ITALY I
The Coliseum is STILL splendid. Its construction was started by Emperor Vespasian in 72 AD in the grounds of Nerofs Golden House, and completed by his son Titus. It is impressive how all that structure (all the columns that support the monument) is still in a good state of conservation. Maybe that is the reason why the Coliseum is one of the most visited places in whole Italy.
Piazza Navona, which is one of the most famous gpiazzash in Rome, is a nice place to enjoy a typical Italian gcappuccinoh, sit on one of the cafes that surround the Piazza. Of course, we also had our capuccino there.
It is a vast and beautiful square, lined with baroque palaces and the Berninifs masterpiece, the beautiful gFontana dei Fiumih (gFountain of the Riversh), in the centre.
Brazilians say that "if you go to Italy and don't see the Pope, you did nothing" - guess we must return just to meet him!. Actually, we visited the Vatican City, "land of the Pope", but, unfortunately he wasn't there... Anyway, the "Piazza San Pietro" and the gBasilicah as well (17th century) are worth paying a visit. We were both impressed with the richness of the place: the floor in marble and some of the paintings in the ceiling in gold. Incredible!
