Bread Spreads Recipes

JAM GOMASIO
(Sesame salt)
PEANUT BUTTER CHICKPEA SALAD SPREAD
SCRAMBLED CHEESE SPREAD CREAM CHEESE SPREAD AVOCADO SPREAD SEED (NUT) CHEESE SPREAD

 

JAM

2 cup cubed apples, or other type of fruit
3/4 cup sugar
1/8 cup water

variations:
Stir in 1 teasp. vanilla essence or cinnamon powder when jam is finished.

Method:

1. Boil apples, sugar and water.
2. Mash a little to release juice. Stir constantly until jam becomes sticky like syrup.
3. Do not cook until dry or it will be like hard candy when cool.
* Yields 1 cup.

GOMASIO (Sesame salt)

1/2 cup roasted sesame seeds or peanuts
1/8 cup salt

Method:

1. Grind ingredients to powder.
2. Sprinkle over buttered bread.
* Yields 3/4 cup.

PEANUT BUTTER

1 cup raw peanuts
1 teasp. salt
1/4 cup peanut oil
1 Tablesp. honey

Method:

1. Deep-fry peanuts to golden brown.
2. Grind to a powder.
3. Blend with salt, honey and oil.
4. Spread on bread plain or with sliced bananas.
* Yields 1 cup.

CHICKPEA SALAD SPREAD

1 chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
1 cup yogurt
1 Tablesp. lemon Juice
1 Tablesp. oil
1 teasp. salt
2 teasp. sugar
1/2 teasp. hing
1/2 teasp. black pepper
1/2 cup chopped cucumber (optional)

Method:

1. Soak chickpeas 6 hours. Boil until soft. Drain.
2. Blend chickpeas, yogurt, lemon juice and oil. If blender is not available; mash with rolling pin and whisk in lemon juice, oil, and yogurt.
3. Stir in black pepper, salt, sugar and chopped cucumber.
4. Spread on buttered bread.
* Yields 2 cups.

SCRAMBLED CHEESE SPREAD

1 cup SCRAMBLED CHEESE (See Savouries Recipes.)
chopped celery, cucumbers, lettuce or tomatoes.

Method:

1. Stir raw vegetables into the cheese.
2. Spread on bread.
* Yields 1 cup.

CREAM CHEESE SPREAD

1 cup CREAM CHEESE (See Milk Products Recipes.)
1 teasp. salt
1/2 teasp. tumeric
1/4 teasp. black pepper
pinch of hing
lettuce, cucumber, or tomato slices

Method:

1. Whisk all ingredients together.
2. Spread on bread.
3. Add lettuce, sliced cucumbers, or tomatoes on top.
* Yields 1 cup.

AVOCADO SPREAD

1 avocado, medium-sized
1 teasp. salt
1/2 teasp. black pepper
1/2 teasp. hing
1 teasp. sugar
1 teasp. lemon juice
3 Tablesp. cream or yogurt
1 teasp. roasted sesame seeds

Method:

1. Blend all ingredients or beat with fork.
2. Spread on bread.
* Yields 1 cup.

SEED (NUT) CHEESE SPREAD
* Super rich in enzymes

1 cup sunflower, sesame, pumpkin seeds or peeled almonds, cashews or peanuts.
1 cup SPROUTED WHEAT WATER (See Beverages Recipes.)

Method:

1. Soak seeds or nuts in SPROUTED WHEAT WATER.
* If you using sesame or sunflower seeds, soak 4 hours.
* If you using pumpkin seeds, soak 8 hours.
* If you using nuts, soak 12 hours.
2. Fill blender 3/4 full with seeds and nuts. Cover with fresh SPROUTED WHEAT WATER.
3. Blend until smooth. Pour into a fine cotton cloth.
4. Tie cloth into a bag. Hang 5 hours.
5. Scrape cheese from cloth.
6. Serve immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container.
* Yields 1 cup.
