Sailor Moon episode 80

Episode title: Diamond in the Rough

Canadian Air date: 11/19/97

Serena ran through the streets of Tokyo, away from the Dark Crystal. The Crystal itself was huge, and growing faster and faster. As Serena ran, she remembered what she, as Sailor Moon, had talked about with Tuxedo Mask, just after the death of Sapphire.

"Sailor Moon." Said Tuxedo Mask. "You and the Sailor Scouts get some rest. I'll see you in a little while. I'm going to find a way to get inside the Dark Crystal."

"Is that really safe, Tuxedo Mask?" Asked Sailor Moon worriedly.

"Probably not." Replied Tuxedo Mask. "But it may be our last hope to stop it."

Serena stopped running, and looked at the Dark Crystal. She knew that Tuxedo Mask was inside already. He always knew how to stop the enemy. Oh, no! Serena thought. The Dark Crystal's twice the size it was an hour ago! Oh, Darien I hope you're okay!

Just then, someone walked up to Serena, but stopped some feet away.

"Serena?" Said the person. Serena looked over to the source of the voice to see her long time friend, Molly Baker. "Serena," Molly said, "Are you okay?" Serena looked perplexed. "You've been looking really worried lately." Said Molly. "And, I wondered if it had anything to do with that thing over there." She gestured towards the growing Dark Crystal. Serena looked at Molly, shocked for a second. Molly said,

"Don't know why, but I've got this weird feeling you know what's going on. But listen, if you need me for any reason, I'll be there for you, okay Serena?"

"Thanks, Molly." Serena said gratefully, despite her stare of wonder at her friend. She looked away for a second, and smiled at her friend, saying, "But, why would a Meatball Head like me know anything about a UFO?"

"Yeah, I guess you're right." Molly said smiling. Her look turned to that of worry. "But, I still have this weird feeling I should worry about you."

"What?" Serena said. "What do you mean?" Molly took Serena's hand, and looked at her friend.

"Serena," Molly said, with a serious look, "just remember what I said." She smiled. "I'll see you at school tomorrow, okay?"

"Yeah, Molly." Serena replied. "See you tomorrow."

Wind began to howl through the trees as Serena and Molly departed.

"Don't forget the math test!" Molly shouted to Serena, as Serena continued running. Molly watched in worry as her friend ran off. She looked to the sky, and said to herself,

"Serena, I don't know what it is, exactly. But, I know something's dangerous is going on."

As Serena ran down the road in the park she had reached, she thought about Molly. Molly, you're such a good friend. She thought. I won't let you down. I promise. And, I won't let planet Earth down, either. As Serena ran, the Dark Crystal grew larger...

Prince Diamond was looking at the Dark Crystal's reactor. It looked a lot like a large, crystalline porcupine, that was colored purple. Its spines shot out in a spherical pattern, and it hovered above the ground set for it. There was a railing separating Diamond from the reactor. Wiseman descended behind Diamond.

"It is time." Wiseman said gravely. Diamond turned to face him.

"Wiseman!" Said Diamond, feeling his rage build. "How dare you show your face after what you did to my brother! You ignored my direct order and destroyed him!"

"He was a traitor!" Wiseman argued. "We've worked too long and too hard to win back Earth, to lose the prize because of one miserable turncoat!"

At those words, Diamond's anger reached its peak, and Diamond could feel himself beginning to hate Wiseman.

"I'm the only one who can make such decisions!" Diamond shouted angrily.

"Please, Prince." Wiseman pleaded artificially, showing the Prince his crystal ball. "Our victory is almost at hand. The Dark Crystal is nearing its energy peak. As your advisor, I say make our long cherished dream come true!" As Wiseman said this, he remembered that Wicked Lady was looking over the Dark Crystal. "It's so perfect." He said. "Everything's going as planned! Wicked Lady gave us a sweet opportunity for revenge on Earth!"

"Everything perfect?" Diamond repeated, with a zombie-like stare. He shook out of it. "Get real!" He said. "Now, answer my question, Wiseman! Why did you deliberately disobey my order and destroy Sapphire?"

"Oh, regretful Prince." Wiseman replied. "The loss of your brother is a small sacrifice for our greater cause!"

"Still, it was not your decision!" Diamond said. Wiseman hovered over him ominously, with his crystal ball shining.

"Let me refresh your memory, Prince." Wiseman said. "We, the Negamoon Family, didn't come to this cold dim moon, Nemesis, because we liked it!" As Wiseman offered his argument, the flashes from his crystal ball began to reveal something about his face...

"We were banished here, and we rightfully belong on Earth!" Wiseman continued. "The people of Earth deserve our vengeance! Forget your brother's treachery! Our time is now, and we must take it!"

"You're right." Diamond said finally. "I must set aside personal feelings for the good of the Family. It's what the Earth deserves! But remember, you're only here to advise!" He turned away from Wiseman. "This, by no means, changes anything between us." Diamond stated. "Once we've conquered Earth as our own, I'll make inquiries about your blatant act of insubordination. Now, begone!"

"As you wish, your highness." Wiseman said, as Diamond left the room. "If I don't accidentally execute you first!" He added, under his breath. "Fool! He has no idea how powerful I am!" He laughed out loud.

On Earth, the Dark Crystal was beyond huge. It was ominous. The gleams of radiation coming from the Crystal only went out a few feet, but everything in that few feet became dark, with black energy. The day was turning into night, and there were dark clouds hovering above the Dark Crystal. Serena, Amy, Raye, Lita, Mina, and the cats were all standing together outside of the radiation barrier.

"The Dark Crystal's growing more powerful by the minute." Amy said.

"We've gotta do something!" Raye said.

"Before it gets too powerful." Added Lita.

"I'm worried about Tuxedo Mask." Luna said. "We haven't heard from him since he got inside the Dark Crystal!"

"I say we stop waiting around and head inside ourselves!" Artemis said. He and Luna looked at each other in agreement.

"Okay, gang!" Serena said. "Let's go!"

Serena was about to transform, but was stopped by Amy, who told her to wait.

"Hang on." Amy said. "I've got something to say. I just wish we could have another gab session over cheesecake or something. Raye, Lita, Serena, Mina. You're great friends, and great Scouts, and I just want to say how much you guys mean to me!" She smiled, to hold back the tears.

"Oh, Amy." Serena said, with a serious look. Raye giggled.

"Oh, lighten up, Amy." She said. "We're all going to get the chance to pork out on cheesecake again!"

"A victory blow-out!" Added Lita excitedly. "We'll eat so much, our stomachs will pop!"

"I'm with ya!" Serena said, smiling. Lita laughed.

"Whaddya have? A black hole for a stomach?" Mina quipped. She, Lita and Raye laughed.

"And you don't crater mouth?" Serena retorted. Amy laughed.

"Yeah, alright!" Lita said, putting her hand out, palm face down. "To saving the Earth, and eating cheesecake!"

"The Earth of the present, and the future too!" Added Mina, putting her hand in.

"We'll bust open that Black Crystal, and send those Nega-dweebs back to Nemesis where they belong!" Proclaimed Amy, putting her hand in.

"Right, Amy!" Raye said, putting her hand in. "We'll kick some major Nega-butt!"

"And get Rini back to her real self again!" Said Serena, putting her hand in. All the girls hands were in the circle. They looked at each other for a moment, and got ready to venture into the Dark Crystal.

"MOON CRYSTAL POWER!"

"MERCURY STAR POWER!!"

"MARS STAR POWER!"

"JUPITER STAR POWER!"

"VENUS STAR POWER!"

The Dark Crystal began to grow even more quickly, as the Sailor Scouts appeared in the places of the five girls. The crystalline points that jutted out of the ominous form began to emit dark energy. The Sailor Scouts charged at the Dark Crystal, and Sailor Moon stopped abruptly when she noticed the energy from one of the spines. Suddenly, it sent out a beam of energy, and knocked Sailor Moon backwards. The Sailor Scouts came to her aid. Sailor Moon rose to her feet.

"I'll get you back, Rini!" She said. "Guys, it's time to go!"

Sailor Moon and the Scouts began to run at the Dark Crystal again, and the dark energy around them began to electrocute them. Sailor Moon stood her ground, as did the other Sailor Scouts.

"Sailor Moon!" Shouted Mercury. "Be strong!"

"We have to find Rini wherever she is, in there!" Venus shouted.

"Yeah!" Added Jupiter. "But, she's still Wicked Lady!"

"The only one who can save Rini is Sailor Moon!" Sailor Mars shouted. The Sailor Scouts got into a circle, and used the power of the cosmos to get into the Dark Crystal.

"MERCURY STAR POWER!"

"MARS STAR POWER!"

"JUPITER STAR POWER!"

"VENUS STAR POWER!"

"MOON CRYSTAL POWER!"

The bodies of the Sailor Scouts began to glow. When Sailor Moon evoked her power, she raised her arms in the air, and energy began to leap from her body, and rise into the air. The Sailor Scouts were enveloped in a ball of light, and it sped into the Dark Crystal, leaving only Luna and Artemis.

"I hope they'll be okay!" Luna said worriedly.

"Don't worry." Artemis replied. "With the promise of cheesecake, they'll win this fight!"

The Sailor Scouts appeared inside the Dark Crystal. They were on large platform made of crystal, and their surroundings were the same. All was darkness around them, and the Sailor Scouts were apprehensive, but determined.

"It looks kind of like a maze to me." Sailor Mars commented.

"Let's go this way." Sailor Moon said, looking around, and walking forward. Mercury told her to be careful. As Sailor Moon walked forward, a small chute opened in the floor, and Sailor Moon fell in. The Sailor Scouts could only watch as the hatch closed, and Sailor Moon plummeted down the chute.

"I wonder where she went." Venus said. Mercury activated her VR Visor, to pinpoint Sailor Moon's location.

Meanwhile, Sailor Moon landed quite hard on her feet, as the end of the chute came to her. The room around her was crystalline, as expected, and it was dark. From the darkness, she heard a voice.

"Sailor Moon." It said ominously. Sailor Moon looked over to a doorway, to see a form standing by it. She gasped, as it was Prince Diamond. "Well, well." He said, smiling wryly. "I see you've finally fallen for me, Miss Moon."

"It's you again!" Sailor Moon said, looking at her captor.

"I'm pleased to see you again too." Diamond said, his earring sparkling in the faint light. He leapt upwards, and teleported. He appeared high above Sailor Moon, hanging upside down. He then leapt over to Sailor Moon, so that he was standing right over her. He grabbed her arms. Sailor Moon looked in terror at the mighty Prince, and the Prince only said,

"So lovely. And, at last, you and the Silver Crystal are about to be mine."

With that, the Negamoon crescent on Diamond's forehead narrowed, and became Diamond's Third Eye. It flashed ominously, and Sailor Moon began to feel its hypnotic effects. Her eyes began to glaze over, like a zombie's.

"Now, Sailor Moon," said Diamond, "the time has come for you to give Prince Diamond your solemn vow of loyalty!"

"Sailor Moon," Sailor Moon said, in monotones, "must give a vow of loyalty..."

"Now, pretty Sailor Moon." Diamond said sinisterly, holding Sailor Moon in his arms. He leaned forward to kiss the Sailor Scouts. "It's time to show your true feelings!"

Sailor Moon, still in her dream state, muttered the name of her Prince.

"Oh, Darien."

Diamond drew back in distaste, and in shock. The powers of his Third Eye seemed to be nothing compared to the will of Sailor Moon. His Third Eye released its hold, as he shouted,

"Darien?! You're mine, you hear me!?"

When Sailor Moon came to fully, she looked at the Prince, and began to hold her ground defensively.

"No matter how much mind control you try on me, you'll never, ever win my heart!"

"Love." Diamond said with a quiet expression. "It's overrated. And, only complicates matters."

With that, Diamond leaned forward, and shone his Third Eye yet again. Sailor Moon shut her eyes, to avoid the effects. Diamond told her to look into his eyes.

"Hey, don't you ever give up?" Sailor Moon said strongly. "It isn't working!" She looked up at the Prince. "And even if it did work," she said, "you'd know it wasn't my true feelings, but your cheap mind control tricks!"

"You really think I actually care whether you love me or not?" Diamond replied, standing over Sailor Moon, Third Eye gleaming. "I just want you to say that you, Sailor Moon, are mine, and mine alone!" Sailor Moon's eyes glazed over. As Sailor Moon fell into a dream state, she remembered Rini, the innocence of her life. She remembered the Sailor Scouts, her true friends. She remembered Molly Baker, her friend from the beginning. Most of all, she remembered Darien, the true love that she knew would last for thousands of years.

Sailor Moon came to, and glared at Diamond. Diamond, amazed closed his Third Eye, and looked at Sailor Moon in wonder.

"You're conscious!" He said. "Why aren't my powers of persuasion working?"

"Hey, get a clue, Jack!" Sailor Moon replied smartly. "You can't force people to against their hearts. It doesn't work that way!"

"It's always worked before, and it'll work now!" Diamond replied. "I'm taking Earth back again!"

"Why does your plan have to destroy the people of the Earth?" Asked Sailor Moon. "You could negotiate, compromise, make some kind of deal."

"Don't you think we tried all that long ago?" Diamond said, glaring at the small lady. "And, what did we get for it? Banished to bleak, miserable Nemesis!"

"Gimme a break!" Sailor Moon said. "Listen, I've got four really good friends from Nemesis, and they love it here, and we get along just great!"

"But, Wiseman." Diamond said softly, withdrawing. He put his hand to his chin. "Could he have been lying to us about you Earth people?" Sailor Moon nodded affirmingly.

"You better believe it." She said. "Your brother tried to warn you about his lies, but Wiseman got to poor Sapphire first."

Diamond grimaced, as he remembered the death of his brother, Prince Sapphire. He began to feel his anger about the death of his brother.

"Wiseman." He repeated, looking at Sailor Moon. "I can't believe it, but I know!" He looked at the Sailor Scout's sincere eyes. "Those eyes of yours are the ones that tell the truth." He said. He took a step towards Sailor Moon, and it was then that Wiseman arose from the floor, some feet away.

"Don't listen to her, Prince!" He shouted. "This silly girl's putting ridiculous ideas into your head!" As Wiseman said this, his crystal ball glowed bright pink. "Get rid of her now!" His eyes glowed blue. "We've got work to do!" He said.

"I'll never take orders from you!" Diamond shouted, his body glowing with anger. Wiseman rose high into the air. "Understand?" Diamond shouted.

"Perfectly." Wiseman replied. "I don't think I care to follow an idiot who listens to an Earthling!" Diamond was taken aback, and Wiseman continued. "With Wicked Lady on my side, and the power of the Dark Crystal increasing, I have no more use for you!" As he said that, his crystal balls energy began to intensify. "Do say hello to Sapphire and Emerald for me!"

Wiseman's crystal ball released a swirling cloud of dark energy at the Prince. Prince Diamond used his own powers to cut through the energy. He was struggling, with the immense of the Wiseman.

"So, Sapphire was right, then!" Diamond exclaimed, straining against the powers of the Wiseman. "To bad I didn't listen then! But, I will avenge his death!" Diamond put his hand out, and shot a bolt of energy at Wiseman. Before it hit, Wiseman disappeared, and reappeared above Diamond. Diamond struck the slow Wiseman in the air.

"I will rid Earth of every living thing!" Wiseman exclaimed, getting his crystal ball ready. "I will restore the silence, the nothingness, the darkness, in the name of the Doom Phantom!"

Both Diamond and Wiseman powered up, and they both shot beams of power at each other. Sailor Moon could only watch, as Wiseman's black energies were rivaling (And being rivaled by) Diamond's white energies. There was a flash of light, and a gust of wind as the powers battled.

"The Doom Phantom?" Sailor Moon said to herself in panic.

"So that's what this has been all about, Wiseman!" Diamond shouted, as his powers battled with the floating cloak. Surprisingly, the light didn't reveal anything about Wiseman's face. "I'll see you perish first!"

Wiseman laughed at Diamond's words, and Diamond raised his free hand. It gathered its energy, and fired a white-blue beam at the Wiseman. Wiseman's crystal ball blocked the hit, and Wiseman drew away from the fight, and went after Sailor Moon. He used his crystal ball to create sharp, black tendrils that leapt out at Sailor Moon. Diamond watched in terror as they loomed over the Sailor Scout...

Wiseman laughed, as his tendrils reached Sailor Moon. As he laughed, his face was revealed by the flashes from his crystal ball. The Wiseman's face wasn't a face at all. It was a skull.

Sailor Moon looked down at the one who had taken the hit for her. It was Prince Diamond, and he had been impaled by the tendrils, which broke off into spikes. Diamond arose, and looked at Wiseman.

"You're still here?" Wiseman said. "Easily remedied. I'll finish you both at once!"

Diamond smiled lightly as Wiseman released more tendrils at them.

"Don't underestimate me!" He exclaimed. "Take this!"

Diamond blasted his own energies at the Wiseman. They easily cut through Wiseman's and Wiseman screamed in pain, as his body shattered. His empty cloak fell to the floor, and his crystal ball descended gingerly, landing nearby. Diamond collapsed into Sailor Moon's arm, and lied on his back.

"I know I've made a tragic mistake, Sailor Moon." Diamond said softly. "I just wanted my people to have a chance to live on a beautiful planet. To see flowers, and waterfalls, blue skies. But, I got too wound up in wanting revenge, and hating you Earth people. Please forgive me." Meanwhile, on the pile that was Wiseman, Wiseman's dead crystal ball regained its life. "Sailor Moon, I just hope it's not too late." Diamond continued. "I wanted to live like you Humans, but I lacked your human heart."

"You saved my life, though." Sailor Moon said softly and encouragingly. "So, you must have some kind of heart."

The face of the Wiseman appeared in his crystal ball. The ball rose into the air.

"And now that you know you were wrong," Sailor Moon continued, "Maybe you can start changing your ways."

"I wish." Diamond replied weakly, smiling warmly. "If I had the time, I would."

Nearby, the crystal ball glowed, and all the pieces of the Wiseman that had been scattered about the room began to go to it, attracted like magnets.

"Oh, Sailor Moon," Diamond said, "how I'd love to hear more about Earth from you. To learn what Catsy and her sisters have all learned. Maybe we people from Nemesis might have been able to live in peace with you Earthlings."

Wiseman's robe began to rise from the floor...

"Diamond, don't go!" Sailor Moon said, sobbing. "We can't do this without you! We need your help!" Diamond looked amazed at Sailor Moon, and put a hand on her face.

"You cry for me." He said, almost whispering. "You have such a big heart, Sailor Moon. It's all up to you now. I wish I could help, but it's you who must save the future and reunite Nemesis with Earth." Sailor Moon nodded, sobbing for her dying friend. "Sailor Moon," Diamond said, closing his eyes, getting ever closer to death, "sorry I lied. I did love you."

Diamond's eyes closed, and his body went limp, as his life had finished. The sonata of Prince Diamond had come to its last measure, and the ending was that of a masterpiece. Sailor Moon sobbed at Diamond, but turned when she felt a brush of wind against the back of her neck, and heard a hand reaching for her.

"Take a good look at what your Tuxedo Mask is doing!" Wiseman said, after Sailor Moon had discovered him behind her. He shone a spotlight some distance away, and it showed Darien and Rini walking together. "While you're here, sobbing over that wimp, Diamond," Wiseman said, "your beloved Darien has seen the wisdom of our ways, and has joined forces with Wicked Lady! He's come over to our side, Sailor Moon!" The next image showed Rini on Darien's back, and Serena standing alone, behind them. "He's left you for us!"

Wiseman laughed, as Sailor Moon began to cry. Sailor Moon sank to her knees.

"Oh, it's not true." Sailor Moon said. "More of your lies! I know my Darien! He wouldn't join forces with you!" Black tendrils came out of Wiseman's crystal ball.

"Oh, but it is true." Wiseman replied. "Look for yourself!" With that, the tendrils became smoke, and swirled around Sailor Moon. She was shown an image that she thought she would never see. Standing together, holding each other close, were Tuxedo Mask, and Wicked Lady.

"You're so naive." Wiseman said. "You think you know Darien, heart and soul! Think back! Remember how you were always so jealous when Darien paid attention to Small Lady? Look at them now! They've joined forces with me and the Doom Phantom!" Sailor Moon saw Tuxedo Mask and Wicked Lady looking into each other's eyes, and saw another image of them walking away, Wicked Lady smiling at Sailor Moon. Wicked Lady's voice echoed, as she chuckled, and Sailor Moon refused to believe Darien had fallen so easily.

"It's not real!" Sailor Moon said. She saw images of Wicked Lady in the Wiseman's crystal ball, and she saw Rini over one for a moment. "You've gotta help me, Sailor Moon! Please, trust me!" Rini said. Sailor Moon, whose eyes had glazed over, came out of her dream state, and rose to her feet.

"Why?" Wiseman said, tilting his head. "Why isn't it working?"

"Rini and Darien are the most important people in my life!" Sailor Moon replied. "And, I trust them with all my heart!"

Wiseman's crystal ball was glowing brightly, and he shot a barrage of sharp tendrils at Sailor Moon. They stopped, when they were hit by a flash of light. Wiseman looked behind himself to see Tuxedo Mask descend nearby.

"And, I've had it with you!" Tuxedo Mask said. "How dare you toy with Sailor Moon's mind, fabricating lies to turn us against each other! I'll show you how wise you are!" He raised his cane. "Wiseman!"

"My true Tuxedo Mask!" Exclaimed Sailor Moon. Suddenly,

"Don't forget us, too!"

"Sailor Mars!"

"Sailor Jupiter!"

"Sailor Mercury!"

"Sailor Venus!"

"We'll show you how wise you're not!"

Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus and Tuxedo Mask had all congregated around Wiseman. Wiseman, of course, was without fear, and said,

"Very charming, and very ineffectual! Especially now that Wicked Lady's powers are strong enough to open the Dark Gate to the other side! In a moment, there will be a burst of energy so massive, it will reduce Earth to a dustcloud!"

Meanwhile, the Dark Crystal continued to grow.

"Where's this Dark Gate?" Sailor Moon asked. Wiseman simply replied,

"There's no way any of you can stop us now! So, this is good-bye, Sailor Saps!" Wiseman laughed loudly, disappearing. The Sailor Scouts looked on.

"I think I might know where the Dark Gate is located." Tuxedo Mask said. "Come on, let's hurry!" He left, and the Sailor Scouts followed.

All of Tokyo could see the Dark Crystal, as it glowed brightly, with its powers increasing. Tuxedo Mask and the Sailor Scouts were atop a large hexagonal (Six-sided, for those who aren't so great at geometry) platform. On each of the six corners, large crystal pillars conducted that dark energy from the large black hole that loomed above them.

"This is the center of the Dark Gate." Explained Tuxedo Mask. Above them, Wicked Lady appeared just below the Dark Gate, and looked at the Sailor Scouts.

"Look who's here." Wicked Lady said. "The Sailor Stooges!"

"There's Rini!" Exclaimed Sailor Moon.

"It is Rini!" The Sailor Scouts cried in unison. Wicked Lady hovered above the group, her dress blowing in the wind.

"No." Wicked Lady said. "I'm Wicked Lady. Messenger of the Doom Phantom, master of time, space and matter. Very soon, this world will end, and there's nothing you can do to stop it!"

The Sailor Scouts could only watch, as Wicked Lady laughed sinisterly.
