As I have stated, Heroic Trio was one of the first movies I saw of this type... it is still a favorite of mine and here are some quick reviews for it and it's sequel The Executioners.
THE HEROIC TRIO
Rating: 10
I enjoyed this movie very much, at first I really didn't expect to - I thought, "What could a trio of female crime fighters offer for a movie???" A plot??? Yes, the Heroic Trio has a pretty cool one. You have a police chief who is having trouble with kidnapped infant boys... his wife (Anita Mui) happens to be trained from youth by her father to fight the forces of evil... she had a sister (Michelle Yeoh), but she failed to meet the expectations so she left on her own to join the underground ruled by an evil emperor who wishes to enslave the outer world, but wishes to gain control of an invisi-cloak - not yet complete, it cannot work in daylight. The emperor is stealing babies to find a successor... on the other end is a bounty hunter (Maggie Cheung), who is hired to find a baby who was stolen. Eventually all three come together in a battle to stop the Emperor... Very well done movie.
EXECUTIONERS
Rating: 6
This is an alright movie in itself, plenty of action... it does suffer though. It takes place after a nuclear attack - the country (world?) is falling apart - water is rare and extremely valuable... I won't try go too far with detail, the plot is pretty decent - what hurts is the writing. Although the story is good, the characters in general are good, but it seemed the story didn't unfold too well - the main enemy was not developed and did not seem frightening or powerful - the way he was dubbed was awful. The characters did not mourn deaths very long - the times were hard, but it seemed a bit lost. The movie kept my attention and I liked it in general - one thing done to get you into the movie was to kill characters important to the story... and Maggie Cheung showed her legs a lot ^_^... it seemed that the movie should have been longer to help develope what was going on - or that it needed to be more efficient with it's time. Certain moments should have had more development to them. The Trio are asked to help the govt. to find clean water and protect the President - to uncover the plots within to destroy public faith - the masked man actually controls the water - saying it is "refined, using a new method he invented", but he actually just controls the source. Setups and mayhem are abundent and on top of that - "wonder woman" has a child and promised not to fight anymore... if you want to see more of the trio (Maggie Cheung's legs.... drool), this will help, the trio themselves were well written and it is an o.k. movie, but not as cool as the first.
