Tony Leung Chiu Wai was born on June 27, 1962 in Canton (Guandong) Province. He was raised in Hong Kong by his mother.
Tony has been given the nickname of "Wai Jai" by the Hong Kong population. "Jai" means little boy or little kid. They don't call him (Little Tony) because he is a youngster, they do this to distinguish him from another popular actor named Tony Leung Ka Fai (Big Tony), who is only a few years his senior.
Tony has been in numerous movies and won best for supporting actor twice at the Annual Hong Kong Film Awards. Once for "My Heart is That Eternal Rose" and again for "People's Hero". He won best actor for "Chungking Express" where he stars opposite Takeshi Kaneshiro.
He once had a television career and is attempting a pop star career. Information on this can be found at This Great Tony Leung Site.
