PUYO PUYO 4

Let's start by saying I love this game - and there is little or nothing said about it on the internet at all....

You may remember this game as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - it was the FIRST, then Kirby's Avalanche or something copied it next... whether Robotnik's is a copy, or the first I don't know - I am sure that it was a copy though as well. This is a totally cool puzzle game - if you played Mean Bean Machine, the yellow guy in the center of the lower row of pics may look familiar - he was the little dancing "Bean Dude" who stood in the center by the scores and acted funny.... he has a major role in this game as he and the first girl in the upper row are friends and when they go to watch a circus group perform, he is made to disappear in a majic act - only to not return, you then play through a story mode trying to find him...

Pictures cannot do it justice... the game may look like the usual puzzle game, but it has been done very well for the DREAMCAST. There are plenty of visual effects to let you know this isn't a SNES game - it may even be too much for PSX (RAM limit). It is very visually pleasing. The music is as catchy as can be and sure to get you humming it at work or school.

There are alot of characters to choose from, I wanted to show pics of them all, but it was too much. Each has a special attack they can unleash to help them when they are in trouble - ranging from random puyo being popped - to flipping the bin upside-down and popping all the clear ones at the same time.

It can support 4 player mode, but 2 player is best... offering to see the anime characters on the screen - the menu is in japanese so there is some trouble knowing what does what. Trial and error works o.k., but there are many options that I still have not found - one that is said to be in it is to change the size of the "puyo" or beans - making it possible to fit more or fewer in the bins.

It is very easy to lose track of time with this game and is a very fun one for anyone to play... easier to handle than Super Puzzle Fighter.

As far as I am concerned it is worth a straight 10 all the way... the only problem I had with it was the lack of power certain characters had with their specials (I guess you have to be a pro to use them effectively). All I can say is if you want a great puzzle game on the DREAMCAST - GET THIS GAME!!!!!
