Karuko threw Salad into the arena, just as Victreebel came out.
"OK, Salad! Wrap it now!"
Luckily, the Weepinbell was fast enough to grab the Victreebel before it attacked. After a while, Salad's attack was finished.
"Victreebel! Quickly! Razor Leaf!"
"Salad! Acid!"
Both attacks hit at the same time, causing a double KO.
"OK then, GO Tangela!"
"In you go, Flamer!"
Karuko's Growlithe jumped out and squared off versus Erika's Tangela.
"OK, Flamer! Ember it!"
"Tangela! Bind now!"
Erika's Tangela responded quickly and bound Flamer...
"Try to Ember the cords off, Flamer!"
It gladly replied and the Tangela's vines were burnt off without having done much damage.
"Now hurry Flamer! Ember before she gets you again!"
Flamer used Ember, and very soon, Tangela was a charred tumbleweed.
"Tangela return! Now it's time for Vileplume!"
Vileplume took the place of the blackened and somewhat carbonized Tangela.
"OK, Flamer! Same thing! EMBER!"
"Vileplume! Sleep Powder!"
Flamer fell asleep before he could use his attack.
"Wake Up Flamer!"
Flamer slept soundly...
"Vileplume! Mega Drain!!!"
Flamer fainted.
"Urgh! A Poke Flute would have been useful..."
"A Poke Flute? Could have asked me..." said Cajava from the stands.
"What? You have one?"
"No, but I could have answered your question correctly if I lied about the location of one..."
"Figures she probably wouldn't have one... Not many people do," Karuko whispered to herself.
"OK, GO VOLCANO!" yelled Karuko.
Volcano the Vulpix leaped from near Karuko's feet where she was napping into the arena.
"Hah! A Vulpix? I'll defeat this one the way I defeated the other. SLEEP POWDER!"
"Quick Volcano! Confuse Ray!"
"Vulpix!" said Volcano as the ray of confusion hit Vileplume before it had attacked. Vileplume, now confused, hit itself instead of using Sleep Powder.
"Now finish it with a Flame-thrower!"
Volcano complied, and all that was left of Vileplume was a charred, blackened, incongruous blob that slightly resembled a Vileplume in shape.
"You have rightly defeated me. What is your name?"
"Karuko."
"OK, then. Karuko, you have rightfully earned this Rainbow Badge. And as a reward for your extraordinarily good battle skills, I give you this TM 21 machine. It teaches Mega Drain..."
"Thank you."
"You are welcome."
"Come on, Cajava. My work here is done..."
"OK," said Cajava. "That was a good match! You should try to become a Pokemon master!"
"Maybe..."

"So, where to next?" asked Cajava.
Karuko wasn't too sure what to say. "Ummmm, I have no idea. Maybe Vermilion or Lavender."
"Ummmm, how about Saffron? There's a Gym there, if you think you're good enough."
"You're on! And I bet I can beat you to the Gym!" karuko dashed off, Cajava close behind.
That night....
"I don't believe it! We've been running all day, and we're not even halfway to Saffron! I could have sworn the distance was shorter when I came to Celadon," Karuko whined.
"Maybe we should've turned left at the fork and right at that Snorlax..." Cajava was trying to make sense out of the map she had bought from some guy named Hombre. "I think I was gypped! This map looks like a 3-year-old drew it!"
"Well, it's getting dark, we might as well find a place to sleep." The two girls eventually saw a comfortable place under a tree, and fell asleep.
The next morning...
The sun shone down, traveling across Cajava's face. Her eyes blinked open. She looked to her side and saw Karuko still napping on her side of the tree. Then Cajava looked in front of her...
...and saw a strange red-orange striped snake napping on her belly. Cajava's eyes shrank.
"AAAAHHHH!!!!" she screamed. Karuko leapt in surprise and smacked her head into a limb.
"What's.... ack!" The Ekans was awake, and not too happy at that. While still on Cajava's belly, it hissed, bobbing its head side to side. Karuko stepped back and sent Volcano to the other side of the snake. Volcano crept up and prepared to launch a Flamethrower. Suddenly the Ekans leaped and planted a Poison Sting into the Vulpix. Volcano fell to the ground, shivering.
"Volcano! Return!" Karuko was ready to send out another pokémon, but Cajava beat her to it.
"I don't like rude awakenings, so Sphere! Teach this puny snake a lesson with your Dig attack!" Sphere leaped up and burrowed into the ground. The Ekans started to stand still, appearing to wait for something. Finally, it leaped up to the tree just as Sphere launched out of the ground. Spher landed, then was snagged into a Wrap attack. "Sphere! try to Scratch!" Sphere wriggled around, and finally got one arm free. As soon as he did, the Ekans moved its tail and used it to tickle Sphere! The Sandshrew started to laugh its head off, and soon was released, where Cajava returned it. "Hmmmmph. Pokéball, go!" to her surprise the Ekans did nothing.
"Huh? It puts up a mean fight, then lets itself get captured? I don't get it." She brought out both the snake and Blob. The two Pokémon started to talk, then finally Blob told Cajava the reason. Cajava was immediately embarrased.
"Well?" asked Karuko.
"Errr, this Ekans is in love with me, so it decided to let itself be captured. I don't know what to say."
Karuko raised one eyebrow. "Well, tell it to forget about that, Pokémon-human love affairs don't work, I think."
"Well, in any case, I'll name this Ekans Kaa. And I think I'll let it ride on my shoulder." Kaa looked very happy, and slithered up Cjava's body, finally resting on her shoulder. Cajava giggled, then the two continued on their journey.
