The Mystic Chronicles

Chapter 1

New enemy

Prologue

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A light smile appeared on his face; they had finally arrived. The smile grew bigger as a young man came into his vision. He loved the Ningenkai; humans were so easy to catch. Smiling to himself, he jumped down from the roof he was standing on to go and meet his new victim. A few moments later, the young man went down to the city, apparently unchanged, except that his eyes once as blue as the sky, were now as black as the night. The young man started walking quicker; his sister was waiting for him.

Part 1

Botan looked at Koenma in astonishment. "The Amazons are in the Ningenkai!!! But, what are they doing here?"

"We don't know yet." said Koenma, vainly trying to quiet down Botan.

"All we know is that there are only four of them in the human world. I think they are looking for something."

"Do we know what?" asked Botan. Koenma shook his head; "No, and it's worrying me."

"So what are we doing then?"

"Right now, nothing. I'd prefer to face all of the demons of the Makai, than four Amazons in fury." said Koenma.

From some roof, near of Tokyo's town-centre, Celest smiled slightly at herself after hearing the last words of Koenma; they weren't that bad!

'Only when Phoenix loses her temper.' she thought to herself.

"You better watch your thoughts Wizard!" said a voice behind her.

Celest caught a quick movement and suddenly her friend was beside her.

She gave her a sidelong look, but Sorchania kept scanning the town in front of them. "So, what did he say?" she asked, without looking away from the lights. "He will leave us alone, if we are careful." answered Celest. The girl beside her only gave a sharp nod of her head. The blue curves, painted on her silver mask, were glowing softly and Celest had known her friend for long enough to know that it wasn't the time to disturb her; the hunter was hunting. After a few minutes, the curves came back to their normal colour and Sorcha opened her eyes, giving a quick side look at the tall girl beside her. "Did you find something?" the Wizard asked.

"He's here and already in possession of a new body." The Wizard nodded.

Then, a strong wind made their cloaks fly and the two shadows disappear.

Back in Koenma's place. "Go bring me Botan! Quick!!!" he shouted to one of the servants. 'It can't be possible! IT CAN'T BE!!!' he thought to himself. He quickly turned toward the door as he heard Botan's footsteps. "What's up my Lord?!!" asked the blue-haired girl urgently.

"I think I have found the reason why the Amazons are in the Ningenkai." said Koenma, with a sinister voice.

"What???"

"The Vampire and his sister, the Dark Angel, had arrived three days before the Amazons." said Koenma. At those words, Botan's eyes widened with horror; the Vampire was one of the most powerful and dangerous criminals in the Makai. His sister was a step above him. "So, that means that..." started Botan and her eyes grew wider.

"Yes, it means that it's the Phoenix and her friends who are in the Ningenkai." finished Koenma. Botan was astonished; the Phoenix was one of the most powerful Amazon. Only her friend, called the Star Wizard, was more powerful. The powers of the two others had never been recorded nor their appearance, but Botan knew that they were powerful as well.

She had only seen them once, when she had been sent to give the group some information, a few years ago. 'Really intimidating.' she remembered. "So, what are we doing now? Do you think they're going to need help?"

"Knowing the Amazons as we know them, they would rather cut their throats before asking for help, except if it's another Amazon who offers it, and even then..." said Koenma.

"All right! All right! I understand what you mean." said Botan, "But we have to find something, we cannot let them fight those demons alone!!!" continued the girl. It was pretty rare that Botan got upset and, most of the time, Koenma knew why. But this time, he didn't have a single clue. Koenma sighed and the two immortals started their brain-storming to find a solution.

Part 2

"Ready shrimp!" asked Kuwabara, with his Rei-sword in his hands. Hiei only answered by a flat look. 'Why is it always me who's stuck with this idiot?' he thought to himself. Kuwabara started running toward him.

Hiei made a quick side step and punched the orange-haired guy, making in that way, flied away the 180 cm of Kuwabara's body. Suddenly, he stopped, feeling his Jagan burning on his forehead. "YOU, LITTLE BASTARD!!!" started Kuwabara, getting back on his feet and, seeing the faint light behind Hiei's bandanna; "What's the matter?

"Dunno... Which colour is it?" asked the little youkai, removing his bandanna.

"Hn... Dark blue, why?" asked the tall boy.

"Nothing." said Hiei and he disappeared, leaving an stonished Kuwabara;

"And the fight?!" asked the boy to the empty place, where Hiei had been a second before. Kuwabara shook his head; "I hate when he does that!" he muttured to himself.

Hiei sat down on the branch and leaned against the trunk. Quickly, he removed his bandanna and passed a slight finger over his Jagan. 'What is the meaning of it?' the little youkai asked to himself. Closing his eyes, Hiei opened his third one and started looking for the source of the sudden burning. There was nothing at Genkai's temple, nor around it. Master Genkai was watching a practice between Kurama and Yusuke. Kurama again was winning, while Kuwabara was grumbling to himself, still angry that Hiei had left the fight. Hiei turned his head in the direction of Tokyo. There, the one who had caused this pain was there.

Meanwhile, Sorchania was asking herself the same question. Her Lagan wide open on her forehead. At least, her third eye was coming back to its usual blue, instead of the purple into which it had changed, five minutes ago. 'Why?' she asked herself. Sitting down at the window, she looked at the people walking down the street, trying to find the answer to her question. Suddenly, her eyes opened wide when she remembered the legend about the Great Eyes of the Search. A male can only use one, called Jagan. The other, called Lagan, only by a female. Sorcha looked up in the direction of Genkai's temple. 'Jaganshi' she thought.

Hiei nearly fell off of his branch, when he heard the thought. 'What's that all about?' he asked himself as he jumped down and started walking towards Genkai's house. "So, what was the reason for leaving the fight?" asked Kuwabara, as soon as he saw the little black spiky haired guy. Hiei didn't even look at him. Instead, he looked at Master Genkai. "Do you know more things, than I do, about the Jagan?" he asked her. The woman looked at him with a puzzled look. "What's happened?" she finally asked, calmly. Hiei took a look around him, everyone was watching them, waiting for his answer. He put his best "Get-away-from-me-or-I-kill-you" look on his face. Kurama had a slight smile and walked toward the temple, with the two other boys. He knew that Hiei would tell what he wanted them to know, later.

"Man, I hope there's nothing wrong with him." said Yusuke, looking over his shoulder in the direction of Hiei and Genkai. "Do you have an idea of what could had happen?" he asked as they were entering in the house. "Well... Something strange happened when we were fighting." said Kuwabara. Kurama look at him; "Tell us everything." he said. And Kuwabara related the whole tale about what had happened. After the story, Kurama shook his head and asked Kuwabara: "He left after asking you what colour his Jagan was?" The tall boy nodded. Kurama look pensive and stared at the wall in front of him. 'Could it be possible that this legend could be true?' he asked to himself.

Genkai had come to the same conclusion after what Hiei told her. It can only be that, the legend was true.

Part 3

Mokaram turned to the right in the street, climbed the stairs and stopped in front of the door of the apartment they had took when they arrived in the Ningenkai. She put down her grocery bags and started looking for her key. She sighed contentedly. After the entire running and the battles they had seen during the last year, life in the human's world was so simple. "Even if human's bodies are a little too tight for me." she murmured to herself. Sighing again, the tall girl pushed away the long dark red braid in her back. Then, she pushed the door, took the bags and entered the apartment. After closing the door, Mokaram made her way through the living room to the kitchen. Except her, no one was there. She stocked the groceries and turned toward the door when she felt someone looking at her.

Sorchania was leaning against the doorway, her silver mask hanging on her belt. "Do you know where the others are?" Mokaram asked. "I think that the Wizard is at the library. But, I have no idea about Damia." said Sorcha, sitting down at the table with an apple. Mokaram nodded and scratching her back, she said: "You will have to excuse me, but I cannot stand it anymore!" And before Phoenix had time to utter word, Mokaram started stretching herself. Her skin started getting paler and her hands turned into claws. Then, her wings appeared on her back and, finally, it was over. Mokaram opened a mouth full of sharked teeth in a yawn and folded up her wings into a cloak around her shoulders. "Man, I needed that!!!" she said, continuing to stretch. The Phoenix shook her head: "You're impossible!" she said, containing herself to contain her laughter.

" That's part of my charm." said Mokaram with a big smile.

"That's a matter of opinion!"

"You're just jealous!"

"Me! Jealous of a ten feet giant bat!!! You must be kidding!" said Sorcha, falsely indignant.

"I would rather be a giant bat than a three feet little fire porcupine!"

"Humph! I bet that the porcupine is better than the bat!" said Sorcha.

"Alright, the loser does the cooking tonight. Prepare your recipes!"

"You should take that advice yourself, big bat!" And they disappeared into another dimension, where they couldn't be disturbed.

Back in Koenma's castle. "I still don't think it's a gook idea to send the YYH team to investigate the Vampire., said Botan.

"It is also the only realistic idea we have had since yesterday." said Koenma. *Sweatdrop* on Botan. "Anyway, Yusuke and his team are still yousi to the Rekai, and it's their duty to protect the Ningenkai against this monster!" the little baby continued.

"The Amazons won't really be happy about that!" sighed Botan.

"There is no need to tell that to the team." said Koenma with a sheepish look. Botan shook her head, but started smiling evilly when she thought about it: 'It will be fun to see how the YYH team will react in front of the Amazons.'

In Genkai's temple. "A new mission!!! But Botan, we are on holiday!" said Yusuke, wincing. *Sweatdrop* on everyone. "The Vampire is really dangerous!" said Botan, "And anyway, it is your duty to protect the human's world!"

"It is true that it is my duty..." said Yusuke with a pensive look. Botan smiled. "But it is also true that is my holiday time..." he continued. Everyone felt down. "So what is the mission Botan?" asked Kurama, getting back on his feet.

"We learned that the Vampire is in the Ningenkai. We still don't know the reason why, but we have to stop him before he does something." answered the blue-haired girl.

"The Vampire..." said Kurama with a pensive mood.

"Kurama, do you know something about him?" asked Yusuke. The red-haired boy took his time to answer the question. Then, finally, he looked up from the wall he was staring at, sat down and took a look around him.

"The Vampire is a demon who can steal the body of anything alive. As soon as he is in possession of a body, he consumes the soul of his victim and becomes the owner of the victim's body. He uses it to travel. No one had ever saw his real body, and if it happened, the person doesn't live long enough to tell about it. His powers are indescribable; they are made for destruction. I think that he and his sister had taken, that way, a lot of kingdoms in the Makai. The precedent owners were killed, of course. I think also that the only people who are after them are the Amazons. I don't know why though. I only know that four of them had sworn to kill them, once and for all. Of course, it can be only rumours I heard when I was young.

"Man, they must be really old!" said Kuwabara, imagining four old women, like Genkai. "If you wanna live long enough to finish university, you better watch your tongue!" said Botan, "Amazons don't like been told about their ages."

"I don't know one woman who does actually." whispered Yusuke to Kurama.

"It must be common to all women." smiled the red-haired boy. Genkai gave them a killer look and Botan sniffed loud enough to be heard all around the temple.

"No way! He won't do that!!!" shouted Sorchania slamming her fist on the table, disturbing the dinner. The others looked at her questioningly. A little after she had finish eating, the Phoenix had put her mask back on her face. When they had asked the reason why, she replied that she wanted to know what Koenma was up to. "Nothing good, I think." thought Damia, calmly putting her fork back in her place. Celest and Mokaram looked at each other; "Temper?" asked Celest.

"Temper." said the Demon of Death.

" Practice?" asked again the Wizard.

"Practice!" answered Mokaram with a big smile. And the two of them disappeared. Damia looked again at Sorcha, who was still shaking with anger and came to sit down beside her. " All right now, calm down. It won't do any good if you decide to burn the place." she said calmly passing an arm around Sorcha's shoulders. The Phoenix took a deep breath, obviously trying to control her temper. Then Damia asked: " Ok, so what is he up to?" Fire flashed in the big green eyes of her friend, before she answered, anger still in her voice: "He thinks, Koenma, that we need help! So he asked to a bunch of Rekai detectives to help us!" she took another deep breath.

"So what's wrong with that?" asked Damia. The flames in her friend's eyes grew wilder. "They are MEN! HE ASKED MEN TO HELP US!!!" she shouted. Damia's eyes grew wide; Koenma wouldn't have done THAT! Except if he wanted to commit suicide or if he was totally stupid! The practice upstairs had stopped as soon as they heard Sorcha's shout.

"You must be kidding!" said Mokaram as soon as she appeared, covered with cuts and bruises. The Phoenix sighed and shook her head, visibly trying not to burn the house this time. Damia made a bubble of water appear between her hands; with Sorchania's temper, we can never be sure.

"I wonder what is Koenma's reason." said Celest.

"Or if he has totally lost his head!" finished Mokaram. Damia gave her a quick look; the bruises and the cuts already started to disappear.

"So what are we doing now?" Damia asked. The room fell silent as the four Amazons lost themselves in a thoughtful mood.

A few minutes later... "So we all agree?" asked the Phoenix. The others nodded. "Then Celest and I will go to Koenma's place, see if he haven't lost all of his mind. In the meantime," she looked at Mokaram," you and Medusa will go seek some information about the... Team." she said the last word as if she had ate something that wasn't really fresh. Damia tried to hide the smile that had appeared on her face; Phoenix really does exaggerate sometimes. "Something funny Medusa?" asked the little youkai. Damia shook her head: "No Ma'am! Nothing Ma'am!" she said, saluting. Sorchania lifted up her mask and threw her tongue at her. The three girls burst out laughing.

In Genkai's temple, "My Lord! What are you doing here?" asked Botan.

"The Amazons have learned about our help." said Koenma.

"So?" asked Kuwabara.

"So I must hide somewhere!" answered the baby.

"They are THAT bad?!!" asked Yusuke, a little scared.

"I just prefer not take too many chances!" said Koenma. The YYH team's members looked at each other: it doesn't sound good if even Koenma was scared of the Amazons. "Kurama, can you tell us a little about them? About other demons, you are the one who knows the most about." said Yusuke. Kurama looked at him; "Well, it is mostly a community, as big as a village, somewhere in the Makai, ruled only by women."

"Like in the Greek mythology?" asked Botan. Kurama nodded: "Yes. Most of them are results of a mix between two demons who are not of the same race." Hiei moved slightly forward, after all, he too had parents who weren't of the same race. "Some of them are really powerful and can be really dangerous if you upset them a little too much." continued Kurama.

'I think he had met Phoenix before.' Celest thought to herself. She was listening to the words of the conversation; the wind had brought them to her. She smiled at the thought, sat down on the branch and continued listening.

"You talk about them as if you know them!" said Kuwabara, passing a hand through his hair. Kurama sat down more comfortably in his chair: " I do, actually."

"What!!!" said everyone at the same time. The tall boy smiled, thinking of old memories: "One of them was my partner for a time. Then, she came back to the village and we never saw each other again." Everyone noticed the sad tone in Kurama's voice and leaned forward to hear the rest of the story. But Kurama said nothing else.

'Well well. One of us had been this fox's partner. I wonder whom.' Celest thought to herself.

"Not me! Don't you be worry about it!" whispered Phoenix, a branch over her. Celest frowned: *Why are you not using telepathy?* she asked by the way of the mind.

"Don't do that!" whispered Sorchania, with a definite tone in her voice.

The Wizard looked at her with a questioning look. "Remember what Demon said; there is a Jaganshi in their gang!" said Sorcha, still watching the temple, a few feet away from the tree they were sitting on. "And?" asked the Wizard, whispering this time. Sorchania rolled her eyes to the sky: "You know what kind of powers my Lagan has?" Celest nodded half concentrating on the wind. "Well, the Jagan had pretty much the same. One thing in particular, telepathy, a Jaganshi can hear us, if we use it near him."

"Oh. Now I understand." whispered Wizard. Then, she frowned in the direction of the temple; something was going on.

"Hey Hiei! What's wrong man?" asked Yusuke. He had noticed that the little guy wasn't taking note of Kurama's explanations anymore. Hiei looked at him, "I think we got some company. Just keep acting normally." he said as he sat down. The others imitated him. "Alright, we need to act fast! Kurama and I will go out and try to force them to come in the temple's direction. At this point," he turned toward Yusuke," you and the idiot will have to catch them. Ok?" he asked.

"I'm not an idiot!" said Kuwabara. The others simply nodded.

"We've been spotted! Are we having a little fun or shall we disappear?" asked Celest and quickly and mentally tell her friend the plan of the YYH team, while they were jumping down from their tree.

"Alright, plan Great X/ Marilyn Monroe/ Twister and escape!" said Phoenix as they started running. The Wizard nodded. 'We are having a little fun!' she thought to herself.

"Got them!" shouted Kurama to Hiei. His friend only nodded sharply and started running quicker. *They are following!* thought Celest to Sorcha.

*They are so slow! We could have had time to run this forest five times before they caught us!* answered the Phoenix, telepathically. Hiei ground his teeth together when he heard the mental exchange between the two girls. He was one of the quickest demons of the Makai and proud of it! But he had to admit that they were running fast, always keeping the same distance between them and Kurama and himself. "Surrender! You cannot escape us!" Hiei heard Kurama shouting.

"Oh! I'm shaking!" said the girl running in front of the tall boy, with a mocking tone. She was as tall as Hiei, Kurama's noticed. "And as quick too!" he thought.

They arrived on a big plain near to the temple. Kuwabara and Yusuke were waiting in front of it. Genkai and the two others were waiting on the balcony, more interested in how they were going to handle this than helping them. "Here they are!" shouted Yusuke.

"The big cloud of dust?!" asked Kuwabara.

"Come on!" said the brown-haired boy, starting to run towards the cloud.

"Now!" shouted the girl running in front of Kurama, removing something from her face. And before the two guys had the time to do anything, the two girls seemed to quickly exchange places and started running toward them. *Hey! We are lucky! They are cutes!* he mentally heard before the girl put his bandanna over his eyes. Then, it was only sensations; arms around his neck, his arms around a waist, lips firmly press against his, while a hand kept firmly his bandanna over his eyes. And the impression of spinning on himself. Then, he fell on the ground as the girl pushed him away and heard her laugh. Quickly, he pushed his bandanna away from his eyes and looked around. Kurama was sitting down on the ground a foot away from him, holding his head with a hand, trying to focus on something without the thing spinning around. "What's happened?" Hiei asked.

"I dunno, I felt someone kissing me and after that, I found myself on the ground." answered Kurama. "You?" he asked turning toward Hiei.

"Same." was the flat answer. Mentally, Hiei, feeling his cheeks getting hot, blessed the darkness of the night that was hiding them from the too searching eyes of his friend. Luckily, Kuwabara created a diversion;

"Are you two ok?" he asked. Kurama and Hiei simply nodded. "Do you know what happened?" Kurama asked getting back on his feet.

"Nah! The only thing we saw was a big cloud of dust, running toward us." said Yusuke.

"But, then a hole appears in the sky and two shadows jumped into it. And after it, the cloud disappeared and you were on the ground!" finished Kuwabara. Hiei thanked the cloud now: they had seen nothing of this. 'Kurama is better to hold his mouth shut this time!' he thought to himself.

"A hole in the sky?" Kurama was asking.

"A gateway to another dimension." said the grown version of Koenma, appearing suddenly. Everyone jumped. "Oops..." Koenma said, with a *Sweatdrop* over his head.
