NAME: Kathleen Rubio

FANFICS: The Battle of the Sailor Scouts and the Spice Squad, Sailor Scouts:Power Swap.

WHERE YOU CAN FIND HIS FANFICS: Rush's Sailor Moon Fanfic Page

WHERE I MET HER: I met Kathleen in high school in grade nine. We've been friends ever since. I was really grateful for this when she dragged me through grade twelve math and physics in a single semester. (I still am actually.) Now she is at the University of Toronto and I live in London so we keep in touch by email.

MY FAVOURITE FANFIC MOMENT: This is simple. My favourite moment is in Sailor Scouts: Power Swap when Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus get their powers mixed up. Jupiter gets part of Mercury's powers and part of Venus' powers. She tries an attack and come up with "Jupiter Lovely Bubbles!" I was reading this in Kathleen's room and I'm sure the whole house could hear me laughing.

THE INTERVIEW

(RUSH)Tell me a little about yourself.

(KATHLEEN)I'm in the second year of my three year physical therapy degree at the university of toronto. i have completed an honors degree from queen's university at kingston in life sciences. while at queen's i discovered the wonderful world of email and cyberspace. and i am proud to say that it was _I_ who told rush to go check out sailor moon on the internet. fanfic pages, photo galleries, and everything else :). as for other interests, i'm taking tae kwon do (i have my red belt now), i love the flying trapeze (that is, i love flying on the trapeze as well as watching others flying), and i'm a big fan of star trek.

(RUSH)What's your favourite fanfic moment?

(KATHLEEN)It's from SAILOR SCOUTS: POWER SWAP. three little words: Jupiter Lovely Bubbles. to think that Sailor Jupiter used to wield thunderbolts like Michael Jordan handles a basketball and now after encountering the Rainbow Warrior, tiny bubbles float around her. gotta love the absurdity of it all.

(RUSH)What's your favourite Sailor Scout?

(KATHLEEN)I don't think i have one particular favourite. i think there are qualities in some of them that i can identify with. for instance, there's mercury's level-headedness and intelligence. there's jupiter's experience with martial arts and loyalty to her friends. there's uranus' love of driving fast. there's neptune's love of music. and mars' spirituality impresses me. i'm not incredibly religious or spiritual but i do believe that there's a lot out there that goes far beyond what we can understand.

(RUSH)Why did you start to write fanfiction?

(KATHLEEN)Well coming from a science background doesn't give me a lot of opporunities to try out my creative skills. so after reading a variety of fanfic and reading rush's stories i decided to give it a try. my first attempt was the sailor scouts/spice girls cross-over. i decided on something light, airy, and short. besides, i don't really take my writing too seriously so why not have fun with it?

(RUSH)What's your favourite season of Sailor Moon and why?

(KATHLEEN)Since i haven't seen too many of the seasons not shown in north america, i really don't have much to choose from. i like the episodes with the four sisters because by this time all the inner scouts are beginning to gain a better understanding of their powers and are really working together as a team. also, serena isn't as whiny and begins to show some maturity and maternal instincts with reenie. i'm rather partial to the episode "naughty and nice" which is the big battle scene between the black moon family and the sailor scouts. i always love good fight scenes.

(RUSH)What are your thoughts on anime?

(KATHLEEN)I first fell in love with anime when i saw Battle of the Planets (also known as G-Force or as Gatchaman) when i was about 5 or 6. at the time, i didn't know it was anime. i just knew it was a great cartoon with awesome fight scenes. i was really disappointed when it was taken off the air. then came Voltron: The Lions. never saw any episodes with the vehicles. i do remember the Voltron Movie which combined the two Voltron forces. next came Robotech when i was 13. i loved it! i watched it religiously and wanted my very own Cyclone. i nearly went into convulsions when they took it off the air. while at queen's i began watching Sailor Moon. the first time i saw it was a fluke. i thought Gargoyles was going to be on, then the opening scene complete with Star Wars-like scrolling words comes on. i thought the show was incredibly cheesy and i didn't even finish the episode. but i gradually warmed up to it and learned to appreciate its cheesiness. :) in my first year at the university of toronto (age 23) i was introduced to ranma 1/2 and i have not stopped laughing. i've rented a bunch of episodes, OAVs, and movies. still haven't seen it all but i'm working on it! :) at the same time, i was re-introduced to Battle of the Planets/G-Force/Gatchaman. it was like being 5 all over again. i've also seen some Dragon Ball, Moldiver, Gundam, Spaceship Yamato (which i can do without), and Guyver. and i've got friends willing to introduce me to Evangelion and other anime. *sigh* so much anime, so little time.

Thanks Kathleen for the wonderful interview!
