EOC- Yggdrasil : the Network

  • the network:  the net...
  • the network:  and the web

the Yggdrasil Network is an extremely complex creature. A very uncomplete descritpion of its structure would take up a five hundred pages essay and I'm not even sure if you would like to read it. Personally I don't enjoy technical details. This is matter of the System Maintainer and Debugger.
On the other hand, there are so many things I'm not allowed to disclose to you that the essay would fit so many holes that mices could mix it for the moon.

What I will offer you then is a very very basic description of the basics of Yggdrasil Net System.

Yggdrasil Net isn't so different from the Internet system. One main difference is that it's not enabled to unify different codes and features under one 'universal' code (html or java), but it works on a single primary coding itself, and via a indipendent and common Operative System, whose major advantage is that it is compatible in itself to any form of language, included other known OS languages.

The Operative System was created by the Master and is currently version 12.x0, last modified in late December 1998 (EMT) by Yggdrasil System Debugger.

The Internal Devices comprehend: hardware components and software components.

Hardware components are: system blocks, system lines (the stations and railways for communication), archives servers (the Main DataBank, under the control of Yggdrasil Mantainer and Yggdrasil System Office, and Secondary, belonging each to one Office, may be partially public and partially keylocked).

Software components are: the Goddesses/Demons themselves, and other utilities provided by either each Goddess/Demon  or by System Maintainer/Debugger.

In order to access the World Wide Web (an easy and fancy way to get in touch with the Planet) we had to set up what you would call an Internet Service Provider within Yggdrasil. This device is completely cut-off from the rest of the System, in order to prevent any form of external contamination. When an Office gains connection through the ISP the Office itself accepts to be momentarily closed off the System. In other words while the Office is in online mode on the Planet Web, it will result in offline mode in the Yggdrasil System.

Earth Otasuke Center has its own ISP, due to the particular function of this Office, and its frequent online mode status. In this case, theEOC  ISP will  not allow any loss of information or dispersion of sensitive data from the EOC itself thanks to a severe protection system that needs the Earth Goddess' code to be 'open'.

As browser we use netscape (4.05+ version usually), in a compumagically version improved and adapted by the System Debugger (call it 'Skuldscape').

The ISP system will allow downloading and uploading of data, but we don't have a mail server. Would be pretty useless though, since we have plenty of Internal/external Communication Devices, but a mail server would serve (sorry for the pun) only for External Not-Members Communication. And we can handle this through a local (Earth) POP/SMTP server. That's why, in other words, we use Geocities mail account (it's free, thank you).

Another reason is that we cannot dispose of a server of our own right now. This Website can and is not linked to Yggdrasil in any way (if not for content), and so shall be.
