Mage: The Ascension presents
Matron's Quest

Intro
On our Earth, we dream of many things. These dreams are shared in the form of TV, movies, books, stories, plays, and sometimes role-playing games. Role-playing games are interactive stories that explore the questions that arise from What if...?
This game takes place in the Whitewolf System (TM and all that) with severe mutilations by the GM (me, KC and all that) as you will soon see. I chose Whitewolf more for the easy game mechanics rather than the universe (as can be exemplified in
Sailor Scouts of the Federation. Mage is the system for Magic Users (Wizards, etc), but this game has been expanded to include all denizens of the Whitewolf Universe.
This game has been running for approx. a year now.

What If...
What if all the dreams that we invision are not fiction at all but snipets and glimpses into other worlds and Universes. This is not a new concept. It has been postulated that all knowledge floats about in bubbles (picture soap bubbles) called "qwiffs" and that when someone comes up with a new discovery or insight, it is because s/he has popped the qwiff (soap bubble >pop!<). (Note: This is a very simplified version of the Qwiff Theory. This is taken from Quantum Mechanics, so all you nonphysics majors who understood the above Qwiff explanation should feel proud of themselves. The qwiffs actually travel in waves, and popping a qwiff actually collapses the wave form... but if I go too off on this tangent youz guyz will probably bop me with a pillow again. Therefore, in my closing physics-tangent-remark-for-no-reason I'd just like to say that humans (and just about everything else) can be written as a waveform. Does that mean *icky* days can be viewed as Destructive Interferance with your wave form? --Kyra) It is already known that everything affects everything else. (Physics Note2: There is no such thing as a "passive observer". If you observe something, that means that it was hit with a form of electro-magnetic radiation {i.e. light, infared, sound waves/sonar} which bounced off the observee to "report" to your sensors {eyes, satillite dish, whatnot}. By hitting the observee with a form of energy, you have affected it by changing its course, giving it more energy/ taking energy away, etc. --K) Therefore, if something happens somewhere in the Universe, then it affects everything in the Universe (however minutely). This is commonly seen in infintesmal shifts in gravity, etc.

So... Suppose that there are multiple Universes out there. Suppose that everything ever dreamed is real...somewhere. (Physics note#3: Solopsism, aka I think therefore it is created, or I observe it, therefore it is. This Quantum idea utalizes the no passive obs..*oof* Ok! Ok! enough with the little tiny marshmellows and the naked pickles .. I get it! no more Physics tangents...*sheesh* --K) When things happen, somewhere, anywhere a Qwiff bubble is created. This bubble floats happily through space-time and between until it encounters a being capable of observing it. The act of observation *pops* the Qwiff and the observer has knowledge of happenings in another world, another Universe, even, rarely, another Realm. Which brings us to Realms. With all these soap bubbles floating around, Time-space can get a wee bit crowded. So to make things a little easier to handle, The Grand High Poobahs of Everything got together with the Dieties and bundled the Universes together in managable Realms. Each Realm contains three to Vast Tracks of Universes and are "sealed" off from the other Realms. To prevent Realms from interfering with each other, and to act as a liason between the Realm and the rest of the Great Whatever, powerful beings called Patriarchs (ma), Matriarchs (fe), and Hetriarchs (other --thx Kris) are selected from amongst The Grand High Poohbahs. All of the Triarchs sit on a council, The Inner Circle, to decide the best way to handle the Realms. At the head of the Circle sits the wisest of the wises, currently his name is Graythor.

Reincarnation...and stuff
Souls (like Universes, in case u were wondering), can only be created by Dieties. The Dieties then request a body (form) from Hades (he has a funky job description in this Universe) and the child is born where (within the diety's Universe(s) the diety decides. The soul lives out its life and when it dies, the body returns to Hades (which explains look-a-likes through generations) and the soul is guided to the Diety that it has chosen to worship or, if none, its creator where it is judged or not by the diety's standards and is sent to the next life. When a soul has gained enough experience, it is admitted to the Outer Circle, where it is born into a Clan/Family/etc of the creating Deity's choosing and given its "real" name. This name is not to be revealed to anyone. Most go by their Clan/Family/etc name. Here, in the Circles, the soul can remember all of its lives, its creation, and should it wish, it can return to "mortal life" at any time on a temporary basis. Time moves very slowly in the Circles compared to the Realms, so an entire lifetime may merely amount to a weeks vacation.
Each of the Clans falls under the Jurisdiction of a Triarch. When the souls go to "mortalness" it will always be within the Realm of their Triarch. By gaining experience, politicking, and other sometimes nasty/devious things, a soul can work their way up to directly working with/for the Triarch, or Even becoming a Triarch when s/he/it moves up in rank or is destroyed. The only exception to this are Realmwalkers. Certain individuals are blessed (?) with the rare gift to understand how the Realms are seperated and can be taught how to walk between them. These individuals work directly for Hades (who is considered neutral). A Realmwalker's dutys include but are not confined to: Being assigned to a Triarch, Diety, other High Muckety-Muck, to guide them from place to place when the need arises; To guide released souls to the proper Diety upon death and return the body to Hades.

Matron's Quest
G.M.: Kyra
System: WhiteWolf
Player Level: Good Role-Players/Any
Number of Players: Yes (No more than 7 at a time)

Altira, the Matriarch of the Terranthian Realm has had her Avatar (soul) shattered in three by the opposing Matriarch: Glenda. Altira now appears in three forms, but never together: Ariel, the kindly olde grandmother, Master of Correspondence and Leader of the three; Tia, a 25ish member of the Akashic Brotherhood and Master of Do, Mind, and Life; and lastly Alura, the 15 year old schoolgirl whose mastery of Matter rivals all.

The Characters have been approached by one of the three, sent on a mission to retrieve items of magical import to seperate and stablize the shattered avatar. Groups all over the Realm work towards this one goal, each with their own list of artifacts: The Nine Spheres, The Runes of Binding, the Runes of Rending, and many more. Soon, The last of the ingrediants will be gathered. But what further plans does Altira have for the people who have helped her?

Recently, it was revealed that Graythor would be soon Ascending, moving to the next stage, a place where few souls return, save to fix things that have gone terribly wrong. With his Ascension close at hand, the Triarchs are scrambling to be the next in line for Head of the Council. It was in this frenzy that Glenda saw her chance to rid herself of her long time adversary. Cannibilizing 3 Universes by sucking all the Prime (energy) from them, she ruthelessly attack Altira. The result was not all Glenda had hoped for though. Calling on an ancient art, thought long forgotten, Altira accepted the the Rending of her Avatar, over certain death, or the Cannabilization of her own Universes.

At the Reckoning (LARP, MagiKon'98), the PC's were asked, should Altira move up, what position would they vie for?

But is that all Altira wants? Why must she seperate to go for Head of Council? The Circle would accept the Trinity. What plans does she truly have in store for the PC's? Meanwhile, Glenda has been showing an annoying habit of turning up in other peoples' Realms. And Altira can do minor Realmwalking? How can this be when all Realmwalking talents, regardless of degree, are beholden to Hades?
