FIRST STRIKE

CHAPTER 4: POWERFUL ODOR

After about 45 minutes of recuperating, each of us took showers before making our way back. Our stomachs started raging and we decided, hell, it's time to make a stop at Lenny's. Okay, it's really Denny's but who cares? In any case, we saw the same guys from San Francisco over there. They were pretty cool and we talked a little anime. When we were talking about how cool some anime are, a lone otaku couldn't help getting in our conversation by saying how bad of a dub Ranma 1/2 was. Ranma 1/2 was considered by many (even those "hardcore anime fans") as one of the best dubbed anime around. We didn't see where he got that opinion but we got into a little sub-dub debate. Finally, after finishing our food, we decided to go back to the con where San Jose's own version of a trivia contest awaits. (By the way, we're holding our own anime trivia contest in Anime Expo '99 so please go to that one if you are hitting A X. Thanks!)

Loser B chillin' at Lenny's

The anime trivia contest was based on the "You Don't Know Jack" computer game series. Well, the questions did get us thinking... forever. They were IMPOSSIBLE! Luckily, they had multiple choice but what if they weren't?! I mean, they were pretty much guesses most of the way and we do watch quite a lot of anime (okay, maybe not compared to the "true anime fans" but we do have other interests and hobbies, ya know). We decided to be the biggest hecklers in the audience. Also, the prizes (although later the host told me that they were going to have REAL prizes) ranged from shower caps to soap. Evil Master claimed that the shower cap wouldn't fit his head...

Countless jokes and screams of "Urd" went non-stop from the Rage. Finally, the host got a little fed up and chose Evil Master to get up to the stage and join the contest. Of course, they didn't like him so they gave him -10,000 "dollars".

In any case, to the two anime trivia contests that we went to, hardly anyone reached a positive score. More questions were avoided than answered. I mean, I wouldn't know about Japanese voice-actresses' wedding and birth dates! I wouldn't know how many times Akane said, "Baka!" in a Ranma episode!

We saw more people dress up. They were all ready to line up in the Dealer's room as well. Then later on, we went to the opening introductions (which was around 7:30 at night) of the Fanimé Con. Some weird guy impersonated the Rock from WWF fame. It's not even close. And he got a rise from the crowd which amazed me even more. He wasn't even that great. We called him the "Mock"...

We also participated in video game contests (Soul Calibur, Street Fighter Zero [Alpha] 3, Beatmania, and Gran Turismo). But, for some reason, something wasn't quite right in the air. And it certainly wasn't one of us because we just took showers. Hmmm...

Along with the showing off of
powerful B.O. was the showing off of BeatMania for the PS.

I went to the Dealer's room and there were a decent amount of merchandise. However, the air was the same as in the video game room. Ouch.

The Pokémon Craze begins!

It wasn't over. We went to the karaoke room and it continued on...

Actually, it would continue on the rest of the con...
