It's Like Knowing You're In A Fog...

John carefully walked the streets of Lavender. He knew the Black Fog was nearby, but where was it? Ariel lifted her nose up and sniffed.

"Vaporeon!"

"Where is it, Ariel? Yikes!" John leaped back just in time to avoid the Fog's vicious slash. John flipped back and unsheathed his sword.

"Haunter haunter..." <Ohhh, like I'm scared of that little blade of yours>

"Black Fog... I defeated you once, I will do it again."

"Haunter haunter haunt haw." <That was a fluke. it won't be so easy this time.>

"Enough talk. Hiyaaah!" John leaped into the air, sword over his head, but the Black Fog flew under him and grabbed his feet. The Haunter swung John face first into the ground. "Oof!" John leaped back up and swung, slashing his nemesis right across the chest.

"Haunt!" <Ouch!> Unfortunately, the gash immediately healed. John was not surprised.

"Mr. Fuji said you were stronger. No matter, another few slashes should finish you off."

John swung and hit...nothing! The Black Fog appeared behind him and tapped on his shoulder. John turned around and wham! He flew backward into a pile of trash cans. John gained another wind and started slashing like crazy. The Haunter was faster then last time, and avoided almost all of them. Then, with a swipe of his claws, tore a hole in John's shirt. "Damn you!" John slashed, and was suddenly disarmed as the Fog blocked it and swung his arm back. The sword was still stuck in its arm, and was torn from his grasp.

"Haw haw haw!" <Give it up, rat. You can't win!>

"Says you." John replied as he instinctively aimed a punch. Of course, you can't punch a ghost, and as John tried to recover, the Black Fog grabbed his arms and started to swing him around in circles. Faster and faster the two twirled, until the Fog let go.John was launched and smashed into an old house. He went through each wall, until exiting the other side and skidding across the ground. As if to create a supreme sense of irony, the building collapsed.

"Haw haunter haunter." <Talk about bringing down the house>

John slowly got up, and the Fog swept in, clobbering him with punches and claw swipes. Suddenly, its bottom half froze. The Black Fog willed the ice away and turned around to see Ariel, growling. The Black Fog laughed, then proceeded to put her to sleep with Hypnosis. He turned back to John and grabbed him by the collar. The Fog pulled its prey off the ground and laughed.

"It's been a good life," said John. Finally, darkness overcame him.

For a few seconds, anyway.

Just as he was about to lose conciousness, a great wind swept up out of nowhere, violently lifting him from the Fog's embrace. His vision was dim, but he thought he glanced a Pidgeotto when he left the Fog - but only for an instant; the wind forced him up, up, ever upwards...

"Gotcha!"

Strong arms wrapped around him, quickly slowling him down and lowering him to a firm surface. It must have been some sort of roof, since John had not felt himself fall much after rising, but he lacked the energy to even look around.

"Easy now, we'll take care of you. Aerie! Your turn!"

A face passed through his line of sight...human? Chansey? It was gone too fast to tell. He was still pondering this when light overcame him.

Back at street level, the Black Fog was, to say the least, ticked off. That Vaporeon was gone, but there was a bird flapping its wings at where it had been. "Haw HAUNTER!" <No one robs me of my prey!>

In a blink, the Pidgeotto was replaced with a Hypno. #We hear about you. Murderer. Soul stealer. We understand hunger...but there *OTHER* ways feed. This not acceptable!#

"Ha ha ha."

#Laugh if want. This form from one name Ghostbuster, for reason.# This particular Hypno did not have the spoon typical of its kind, instead wearing a wierd backpack connected to a tuning fork. A very...shiny...fork...

The Fog quickly shook it off. "HAW! Haunter haw haw." <Nice try! Let's see if you can stand Hypnosis back at you.>

#Who say Mimic try Hypnosis?# With a sharp rap against the ground, the fork began emitting sounds, which seemed to coalesce into a beam...

Even through the reality distortions of a Psybeam, the Black Fog struggled to advance on Mimic...just before a watery comet, with a core named Ariel, came zooming down right on target from where Mimic had launched her (with an attack to wake her up) to gather her attack.

In the shadows, a second Fog was rolling away, unnoticed by all. #This form could have...uses...# Doppler almost laughed to himself, but concentrated on getting away without having to transform, in order to better try out his new prize.

Ariel was confused. Who were these people that appeared to save John? One of them she recognized as a Ditto. But what was that strange fork the Hypno/Ditto is using? Ariel shook her head to clear it up and then re-entered the battle.

The Black Fog was in immense pain. It had never felt a Psybeam as strong as this one. In its pain it faced Mimic and fired a Night Shade attack, causing the Hypno to fall backwards. The Black Fog took this chance to start a getaway.

"I don't think so, Fog. Alakazam, Psychic." Sabrina's Psychic Pokémon released the beam, taking advantage of the Fog's poison Type to keep it pinned down. Ariel ran up and started firing Ice Beams, knowing they were her best weapon against the Fog. Mimic recovered from the attack and launched the beam again. The Fog was blasted from three different sources and slowly lost its power.

"Mr. Fuji, now!" shouted Sabrina. Mr. Fuji started a prayer, which caused a small portal to appear. "Now, Fog, to the Netherworld and never return!" The portal sucked the Black Fog in and then disappeared. The Black Fog was gone forever. With the danger gone, Ariel jumped on some trash cans and hopped up to the roof, where she saw James from Team Rocket! She started growling.

"Easy, Vaporeon. I mean you no harm. Here, smell." Seth held out his hand, and Ariel cautiosly took a whiff. Strange, 'James' smelled like a Ditto. Ariel calmed down, then called the others. Sabrina floated up to the roof and took a look at John.

"He doesn't have much time left, we must get John to the hospital." Seth picked up John and followed Sabrina to the hospital.

Time passes...

John slowly woke up and saw two people and a Pokémon he didn't know. "Great. I'm with strangers, and I look like something the Meowth dragged in," he thought. His vision got better, and he recognized on of the three. "James!" John leaped out of bed and grabbed his sword, completely forgetting it can't harm humans. "Back off, Rockagh!" John fell to his knees. Aerie ran over and helped him up.

"Easy, John. This is not James of TR. He only looks like him." Seeing Ariel calmly sitting next to the male, John sat down and said, "Well, if you are not James, then who are you?"

re: by Adrian Tymes

"His name is Seth." Sabrina crossed her arms, glaring at him out of the corner of her eye. "And he is welcome to leave. *With* his trash."

A wave of tension washed across the room. Although Sabrina was not actually using her powers at this time, it seemed as if she was sending minor telekinetic chills towards Seth, and doing her best to ignore Aerie. Seth, in turn, looked at Mimic with an expression of...pain? annoyance? betrayal?...from which Mimic shrank, a bit sheepish. Only Aerie was actually tending to John, gently but firmly removing his sword and guiding him back into bed.

Even John could feel the bad vibes. "What's going on?"

"You know these people?" Mr. Fuji sized up Aerie and Seth, trying and utterly failing to remember them.

"Mimic think best not go there. Please?"

Sabrina hmphed. "If Seth and Mimic will not take *it* away, then I'm leaving." She bowed to Mr. Fuji, John, and even Ariel. "Another time, my friends." And walked out, saving the slightly-less-dramatic-exit teleport until she was out of eyesight.

Mr. Fuji blinked. Sabrina never *walked* out, without good reason.

"What was that all about?"

"Call it bad blood."

Aerie, at least, was still in good enough spirits to crack a smile at Mimic's attempted jest, even if it was at her expense...or would have been, had the others gotten it.

"If you say so." Mr. Fuji extended a hand. "Anyway, thanks for helping us out, all of you."

"Is no problem." Mimic reformed himself into a glove on that hand, then shook.

"Umm...right. Say, it's almost dinner time. If you'll stay around for a bit, I'll cook up some extra portions for you. It's the least I can do to say 'thanks'."

"Mimic help cook?"

"If you want, sure. Anyone else?"

Seth sat down on the foot of John's bed, keeping his side towards Mimic. "Not me. Mimic's going to be handling knives, I don't want to find one in my back...again."

"SETH!" Aerie was standing over her partner in an instant, disapproval with large on her face. She glanced at Mr. Fuji and Mimic. "You two go on. We need to have a little...chat."

Mr. Fuji shook his head. "At least take it to another room." He pointed at John, who had fallen back into unconsciousness. "He'll be up and about by the time dinner's ready, but he needs his rest. He's had a rough day."

"Right," Aerie nodded. "C'mon Seth...." She took Seth's hand and hauled him to his feet. Seth allowed himself to be dragged out the door and down the hallway. He wrinkled his nose at the sterile hospital smell. Then Aerie spotted an empty room and pushed him inside, closing the door behind them.

Seth fell heavily onto a hospital bed with a metal creaking noise. From under the blue hair that hung in his face, he looked up at Aerie with a pout. "What did I do now?"

Aerie crossed her arms. "Just what's gotten into you? Mimic's done so much to help us, and now you're on his case all the time!"

"Well..."

"Maybe you weren't saying much, but I can feel what going on in there, and Goddish knows Mimic does as well. He doesn't deserve that. Why, Seth, why?"

Seth sighed and turned his attention of his reflection in a wall mirror. He looked exhausted. "Mimic broke my trust.....I guess I'm still feeling some sting from that. I'm sorry Aerie."

"Hmph, I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."

Seth nodded. He fell onto his back and rolled on the bed with his back to Aerie. He curled up and mumbled.

"What?"

"Summer's almost over."

"Yeah. So?" Aerie sat softly on the side of the bed.

"I just got to thinking. There's someplace I want you to see.."

Aerie blinked. "What place?"

"A place called Maiden's Peak. Not too far from here if I remember correctly. They have a great festival every year around this time. I went there as a kid once. I'd like to take you to see it."

"Hmph. Maybe if you're good." She grinned and gave his shoulder a playful squeeze. "Now let's go see what Mimic and the others are doing."

"Aww.....but I'm tired. And since when do Ditto cook? We could all end up with food poisoning..." He moaned and pulled a pillow over his head.

"Oh quit it Seth," Aerie rolled her eyes. "Let's go now."

"I toldja, I'm tired." Seth closed his eyes and turned into a Vulpix, curled up on the pillow. Aerie shook her head and scooped him up. She left the hospital a few minutes later, carrying Seth in her arms. From the shadows, feline eyes watched them leave, then followed close behind.

Shortly thereafter...

"Din-nah is serv-ed." Mimic, in his best butler imitation, gracefully carried a platter of food to John's bedside. Noting that the roughed-up trainer was just stirring, he set off to look for his companions, after shooting a warning look at Ariel that seemed to say, "Touch it, and I'll *know*." Not wanting to test this, Ariel shrunk back from where she had been about to dig in to John's food, restraining herself to the Pokechow on one corner of the tray.

Meanwhile, Slasher played amongst the Pokenip. A thought briefly crossed his mind, concern for someone he was supposed to be looking over...but such trivial concerns of the physical world quickly diminished in comparison to some really interesting purple...

Simultaneously, almost a mile away and going further, Seth reached down to scratch a familiar Persian head, having never doubted that, when his friend had been asked to bathe or stay out of the hospital wing, he would just stick around the edges and find Seth when he came out.

re: by syke6888 L

John's eyes finally opened. He sat up and looked around. The small group.. Seth and his friends were gone, and John could smell rice balls from his point. "I'll never understand how some people mistake them for donuts," he thought to himself. Looking around, he saw the origin of the smell. Someone had left a couple near his bed. "Hospital food..." he muttered. Nevertheless, he took one of the balls and slowly chewed. It hurt to do so, but he was hungry and fought his way through every bite. Once he was finished, he reached for a nearby mirror and looked in it.

"The Black Fog really did a number on me," John said out loud. His left eye was blackened, a small cut was on his left cheek, his other cheek was bruised, and strange enough, a cut formed a V between his eyes, so he looked like he was mad at something. John got out of bed and noticed he had a small sprain. Not one that requires crutches, but enough to impair walking. "Ouch. My back still hurts from that flight through the house." John decided he'll never take another flght from Pokémon Air again. It hurts too much. A doctor came into the room.

"John, I see you're feeling better."

"Really? You could have fooled me. Every bone in my body aches. I won't win any prizes for beauty. And I can't even eat without forcing myself through each bite. You doctors exaggerate everything."

"Sigh, Patients like this make me wish I'd become a lawyer," the doctor thought, then left.

As John looked around, he noticed Ariel was missing. Her Pokéball was still on John's belt, but she wasn't in it. "Where could she have gone?" John thought.

Outside, the feline eyes followed Seth and Aerie to as they walked through Lavender. They didn't notice it until they heard a loud "Persain!" Aerie whirled around, almost dropping Seth and was surprised when Slasher leaped out of the alley, a Vaporeon attached to its tail. Slasher shook Ariel off, then the two circled each other, growling all the time. "Slasher! Ariel! Calm down!" cried Aerie, and when that didn't work, Seth released a Flamethrower, catching the two off guard. Ariel and Slasher fell to the grund, blackened. "Perssss..." said Slasher.

"Don't give me that, Slasher! You shouldn't have followed us so mysteriously. It made you look like a threat to Ariel." Slasher got up and followed Seth and Aerie, his head drooped down and a sad look on his eyes. Ariel got up as well, frosted Slasher's tail with an Ice Beam, then went back to the hospital to see how her trainer was doing.
