT!! He's all man!
Loki: then why is his hair so long?
Margi: because he looks sexy with long hair! Look at Nakago! He has long hair, and he's sexy too!
Loki: He's evil.
Margi: He's not evil! he's just misunderstood!
Loki: evil.
Margi: Misunderstood!
Loki: evil.
Margi: Misunderstood!!
Loki: Evil!!
Margi: he's NOT evil!
Loki: Yes he IS, oh yeah, and I forgot, he's sadistic too!
Margi: (starts to say something, but then smirks) Hey Loki....
Loki: Yeah?
Margi: (sweetly) you DO want me to put up a Tasuki shrine, don't you?
Loki: (sweatdrops) Yeah! he's my favorite!
Margi: well, if that's true, stop bad-mouthing my Naka-chan, or Tasuki won't be making an appearance on my page. understand?
Loki: (through gritted teeth) perfectly!
(A little explanation of the above rant, Loquin is `always' saying bad things about the anime guys that I like. She claims Hotohori looks like a woman, I'm sick to like Nakago because he's evil, Tomo is a gay sicko, ect. I'm used to it by now. Oh well, at least I don't love the anime nerds like `she' does ;)
Margi: good! Now, on with my praise of Tori-chan! :)

In the original version of Fushigi Yuugi, Hotohori is voiced by my all-time favorite Japanese voice actor, Koyasu Takehito (swoons) Not only is Koyasu a VERY talented actor and singer, but he's gorgeous too! And he does a perfect job of voicing Hotohori.
SWOON!!
But it also should be noted that, like english Nakago, I ADORE the english voice actor for Hotohori, and I would kiss the feet of whoever could tell me the name of the voice actor who plays him. He does a SUPERB job with the role, and Pioneer made a perfect choice when they cast him for the part.

Okay, update, I've got the Hotohori song page up, it only has the lyrics to "Within my universe" on it as of yet, but I'm going to look for the lyrics to "Legacy" and "Star of Destiny" too. Also, the page isn't going to be just for Tori-chan's songs anymore, I'm going to be fair and put the lyrics to some of the other character's songs as well :)

The song Page!
