Stage 6: I... Cry

Click here to see Shinji's nightmare

After a nightmare with the same monster in his Eva experience, Shinji awakens in a hospital. Here he sees Rei again and his father talking to her and only glaring at him. Misato comes to pick up Shinji and discusses his lodgings. She tries to get him to live with his father, but after he refuses to try living with anyone, Misato comes up with another place to live.

Again there doesn't see to be much for character building in a non action issue, but this stage is pretty good. Theres a lot of comedy and the story is pretty good. Also the ending of the issue gives great insite into the character of Shinji.

Stage 7: Closing Hearts

click here to see the speed and agility of Pen Pen

Geez, you come to a school after a catastrophy occurs in the city it, and immediately people start to say things about you. Shinji can't keep the secret that he is an Eva pilot from his classmates. Despite the respect of many, one kid, Toji Suzahara wants to beat the crap out of him for accidently injuring his little sister in the battle with the Angel. Add a dislike of Shinji's attitude, and you get a bruised Shinji. Shinji is still willing to pilot the Eva, but he does wonder why.

If there weren't any Angels, all the issues would be as full as the first, fifth, and sixth. There is still a problem with building the supporting cast personalities, but Shinji's keeps getting additions to it which may be more important. Again the comedy seems to be put wherever it can to break up the drama which really helps make this issue and the above mentioned (except 5) work so well.

Stage 8: Shinji's Bad Mood

click here to see a reaction from Misato about Shinji's view on life

Shinji must feel like pissin' everyone off. Misato is angered at how Shinji is so willing to kill himself if needed and Toji still wants a piece. Somehow Shinji continues with the way he acts which seems like it's bound to get him is some really deep s***. If it wasn't for an Angel attack, Toji may have been able to try his own psychological therapy of our hero.

The issue does show how great Toji and Kensuke will acts as a team, and it finally shows that Misato is a deeper character. The conflict between Shinji and Toji does seem like it's played for laughs which is funny, but sort of hurts the story. It maybe worth it for the completion of the 3 stooges.
