Japanese Tea Ceremony Introduction Class
Since this is a traditional class, everybody was introduced and taught how to conduct oneself.
This is a typical door in a Japanese house. Made from a special material, the door is very light and detachable. A person should not enter the tea room until allowed by the host and he/she should wait on the other side of the room.
Before entering, the door is knocked several times. After being invited, a person should open the door slightly. Open it again for another two times until the door is fully opened.
Once inside, one should sit behind a line as indicated in the picture.
Prior to preparing tea, guests are served with a very sweet cake -- to complement the bitter tea to be served later.
This is one of the sensei preparing the tea.
Her assistance is handing over the tea to a guest to be given to another guest waiting behind the said line.
This is how the tea is being drunk. Look at the position of both hands.
Thank you for the sensei and her assistants. What an experience!
