My Take :
Because Asuka, just like all the other characters in Evangelion, was a very realistic and well described
character, you can see in the show that Miyamura put in great effort and skill to play this character, from Asuka's proud, booming voice early in the series to the uncompassionate and pitiful voice when Asuka fell apart. After her amazing performance in Evangelion, she has since become one of the most popular and well loved seiyuu in Japan, appearing in many anime, games and radio talk shows.
