Himura Kenshin is our main character of the series... His fighting technique depends a great deal on "reading" an opponent - their emotional state as well as stance. His sword technique is called Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, it is a style which attacks swiftly and can kill many. His real name is Shinta, he was originally intended to be a servant - but an attack by bandits left him an only survivor. He was picked up by Hiko Seijuuro and was taught his sword fighting ability.
Kenshin never finished his training. At the age of 14, he left to become a part of the Ishin Shishi... fighting to westernize the Japanese Govt. It is during this time that he forms his title as Hitokiri Battosai. After the revolution, little is known about Kenshin other than he gave up killing and became a wanderer. He still holds strongly toward protecting others and vows to make amends for all the killing he had done. Nearly 10 years later, he wanders into Tokyo - this is where our story begins...
Generally he is very kind to others, you may not even think that this could have been a deadly killer. He tries very hard not to give into the Bloodlust of battle - reverting back to Hitokiri. He also cares a great deal for keeping others at a distance - so as not to involve them; this often times leaves a situation where getting too close to someone may get them killed. When a challenge comes, he often eludes those around him to keep them away. There is obviously fondness for Kaoru in Kenshin, but he does not openly admit it - possibly in fear of losing her if she is too close to him.
