This is a page dedicated to some of my favorite anime out there. This really isn't much more than a few pictures and some quick summaries, since I don't have much space here. But at least it'll give you a peek at what it is I'm watching. :) This is by no means a comprehensive list of everything I watch and like, but it does show off some of my favorites that I hope others will watch and enjoy. And yes, I know I've used the Japanese names for some things and the romanized names for others, but... well... I suppose that's one of my quirks. :P If you have any further questions about any of the movies or series here, just mail me at rcraven@erols.com. Also, a wealth of links can be found at the incredible Anime Web Turnpike. Enjoy!
Ai no Tenshi Densetsu Wedding Peach - This is the story of the legendary angel of love, Wedding Peach! Momoko's life was pretty normal until the day she put on her mom's old ring. Rather bizarre things start happening to her and her two friends, Yuri and Hinagiku. Much happy magical girl adventure ensues. This is a wonderful series that I just love. The Techno-Girls did a fantastic job subtitling this. I've only seen the first four episodes, since that's all they've subbed, but so far it looks great! The music's rather fine, as well, though I haven't been able to afford the CDs yet. For more information on the series, check out Hitoshi Doi's Wedding Peach Page. The picture above was provided by my neighbor at http://www.oocities.org/Tokyo/Flats/3474. These love waves are for you!
El-Hazard - The OAV series has got one of my most favorite opening themes of all time. It really sets the mood for a story about an ancient, mystical, far-off land. The ending theme is extremely catchy, too. I actually bought the CD for this one, but only because Pioneer released it domestically. I love all of the music for it, and I can't help liking all of the characters. Even Jinnai. ;) If you haven't seen this yet, do so as soon as possible. You won't regret it. O.K. You might regret it. But then you'd be a silly person. And it wouldn't be my fault at all, so don't blame me. Please? For more information on the series, check out Hitoshi Doi's El-Hazard Page.
Fushigi Yuugi - I've managed to get myself hooked on this particular series. I've only seen the first 16 episodes or so, and I can't wait to see the rest. If only I'd had the stamina, I would've watched the entire series at Otakon '97. Anyhow... this series is great with some awesome music. Tamahome's fighting theme is extremely catchy. Chichiri's vocal peculiarity is catchy, too, unfortunately. ;) Luckily, I don't speak Japanese, so it's not TOO catchy. I don't even know where to begin telling you what the show is about. So I won't. Just go watch it. It's an excellent series and seems to be extremely popular. The entire series has been subtitled by Tomodachi Anime. You can get it directly from them or from numerous distribution sources.
Hime-chan no Ribbon - This is the story of Himeko, her stuffed lion Pokota, and what happens to the two of them when Himeko's counterpart from the Magic World, Erika, comes to Earth and gives her a magic ribbon. This ribbon allows her to transform herself into any person in the Human World. As you can imagine, Himeko manages to get herself into heaps of trouble while using the ribbon. I've watched 12 episodes so far and it's really a cute and interesting series. The voice actress for Hime-chan is perfect and does an incredible job. Though I really don't like the first opening and ending themes for this series, I highly recommend it. Watch it. Just don't call Pokota a cat. ;) All right. Let's get charged up. Ike ike, go go, JUMP!
Kaitou Saint Tail - This is another really cute magical girl story. And when I say magical... I really DO mean magical! Meimi is a cute little school girl who, at night, runs around as the Mysterious Thief Saint Tail! Along with her friend, Sister Seira, Saint Tail helps downtrodden people who have been wronged by wicked, yucky people. She uses all sorts of magical tricks and devices. The art in this series is SO cute. The voices are excellent and the music is absolutely superb. I've come this close to buying the CD a number of times. I almost bought the doll, too, but I decided I'd rather eat. :P Either way, this is a great series that I highly recommend. I've only seen the first four episodes, subtitled by Project Genki. Hopefully they'll do more soon. If you want more information about Saint Tail, check out Hitoshi Doi's Saint Tail Page. The picture above was provided by my neighbor at http://www.oocities.org/Tokyo/Flats/2869/. It's show time!
Kiki's Delivery Service - This is a story about Kiki, a witch, and her black cat, Jiji. Kiki has come of age and must go out on her own and find a city where she can work and hone her skills. What follows is a charming, cute tale with exquisite music and art. It's actually rather slow-moving and the ending is fairly anti-climactic, but I still love it anyhow. In fact, I'd recommend any Studio Ghibli feature that I've seen, including Only Yesterday, Pon Poko, Porco Rosso, Whispers of the Heart, I Can Hear the Sea, Laputa, Nausicaa, and My Neighbor Totoro. You can see why I don't have a separate section for each of these here. There are just so many of them and all of them are beautiful stories. I hope to get the CDs for all of these, as well, since the music is always so perfectly matched with the stories. I think just about everyone could love Kiki. This is certainly one you can show your kids. Which is probably why Disney decided it was O.K. for them to ruin... err... I mean... release it. :P
Neon Genesis Evangelion - If you think this is just a mecha show, you're way off. I've seen ten episodes of this and I still don't quite know everything that's going on. This show has a lot of meaning to it. From what I've read, there's even more to this show than I've managed to figure out so far. The art is superb. The music is great. The opening theme is really jumpy and definitely gets you excited for what's coming up. Not only that, but it manages to get stuck in your head. Just do NOT let the ending theme get stuck in your head. Or you might do something silly like go out and buy all of the CDs, so you can have 20 bazillion different versions of it. :P Watch it. Even if you aren't a big mecha fan. Watch it.
Nurse Angel Ririka SOS - This series is about a cute little girl, her protector, Seiya, and a cute little dog named Herb. O.K. So that's not all it's about. But that'll give you a good start. ;) No, seriously, the show is a magical girl show about a little girl named Ririka who receives a gift on her birthday from a mysterious new student. The gift gives her nifty powers that she uses to fight these evil beasties that happen to show up around the same time as the new student. Coincidence? I think not! And neither does Seiya. Though Seiya's a paranoid guy. I've now seen the entire series and I have to say that it's become one of my favorites. Never before has a series affected me as emotionally as Ririka. I recommend it to anyone. The music's outstanding. I especially love the music that's done in the middle of each episode. For more information on the series, check out Hitoshi Doi's Nurse Angel Ririka Page.
Ranma 1/2 - C'mon... everyone has heard of Ranma 1/2! If you haven't, you must've been sleeping in some sort of cave for several years. Either way... check it out. It's a fun series. I've only seen the first season, two of the movies, and a few of the OAVs, and they're all fun to watch. So sit back and watch a little gender-bending humor. Wheee!
Sailor Moon - O.K. I can't help it. I like Sailor Moon. There. I said it. It's a good series. It's fun. It's cute. The names for all the scouts' powers are cool and nifty. And Tuxedo Mask is very cool. Heck, anyone who can fight while wearing a tuxedo has just got to be cool! Most people have, at least, heard of Sailor Moon. A lot of people have formed rather strong opinions about the show and the characters. But if you find yourself completely clueless about it, you can find some information about the show on Hitoshi Doi's Sailor Moon Page. There are also a ton of Sailor Moon pages out there, but you can find them yourself. :P Trust me, it's not hard.
Tenchi Muyo! - This is an interesting comedy series involving Tenchi, his father, his grandfather, and a whole bunch of females that seem to be rather smitten with Tenchi. Oh. And then there's Ryo-oh-ki. You can't forget her. All in all, it's a fun series. I've only seen the OAV series, a few of the specials, and a movie. But that's O.K. Some day, I'll see it all, I'm sure. The music's rather nifty. I like all of the opening and ending themes. Especially the ending theme for the Pretty Sammy special. Blah blah. Not much more to say. Just watch the show and smile.
Tonari no Totoro - This is another Studio Ghibli release. And this is probably one of the few anime shows or movies that I can bear to watch dubbed without any feelings of guilt or disgust or anything like that. Fox actually did a good job dubbing it. Though I've never seen this movie subtitled, I really think the dub's well done. I'd love to see it subtitled some day, or even in the original Japanese, just for comparison. But for now, the dub is good enough for me. Until Disney ruins it. But anyhow... it's a really cute story and the creatures are cool. Especially the cat bus. You can't hate the cat bus.
