Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT)

A glimpse of the institute. First impression -- well maintain gardens and conducive environment to gain knowledge. Mostly old building though.

I told you the garden is nice.

Now, lets go inside… and have a look of what they would inform us…

Dr Hosomura is a subject librarian professor.

During the tour, he has been assisted by Mr Mudota. Although the visit is around the institution, our real purpose was to visit their Library Center. Among others, we observed donation of LP records

from donors in Japan since the revolutionary of LP records to CD/MD.

We were introduced to a 25-year-old system of searching books or periodicals or journals using mainframe (later I realized they had been using IBM mainframe 37xx series) in their computer data center.

I am searching for a book… (English book, of course!)

Borrowing, returning and reserving books probably using a newer system since the equipment was quite new. They have listening and learning language corner using PCs; and in other part of the library there were learning lesson using videos (video servers). Over here, students and faculty members use the one-for-all ID cards to access the systems.

To reduce space, they use power assisted hydraulic book racks.

The following are how they utilize the equipment and facilities here in the library.

Upon admission to the institute, all students are required to purchase a notebook. Most of the accessing to internet, e-mail and doing homework are all done using their 'personalized' notebook.

Printers are available for printing. But if you are just passing by, you may use other PCs available..

if there is any.
