Ail likes to play the flute, and haunting music would usually waft through the halls of the school, attracting the girl students. Ail keeps a pack of cards with monsters on the card faces. The monsters on these cards would come to life when he plays a certain melody on his flute. These monsters are called Cardians. The Cardians are used by Ail and Ann to get energy from earth for their tree, Makaiju.

Ail was pursued by Makoto Kino at one point. He was once suspected of being the Knight of the Moonlight as well.
