What's the main reason for a human being to build an Internet page? To show himself off, declare a certain statements or attempt to gain a new friends or job opportunities - it's something like a wall poster or an extended name card.
With this, I'm not an exception. Being a rookie netrunner, I begun to understand a computer as smth more than silenced typewriter only about a year ago, and now is still in the process of exploring new resources.
Unfortunately, my abilities to compose in English are far from writing in my native language. All long-cherished phrases become short and stomping, when it comes to writing, and I'm almost cursing myself for inability to express my feelings with the same degree of easiness as I am able to do it in Russian. As such, this part of the page is merely a brief summary, and the major part of this page is written in Russian.
Despite this, let me introduce myself. Born November 1st, 1968 in Moscow, single, graduated from the Institute of Afro-Asian Studies in 1992 with major in Korean History. In 1990-1991 I was successful to be among the first Russian exchange students in Seoul (Yonsei Univ.) The particular field of my study is the development of the military tradition in Medieval Korea, and in 1997 I finally got my Ph.D. (The English summary of this paper and brief CV are presented below.
However, it has the drawback. Being the only specialist in this field at least in Russia, meant total absence of demand, particularly considering the state of academic sciences in Russia now. So recently I've started a new step by pursuing the career of a senior research fellow in the Institute of the Far Eastern Studies (Russian Academy of sciences), mastering the contemporary geopolitical stratagems over the Korean Peninsula. Before I got this one, I had to change a # of jobs, visited Korea a couple of times as interpreter, and even acted as a High school history teacher.
Although my Korean is still worse than my English, I do like this country and have no feeling of being a stranger in the alien country, visiting it a couple of times. My deep interest towards Korean History and Culture is closer to the hobby than to the formal job one often does disinterested.
I also have a number of other hobbies, also partially extended from my major. Prime is martial arts (particularly swordplay), and martial arts history. My works in Russian on this field evolved in two books (“The historical survey or weapons ” and “The unknown East - martial arts of Korea, India and South-East Asia”) and about twenty articles. The style I've been practicing is Ch'onmyo - a rather interesting form of traditional Korean fencing. Although considering myself an amateur swordsman, with the absence of real masters I had got a certain reputation and now conducting a training sessions for my friends for about 5 years.
My another hobby is Role-playing games, both field and table - in latter case I prefer AD&D. I have been considered a competent and rather well-known Dungeon Master, with a lot of self-researched works. Actually, I'm working with AD&D not only as leisure tool, but as useful method of developing creativity, promoting Interest to historical sciences and executing the psychological correction of player's personality.
For those who would probably hear about Makkawity - that's another side of me...
My private life - I like camping, good tea (preferring it to alcohol), folk and doom (Amorphis, Lake of tears, Candlemoss and the like) music, cats and.... Other preferences will be delivered upon a personal contact.
