Chapter 1 : The Beginning

Now that the Shohoku Inter-High Girls basketball match is just a week away, the Shohoku girls basketball team had been training hard to make it into the top 2! Due the busy schedule planned by both the coach, An-Sei and the girls’ captain, Kotori now has lesser time to be with Mitsui. Nevertheless, Mitsui did not feel bad about unable to go out with Kotori. They tried to make a date as soon as Kotori is free, or just meet each other in between practices.

The days of training went pass smoothly. And the big day seems to be just around the corner. For the first few qualifying rounds and preliminary matches, An-Sei did not allow Kotori to participate. Rather, he allowed to captain, Yuki to lead the team straight into the finals. Though Kotori was allowed to play the last few minutes of each game, she felt that she did not contribute much to the success of the team. This had made Yuki feeling proud and boastful. Many people now befriended Yuki thinking that she then is the ‘real’ basketball star of Shohoku.

Upon seeing all these Mitsui felt very unjust for Kotori. Finally, he broke the silence, " Kotori, why didn’t you ask An-Sei to let you play?" Kotori just bluntly replied, " He said that the time is not ripe yet ." Then she turned away. Within her, she felt bad too. Not because An-Sei did not allow her to participate, but it is because of how the people surrounding her are treating her.

Not that most of the school’s attention had turned from Kotori towards Yuki, Yuki enjoys what she had always wanted. Friends, gossips of the latest news,…. everything that she had dreamt of. Everything she had once almost possess but had vanished with the appearance of Kotori. Thus she work hard to snatch all those that should be hers back. She worked very hard but she did not get the thing which she wanted most - Hisashi Mitsui!
