Small Talk

by: Shining Tiger

Tyger merely shook his head at John, both answering his question and getting rid of the stars he was seeing. "Nah, I'm more of a doctor myself. I hate seeing pokémon abused or neglected. Aussie here," Tyger bends down to pat the Cubone's head, "used to belong to a trainer who beat him, and then abandoned him. You say you're a detective? I just *might* be interested in that line of work. What's this about amnesia and brainwashing though?...kinda reminds me of what my parents told me about my brother, though. He's in Team Rocket, and obsessed with collecting evey type out there." Tyger pauses to take a breath, then holds Splash's pokéball, being careful not to open it.

"I guess Splash finally evolved, though. I'm hoping someday Aussie will too. He should've already, but the treatment his former trainer gave him...well..."

John walked over to Aussie, who dashed and hid behind Tyger's leg. John looked thoughful for a minute, then took out some Pokéchow and laid it down near his feet. Aussie, being a Pokémon, couldn't resist the food and walked over, then began chewing on it. John looked over the Cubone.

"To answer your question, from what my friends tell me, a freak accident with a raticate put me under amnesia. i had no idea who I was, and became a member of Team Rocket. Somewhere in the middle of it all, i braiunwashed pipian, a friend of mine, and we boith became PODA's worst nightmare. the entire mess continued through Celadon to the Indigo Plateau, and climaxed at the Laramie Ranch in Fuschia, where all memory was restored."

Tyger let this sink in, amazed at how some people's lives went on. John finished looking over Aussie. the Cubone looked very happy as he dug in the chow. "Hmmm. Man, he shows lots of scars on the top of his skullcap. Does he happen to know Headbutt?"

"Well, yes. Aussie does know it."

"Hmm. Strange. Anyways, what Aussie needs is a boost of confidence and lots of encouragement. How about a battle against my Marowak, Malice?"

Tyger was aghast. "What do you mean? Aussie dosn't stand a chance against a Marowak."

"Well, Malice is not the smartest marowak ever, and he has been known to make errors when the opposition is smaller than he, so Aussie could stand a chance. But believe me, a victory against someone bigger than Aussie is a good way to boost confidence." John took out his transporter and sent his Tauros back to the Ranch, then brought out Malice.

"Marowak!" the Pokémon cried out, and the sound sent Aussie charging into Tyger's satchel, which started shaking crazily. John sweatdropped.

"Ooops. My bad. Maybe once Aussie gets over this, the battle can begin. That is, if you're up to it?"

Tyger bent down to comfort his frightened Cubone. "I don't think he's quite up to that yet. Maybe some other time, when I've had a chance to help him out a little...Team Rocket got you for awhile, eh? As far as I know, my brother's still working with them. I'll make him come home and explain to Mom and Dad someday, too. Drop me a line if you ever get the business started again, though. I'd love to help out."

"Believe me, with what's happened the last few weeks, we need all the help we can get, but right I have nothing else to do. Too bad for the battle, I'm sure Malice would have let him win..."

John got a Bonemerang to the face for his words. "Or maybe not. Malice, return!" Malice dissolved into red energy and headed into the ball. A sudden "Por!" got the attention of the two. They turned in unison and saw a strange sight indeed. It was a Vaporeon swimming wildly through the pool, its tail caught in a death grip by a Clefairy. Even stranger, Ariel was going at such a speed, Mystery was water skiiing and enjoying every minute. That is, until Ariel stopped swimming. Mystery looked doen, and fell underwater. John noticed a small trail of bubbles traverse through the water, then Mystery popped out, sputtering as it held onto the side of the pool.

"Serves you right, Mystery," was all Tyger said on the subject.

John looked towards Tyger. "Say, Tyger, do you happen to be traveling towards Lavendar next? I promised Mr. Fuji I'd go over there and do some chores for him, and it would be nice to have someone to talk to on the trip."

Tyger calls Mystery and Aussie back to their pokéballs.

"I'm not going anywhere in particular. Lavender sounds like a good place to go next...maybe learning to face Ghost pokémon will help out Aussie...not to mention seeing his original home again. I have to do a few things before leaving Cerulean, but I'll catch up with you on the road."
