ALLAH'S NAMES, MEANING & ATTRIBUTES

The Holy Qur'an enjoins on us to recite the Names of Allah in the following verses: "Allah's are the Excellent Names, therefore invoke Him therewith (Quran 7:180)". "Say: Call upon Allah, or call upon Rahman: by whatever name ye call upon Him, (it is well): for to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names, (Quran 17:110)". He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, and the Bestower of Forms (or Colors). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names, whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might. The wise (Quran 59:24). "Allah! There is no god but He. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names (Quran 20:8)". We all praise Allah and solicit His blessings for His kind Messenger Muhammad for the True knowledge of Allah and His Attributes have come to us through him. He taught us that Allah is the only One God, Who has ninety-nine attributive names. "Allah" is a proper noun par excellence in a consolidated form meaning "God". Plural cannot be formed out of it nor any derivation is possible. It connotes the attributes of Perfection and Beauty. Allah is the name of the Divine One, as distinguished from all other attributive names called Asma-ul-Husna, the most excellent names. There are ninety-nine Epithets of His attributes mentioned through the Holy Qur'an.

All the attributes of Allah are absolute. The attribute of His perfection possesses a distinct glory and reveals Him as the Light wherein there is no darkness at all. Like the prismatic colors each distinct, and in the utmost perfection of beauty yet all blending in one beam of life and light. Power is the glorious attribute of Allah Almighty, which furnishes the rest of His perfections. It is His Omnipotence that makes His wisdom and goodness effectual to the measure of His Will. Thus His decrees are immutable and His Commands unalterable. It is this, which has brought forth all creation at His first call: He uttered the word "kun" and they came to life and in position. There is all possible perfection in God. In Him is absolute fullness. The source of All Life from God. All wisdom is in God. He is the Wise. All purity is in God. All righteousness is in God.

His ninety-nine attributes are not only individually complete but also perfect in their harmony. They combine as the prismatic colors in light and unite as the several elements that constitute the atmosphere and blend as the hues of the rainbow. He is the Affectionate, Loving, Kind, Benign, Oft-Returning to mercy, and Multiplier of rewards, Author of peace, Granter of security. Though He made great things like the sun and the stars, yet He thinks much more of us men, than He does of others. He made the others for our benefit. Not even the smallest flower or the tiniest bird is ever out of God's sight. He is the Creator. He is the Almighty.
