Sailor Moon MIXX Entertainment, Naoko Takeuchi. Copyright 1999. I buy the pocket Mixx which look like regular books only they are comics inside. Each book is about 200 pages printed on thick white paper. (which means the pages aren't likely to rip but the binding is more likely to break if you leave it open too long. I usually don't get comics (especially Marvel) because for some reason people don't write them correctly. The bubbles for speach are just put anywhere they happen to fit and you have to reread it in order to get everyone talking in the correct order. Thank goodness these aren't like that. I found it very easy to read, drawn very well (no superdeformed yet! yay!) and much much better then the show (either version). I loan my books out a lot and I reread them all the time. It's a bit expensive but it's worth it to get them (and I'm really picky about spending money!)I get mine at Amazon because you get a discount and if you order enough of them at one time it pays off. Unless your store has discounts you might want to concider it too. Summary: erm. YOu can just visit my main site if you don't know what Sailor Moon is about. Some differences is that Sailor Moon is a clumsy person who cries. Yeah but they really over did it in the anime. Trust me everyone trips about once every other day and that's about all she does, too. Tuxedo Mask is much more romantic and I don't mean just from an observers POV. He actually acts like her loves her and really does and shows it. And for those of you who hated Chibi-Usa Mamoru Usagi jealousy thing that was going on then you'll like this. It's not about her being Jealous really but more like she is jealous because she wants to be included. She wants Mamoru to say that they will protect Chibi-Usa together rather then just him, not she wants him to protect her not Chibi-Usa or something like that. Sheesh it's just so much better, even if you don't like Sailor Moon the show you'll more then likely like this. |
Romance |
Song of the Waves Author Anne Hampson, Harlequin Presents Copyright 1977. This is one of the saddest books I've ever read. I cried while reading it. It is not a long book only 188 pages but it was jammed with good stuff and wasn't drawn out for more pages. It is a definite must read, if you ever find a copy or see it at the library pick it up because you'll love it. And it can be rated an easy G for general audience it's beautifully written and unlike most has no S E X. Summary: This is about a young woman who finds herself diagnosed with a brain tumor that is positioned so that it cannot be operated on and she will die soon. She sells her house and takes the money to go on a cruise. Her doctor has things set up for her if she is still alive when she gets back and the ships captain knows her condition. While on board she meets a nice woman who is a busy body and wants to find out what everyone does. She meets a man that she falls in love with. There is a mysterious man aboard the ship that seems to think she is someone else entirely, the further on the voyage she goes the more she falls in love with him, but she doesn't want him to fall in love with her because she will die. When she discovers that he is she tells him off trying to push him away and decides to leave the ship. Before she can she collapses from the pain and is going to die there, she wants him to be with her so she doesn't have to be alone. The world around her starts to go dark. (that's all I'm going to tell you. It was soooooo sad though!) You must read this book! |
The Great Escape Amanda Carpenter. copyright 1984. This book is great although I found the cover strangely unappealing. It is another small book only 18 pages but like the other I found that it was great since it wasn't just about adding pages to have a long book. This is an adventure mystery type bok that I just adored. I reread it all the time, the characters are feeling and you get a sense of what they are going through. They grow on you and the writing makes you feel like you are right in the book. Highly recommended! Summary: Dee runs away from her cruel aunt and uncle who only take care of her because she is rich. They hire a private detective to get her back and she has been on the run from him ever since. He finally tracks her down but someone is trying to kill her. She is getting closer and closer to being returned to her aunt and uncle and the chance of escape is looking dimmer. Just when she thinks she can trust the investigator he seems to be in with her aunt and uncle and they are trying to kill her to get her money. It seems that Dee can't trust anyone, even the man she loves. |
Mistress of the Groom Susan Napier copyright 1997. I like this book, I've reread it multiple times. I must say that I think the part I liked the most was when she hit him, although that is the cause of all her problems. Hehe. If you see it you probably want to get it to read. The style of writing is very straight forward that I find a pleasant surprise. It sticks with you, even despite that. It's all about a girl who has this friend that's getting married to this guy that she doesn't want to marry. But she doesn't have the backbone to stop it and tells her friend. So the friend stands up at the wedding and says that they can't get married because the groom was having an affair with her! Of course that starts a whole chain reaction, and the groom isn't going to let her get away with ruining his wedding! |
Game of Love Penny Jordan. Copyright 1992 Harlequin Presents. Oh I love this, the style of writing is SO good that if you start reading it you HAVE to finish. You get drawn in right from the beginning and can't get away from it until you've read the end and even then you start skimming through it again. It also has some unique quotes in it, my favorite being "drawn to him like a lemming to a cliff." hehe! This book is a definite must! A mistake about a night spent in a hotel room with another man makes Tasha's favorite cousin run to her for help. Tasha has to convince people that 'she' was the one in the hotel room, even though it will ruin her reputation and throw her into an entirely too dangerous situation with a distant but close relative of the groom to be! |
Julie Garwood I can't really focus on one book by her. She's written a lot and I've read most. Her style isn't for everyone but I like it. The plot tends to be a little shallow but the excellent characters hold the story strongly together. The heroines are my favorite since they aren't shy little misses or anything like that. There's a lot of funny stuff in the pages that makes it completely worth the read. I hope you give her a try, her books aren't for everyone but you might like them! I know I do. |
Ghost Dancer Fela Dawson Scott. Copyright 1992. This book is very very good and to be quite honest it's the best book dealing with indians/native americans. Other people may argue with me but I don't care. It's very long but every page is interesting, it's not drawn out to become a longer story. I read this all the time and I absolutely love it. I'm not a great western fan but this one was really good. If you ever see this anywhere pick it up because you'll love it! It's all about the Ghost Dancer, who is a pioneer girl who was rescued by the Nahhe Lakohta from a Cheyenne massacre. She is the spiritual leader of the tribe. Of course captain Cameron Wade happens across her and thinks it's not right for a white woman to be living with indians. In their fight together to solve a murder, they also must face a budding love...but can their two worlds meet? |
Reluctant Captive Helen Bianchin. Copyright 1992. Harliquin Presents (a year down under). This was the first romance novel I ever read. And it shaped the way I look at them now. It's very wonderful to read and I like it a lot! of course you should realise that since I've had it around for 8 years. The only thing I would have changed about it is that the little sister needed to get her butt kicked she was incredibly spoiled and got away with it. The thing I really loved about it though was the ending. I reread the ending 5 times right after I finished it because I liked it so much. I've reread the whole book tons of times as well. Summary: A few years ago Kate ran away. She discovered that the man she married she just couldn't live with since they had married for all the wrong reasons. She had been living hidden away from him supporting her sister for years until her sister gets in trouble and her husband takes her into his care, also forcing Kate to go live with him. She couldn't survive in his world before, but now she is older and wiser, this time can they make it work or will she finally be able to leave him, forever? |
Uncertain Destiny Carole Mortimer. Harlequin Presents..copyright 1988. Another favorite, this one has some great writing although the first part is mostly flashback that surprised me when it finally came back to where it started. Even despite that the characterisation was excellent and the story was brilliant. Even if you don't read this I'm going to as soon as I finish this info! Summary:Caroline marries Justin...she later announces she is pregnant and he tells her it isn't hers it's her former boyfriend who happens to be married to her adopted sister. She can't believe he would accuse her since she knows it isn't true until he tells her that he can't have children. No matter how hard she tries she can't seem to convince him that the child is his, worse he refuses to have anything to do with it. She can't let her child live in that kind of atmosphere so she must loose the man she loves because of it. |

Necroscope Brain Lumley. copyright 1990. I read my first book by Brian Lumley in 6th grade. It was DeadSpeak the IV book in the Necroscope series. Since I have also read the first and 3rd entitled the Source. These books are the only ones to take a wonderful aproach to the theory of travel, mobius continuum and everything else. They are the only ones I've ever read that I can't find a fault in the reasoning. Very well written and thought out, these are highly recommended to everyone! Summary: For this purpose and the fact that these books are long in depth and cover multiple people. I will only summarize the first one (breifly) to give you an idea of the books. Harry Keogh is a rather nerdy type person, he goes to a private school and tends to get beat up. There is a girl that he likes and that likes him. He has a secret that he wants to keep that way. Harry Keogh is a Necroscope (not to be confused with a Necromancer) meaning he speaks to the dead. If he lets them he can even let them speak through them. His mother was a psychic and was killed by her husband Harry's Stepfather, because he salted the ice and took her iceskating and she fell in. Harry wants to get him back and with the help of his dead friends he learns to swim for minutes under water in freezing water and how to ice skate. He goes back to his step father and plans to kill him the same way he killed his mother. Unfortunately the man won't go down without a fight but that causes Harry's mother to be able to rise up from her grave and drag him down with her. His step father was a Russian spy who was an ESPer with the ability to sense it in others. He hated the feeling and it caused him to kill those that had it. Later on in life Harry becomes a writer but the english inteligence becomes aware of his power and wants to recruit him. He does and has to fight. Harry goes through many adventures and eventually learns how to use the Mobius continuum to open a 'door' to another place. He fights the Vamphyri and Wamphyri. Each book is very complex and it's very very hard to explain. However if you want to read a book this is one you should definitely try. I highly recommend it! |

Orson Scott Card The Ender Quartet Consists of 4 books (obviously) although a 5th book has recently come out called Ender's Shadow (something I plan on getting and reading really soon!) Each book is very long, I read Ender's Game (the first one) in 9th grade! It was really great and I couldn't wait for The Speaker for the Dead. While I loved Ender's Game I basically liked The Speaker for the Dead and for some reason I couldn't stand Xenocide and for that reason I didn't read Children of the Mind. The first book contains character developement, wonderful plot and just great writing. The second book has him as an adult who just seems to know everything, it deals with nothing for all the training he went through except his guilt at what he's done. There are new faces (a woman and her many children). Each kid is so unalike in personality that it seems entirely too fake. There are now two new alien races (besides the buggers) and each are just this inteligent non-violent peace loving reasonable group (gah!) I wasn't very impressed with this book compared to the first one but it was still pretty good. The third book Xenocide deals with the evil that is the government and how people just follow it. A girl that I absolutely hate was completely worshipped at the end and thought to be so wonderful (that's most of the reason why I hate this book nothing really changed!) Although it still had the great writing, all the characters left something to be desired in their personality, the constant fight between what they think is right and wrong and the struggle to keep their humanity and not become monsters). Because of the style the third book was written in I never read Children of the Mind however I do own it. Ender's Shadow appears to go back to his original style of writing and I think will be very very good. Summary: A race of aliens called the buggers attacks the earth and destroys so many people the government sets up a military for child geniuses to prepare for another attack. Ender Wiggin is one of the children they push to make him lead the army. He eventually leads an army to the bugger home planet and destroys them. Later the humans colonise the bugger home world and he speaks with the dead queen who tells him about how she had bred queens and if they turned out bad she killed them, trying to make her race peace loving and that they had no intention of going back to earth (so they destroyed them for no reason) Ender finds one of the queens eggs and takes it to a world where it can survive. He also writes a book called Speaker for the Dead which is about the queen and turns humans against him (now that he's destroyed the threat against them he's a threat) he is banned from earth and travels with his sister. In the next book he settles on one planet where his sister is and she is married to someone. A new race called Piggies (for short) is discovered Andrew gets a call for a speaker for the dead and feels something for the girl that placed it. He goes to the planet which takes years (he also discovered another new race in Jane who is a sentient machine) he goes there falls in love with the girl who is now an adult and her children. Tells the horrible truth and finds a home for the queen. The next book deals with the government trying to destroy the planet (I didn't like it, maybe other's did but not me) Never read the fourth and I have as yet to read Ender's Shadow But I hope to soon! I highly recommend the first book, and the second one for the sequel you may even want to read the third book as a closing and possibly the fourth. I was perfectly happy ending it at the third though. I may also say that I've reread Ender's Game multiple times and I've also reread Speaker for the Dead (I just avoid Xenocide is all). |
STAR WARS Young Jedi Knights Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta. copyright 1998. There are a bunch of these books all going in a sequence I have them all. The only one's I don't recommend are the last three since they introduced a new girl that I didn't like and most other people who have been following the books didn't like her either. The other's are excellent IMHO. There will be no more books in this series since it will now run into the sequel to Star Wars (yes besides the Prequel there is also a sequel.) It deals with Jacen, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Lowbacca and a few others as well as Han Leia Luke Chewbacca and Anakin <--the younger. I read most Star Wars books and found these very very good. The authors also have different Star Wars books out as well. Summary: There is a lot to deal with basically it's about Han and Leia's children the twins Jacen and Jaina as they go through training to become Jedi under their Uncle Luke. They meet new friends and enemies while learning the ways of the force. |
Star Wars George Lucas. Copyright 1976. This is the original from the movie. What I really want is The Adventures of Luke Skywalker...I've never SEEN this book but Star Wars is from it...so it must exist right? This one has pictures from the movie in the center but it's 220 pages long. I've only read about half of it though. It's Star Wars what can I say? There is no summary needed. It would be Episode IV A New Hope if you were familiar (or unfamiliar even) with the Star Wars Universe. |
The Courtship of Princess Leia Dave Wolverton. Copyright 1994-95. I love this book it has lots of comedy in it and I found myself singing the song weeks after I'd finished it. hehe. Basically its about Princess Leia going to marry a Prince of the Hapes system (for the young Jedi Knight people this would be Tenel Ka's father) to better the alliance. Han doesn't like the idea and kidnaps her. C3p0 is trying to help him and even says that the Solo's were once the rulers of Corillia (if I have my books in correct order that is!). Luke joins the Prince in searching for them and they wind up on a planet of Witches! One of them claims Luke as her husband...not to mention the Prince himself as well! |
The Truce at Bakura Kathy Tyers. Copyright 1994. This was the FIRST Star Wars book I got. it takes place directly after The Return of the Jedi and is great! It's set directly after the Return of the Jedi, about a reptilian race that is attacking a planet..it's known for being loyal to the Empire but the alliance needs supporters and they hope to gain them...but the reptilian race is enslaving people into machines..with the help of a native of Tatioone...who can control the force?? |
Fiction |
Winter of Fire Sherryl Jordan. Copyright 1992. This book says fiction. I personally would have put it in science fiction or fantasy but hey, who am I to argue? I had mixxed feelings through this book, I can't say it went slow because it didn't there were just parts in it that I personally didn't like, however by the time I reached the end I was so in love with this book. It's been a while since I've read it. Rather like the Giver it's something you read once and don't really read again. The story sticks with you though and you'll love it. Summary: It's about Elsha who is a slave and marked as one. She gets chosen to become a handmaiden to the firelord, but has to face prejudice of the people who don't think slaves should be able to. She has a strong spirit as well as visions that will help her, and discover the mistery behind her own people. |

Diadem By John Peel. Released in 1997. Diadem is a series book there are 6 of them. While the age group is decidedly young these books appeal to me for their puzzle solving and characterisation. The plot is quite similar to something that CLAMP would do in that the ending is not what was expected. I had a friend that read them along with me and we both wanted some more to come out. The ending was left open for a sequel but whether or not one will come out I don't know. Once you get started on the books you'll want to finish them. However the question is whether or not you want to start at all. I don't regret buying them or reading them but they aren't the books that you read over and over again. A short summary: The diadem is something like our solar system, only with magic. The outer levels (which you could concider Pluto to be) is where the least level magic is. It's practically non existant. There are many worlds on the outer rim of the Diadem one of them being earth. Three people from three different planets on the outer rim are kidnapped and forced to the second level in of the rim. There they find out about their magic since it increases the further in they go. At each new level their magic increases and they face great foes in their search for the center. Meeting new enemies and new friends. Each new world holds a key to the puzzle. One that they have to solve or they can never get home. When they reach the center they find out a horrible secret. The three rulers of the diadem were evil, they were overthrown by someone else and he discovered the secret. When you ruled someone had to be in the center. The three were fine since two could leave. The one that overthrew them created a magical diadem and he needed to put them inside their planet symbols so that he could leave the center. They stop him from doing so and discover the original three rulers. It's their future selves. They had been reborn in a way and the three evil ones had left clues forcing them to become friends so that they WEREN'T overthrown in the first place. The trio knows that their future selves are evil and don't want to conform to their plans they manage to trap the ruler's powers in the planets which compleats the diadem and allows them to leave. Really confusing. I recommend reading it to understand it better. |
Tamora Pierce The Song of the Lioness Quartet original copyright 1983 rereleased in 1997 (thanks to me and my friends who requested it at every book store we walked into!) I can't say enough about these books. I was first introduced to them in 7th grade by my friend. The four books cover the adventures of a girl named Alanna who was born with the gift and wanted only to be a knight. The first book could well be read by a very young 8-12 age audience as well as all older ages but the rest of the books following her increase in age is more for an older audience. (don't worry it's not like a romance novel in that respect!) I absolutely loved the 2nd book and the first the third I found very good, the third left a little to be desired from the second (in my opinion) as well as the fourth but they were still good. Showing that Alanna has to come around full circle in order to move ahead in life. I recommend this book to everyone! Summary The first book has young Alanna and her identical twin brother. One wants to be a night the other wants to be a magician. Switching places Alanna becomes Alan and goes to the castle to be a knight. With plenty of practise and some help from the King of Theives. Alanna learns how to defend herself in hand to hand combat and how to use a sword. A terrible sickness strikes the palace and the prince Alanna must reveal that she has the gift to save the prince. She succeeded in pulling him back from death and because of the sickness the Kings brother Duke Roger a powerful magician comes to teach them magic and how to use their gift. Surprisingly the prince is also in the group, Alanna doesn't trust Roger but feels that she shouldn't think that way. Alanna picks up a magical sword and also goes to the black city where the Prince learns she is really a female. Working together they defeat the demons in the city and the Prince asks Alanna to be his squire. In book two Alanna is a squire working towards Knighthood. She slowly realises that Roger is evil and trying to take out the royal family so that he can rule. She realises he is also the cause of the sickness that almost killed the prince. Someone is also trying to kill her. She finds a cat that can talk named faithful and the Great Goddess gives her a crystal that allows her to see magic and the color of it (her own color is purple). She falls in love with the prince and eventually gets her knighthood. Her shield is a lioness Rampant given to her by her brother who has become a powerful magician. She finally gets evidence against Roger and takes it to the King they have a duel and her shirt is cut open revealing that she is a girl. The duel continues, but when the Duke tries using magic to kill the royal family Alanna kills him. After it is over with she takes of to travel as a knight. In the third book she goes to one of the tribes in the desert and becomes a shaman because the other one was evil. She has to teach three kids how to use their gift so that they can take over for her. Her sword broke against the power of an evil sword and she has to use the evil one but it's will is very strong. One of the kids decides to take it and become powerful but the power in the sword consumes him and he dies. The other two girls train to become shaman. the prince comes and visits her and wants to marry her but Alanna doesn't think he should since she is mearly a knight. After a fight he leaves and in anger starts dating a princess from an island. alanna also leaves to go the King of Theives where she finds love again. In the fourth and final book Alanna travels to the top of the world to get a stone for the royal family she finally gets it and when she gets back she finds out that the king and queen both died and the prince is now ruling but the stone would be perfect for his coronation. They all go back and discover that her brother has brought back Roger from the dead only without his magic. Her own brother looks as if he is dying his color (purple) now turning a dried blood red color. A healer is brought in and they put some of his magic into his sister. During the coronation the prince is getting crowned and the enemy attacks. Roger is found to have stored his magic into her brother and was opening a gate that would suck out magic. He takes back the magic from her brother. While she gives all her magic to the king. Her brother dies her cat dies Roger dies Liam (who she met at the roof of the world) dies as well. Her sword gets buried in the center of the now blackened gate and she realises that the King of Theives is the one she really and truely loves. He in turn gets land from the King and gets a bit more respectable. |
The Immortals Quartet One of the more recent Tamora Pierce books, these books I didn't like as well as the song of the lioness quartet. They are still good but they are lacking the growing emotional quality of the characters and the plot twists and turns that I loved in the first quartet. Alanna and George make a guest appearance in these books as well. They were still pretty good just not her best piece of work. Summary: These books are about a young girl who is very powerful with wild magic and is learning the art, she needs her powers in time to stop the immortal monsters from taking over the world and destroying everything. I still would recommend these books since they are great writing they are just not as good as the Song of the Lioness Quartet. |
The DarkAngel Trilogy Meredith Ann Pierce I read these books in 6th grade. It was teh first book to make me cry. I owned all three books together in one hardcover. Since then I've reread it many many times but I loaned it to my friend and she moved and took it with her (in a theory she might have moved to keep the book hehe!)The ending was so sad I just coldn't believe it! I highly highly highly recommend this book to everyone. On this whole page it's the best book you will read of them all! Summary: First book The Darkangel A servant girl named Aerial is with her mistress on a hill picking flowers when a darkangel (a vampire) steals her mistress. aerial fights him but barely and can't even stand up to him really.
