ITALY II

After Rome, we visited Venice. Venezia is UNIQUE! gLa Serenissimah, as italians call it, is a phenomenon. The secret to seeing and discovering the romance and beauty of Venezia is to walk: each small and narrow street, each canal (the city has some 150 canals and more than 400 bridges) is worth seeing.

Piazza San Marco is the symbol of lovely Venice. It was described by Napoleon as gthe finest drawing room in Europeh. Definitely, he was not lying! Going there, one must feed the pigeons that fly all the time throughout the Piazza and also visit the gBasilica di San Marcoh, built in the Byzantine style in the 11th century and richly decorated with magnificent mosaics and other embellishments over the next five centuries.

You can only see ggondolash in Venice. Watch them slip in front of the gPalace Ducalh, drinking a bottle of Italian sparkling wine was GREAT! Sit in front of the Grand Canal, observe the singular architecture of that little town, listen to the sound the "gondolas" make while they cross the water, listen to the gondoleiros singing the gSole Mioh, etc. All those simple things are meaningful in Venezia.

The gBridge of Sighsh (gPonte dei Sospirih), just beside Piazza San Marco, is another famous point in Venezia. Although its name and beauty evoke romantic images, the bridge was the thoroughfare for prisoners being led to the dungeons.
