Madrid

Here are some photos from my trip to Madrid Friday, May 21 - Monday, May 24, 2004.

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3

Day 2 - Sunday May 23, 2004

My plan was to check out a few museums today, but I forgot to set my alarm and didn't wake up until 1pm and they were all closed.  But I still had time to hit El Rastro which is this huge flea market that takes place in Madrid every Sunday.  There were hundreds of stalls on this big hill that spanned several blocks and was open only to pedestrians.  After that I got some tapas for breakfast: some potatoes in four cheese sauce with peppers and cava (Spanish sparkling wine) mixed with orange juice.  Next I had to do some work out in a hospital in the countryside.  After that I decided to take a walk and check out a parque that was supposed to have a really great view of the palacio real (the royal palace).  It was becoming a drizzly day but I made it to the top and the view was great.  After that I wanted to take the metro to the parque del retiro but by the time I got there it was getting dark and didn't think it would be too safe.  So I went tapas bar hopping.
