This is a really cool game - I love games based off anime - especially when they are well-done. This game will not really qualify as a shooter to some because it is quite easy... I suck at shooters, but I managed to get through it with a little determination. I believe this game is meant more to be looked at than to offer "hair-ripping" challenge....
GRAPHICS: 10
A great deal of FMV - between each stage - much of it pulled from the movie. There is some new video created for the game which is really cool. The intro alone is breath-taking. In the game itself - it is still a great game to look at - very cool...
GAMEPLAY: 9
The hard part about gameplay is playing in mech form - this may be your "challenge" - The mech form allows you to face and run in both directions and rotate your aim - it is a difficult thing to do, but in certain stages it helps quite a bit.
STORY/LEVELS: 10/8
The main problem with the game is it's lack of challenge - which more many may be a turn-off, the levels themselves are great and very quite a bit. One area - you are flying around Saturn with Minmae (sorry never had to spell her name before) - you have no weapons - interesting idea...
SOUND: 10
The sound is intense... the music, the sound effects, explosions, speech.... WOW!!!
OVERALL: 9.5
It may be a different story for some - you be the judge... if you want challenge, you won't really find it - if you want a cool Macross shooter game - it's right here. It is a very tastefully done piece of "Gaming Art" - it should almost be called an Action RPG Shooter - meant more to "involve" the player emotionally into the fighting rather than let you sit back and time your attacks and moves to defeat a boss....
