This is a good addition to an anime collection. It has many "TENCHI" aspects to it, but holds it's own to make a good show.
One day, a young man shows up at an airbase for his new assignment - to the 801 T.T.S. Airbat division of the Japanese Airforce. They are basically just test pilots - the section is set-up for show and has no real value in the eyes of the Airbase. The 801 concist of 4 female pilots, headed by a easy-going male leader, a bat as a mascot, and a dim-witted guard dog. The story quickly fits a Tenchi-type show with the two main female pilots taking a liking to our male machanic. The struggle between them over his affections is where it ends though. It is a very good show - I was amazed... Most of the story revolves around how the Airforce brass want to shut them down - it is a problem since the two main pilots don't really like each other - kinda like Ayeka and Ryoko, the other two pilots - one being a little crybaby, and the other fits a NABIKI (Ranma 1/2) sort of personality. She involves herself as respectable, but always making some kind of profit off betting. I am amazed that there are no real fanpages for this show. I know it came out at a time when so many anime were flooding into the U.S. - this one got overlooked for the price tag. You can find 50 pages devoted to really bad shows but nothing more than review pages for this... :( HEY!!! BUY THIS SHOW!!! ADVision doesn't put them in hard case - high quality tapes anymore - this one will be a collector's item... at very least rent it - it is hard to come by good U.S. release anime anymore... you'll most likely be pleased by this one.
Check it out - lots of comedy, good solid characters, great art, some serious moments... I like it.
