Moving to a restaurant & seated across the table from each other, Asakawa tells Yoshino "So tell me, what do we have to do to survive this? Don't worry, no matter what it is I won't be surprised. At the very least, I don't want you to feel that it would be better if I were to die not knowing." With trepidation, Yoshino finally takes a few sheets of paper from her bag & shows it to Asakawa, not saying a word. Picking a sheet up, Asakawa asks "What's this?" With despair in her eyes, Yoshino answers "What we have to do in order to save ourselves. The destruction of mankind." Asakawa looks at her "What do you mean?" "The continuation of the message in the video goes like this: A spell has been cast on you. 13 days at this moment, you will die. There is only one way to survive. In other words, show this video to two other people that haven't seen it yet. The person who shows the video will then be saved. One person shows it to two people, two to four, four to eight. The people who would have seen the video gradually increases. But there is a limit to the number of people around. There will come a time when this limit is reached. At the very end there will be no one who hasn't seen it to show the video to. Those people will die." Pointing to her sketch on the paper, Yoshino continues "These people will never watch the video. That's because they know that they'll never find anyone to show the video to. So the ones to die will be these people." Yoshino points to another section of her calculation, adding "Calculating the number, it will be equivalent to 25 percent. With only a single video tape, there is only one way to cause one in every four people to die. Sadako knows that, knows just what exactly does she want us to do." Thinking, Asakawa replies "I'm afraid I think you're wrong." Yoshino stares at him in surprise. Taking a sip of his coffee, Asakawa explains "Well, why did my niece & her friends all die? One of them showed it to the other three. Then why did they all die?" Yoshino struggles for an answer "That's because......" "Not only that. We still don't know if that message warning of one in four people dying in this world is really from Sadako. I don't know what Takayama's told you, but I have yet to meet Sadako herself. These words are from that girl at the theatrical company. I don't know if she really possessed by Sadako or not so this doesn't tell us anything for sure. In any case, there are still a lot of things we have to research on. What we know is still very little." Comforted, Yoshino replies with a weak smile "Alright."
Mai pushes Takayama's head towards the long nail protruding from the wall. Images of a little girl covered in blood flash in Takayama's mind. Suddenly, he hears a crunch. With a gasp & spinning around, he sees the nail pierced through Mai's hand "Mai!" Grabbing her hand, he pulls it away from the nail & starts to suck on the wound, blood dripping from his mouth. Staring at him wordlessly, tears start rolling down Mai's cheeks......
Miyashita comes running down the hallway & rushes into the isolation room "What's wrong?" A colleague replies "He's regained consciousness." Miyashita looks at their colleague lying motionless in bed "What?!" "The fatality rate for smallpox should be over 90%." "That's correct." "I wonder if it's a sign he's improving." "Can he hear us?" "Yes, a little."
(-= CJ =- While the fatality rate of smallpox varies according to the nature of attack, the case fatality rate is actually around 30%.)
In the lab, Nagao says "Then moving him to the Diseases Ward would be better." Miyashita replies "Wait a minute, there's a possibility that this was man made." "Man made?" "If it was natural, something like small pox would not be cured so easily." "You still suspect that there's someone here that would do something that stupid?!" "It's not what I suspect but the fact is someone stole those cell cultures!" "You're saying that Aoyama-kun contracted small pox in this facility?!" "I checked up on him & what he did last few days. I found out that a week ago, he had a vaccination for influenza." "& who instructed him to do that?" "Ogaki-sensei from the 2nd Surgical Department." Nagao stares at her in shock "Ogaki?"
Wearily, Asakawa returns home. Checking in on Yoichi, he hears him call out "Papa!" "Did I wake you?" Pulling a book out from under the covers, Yoichi tells him "Read this to me." "Hey, what time do you think it is?" Yoichi puts his finger to his lips "Shhhhh!" Asakawa glances at his mother sleeping on the floor next to Yoichi. Yoichi explains "Grandma said the words were too small so she couldn't read to me." "I see, then I'll read just a little." Tucking in Yoichi, Asakawa starts to read to him......
there's only 6 days left
if what Yoshino says is true
then in order to save this child
I have to show the video to someone
but is it just showing the video to someone?
Just what exactly does Sadako want us to do?
Asakawa visits the theatrical company again. Entering the rehearsal hall, Asakawa asks the members "Excuse me, is Arima-san here?" The actors replie "He hasn't arrived yet. We've called his home but no one's answered. We're in a fix right now." "Do you know where Arima lives?"
Asakawa goes to Arima's home. Pressing the bell at the gate, Asakawa speaks into the intercom "Arima-san, it's Asakawa." Not getting a response, Asakawa turns to leave. From an upstairs window, Arima looks out to see Asakawa walking away......
From his car Asakawa makes a call to Miyashita "Show it to two other people?" "Yes. If it really is Sadako's curse that one in four people in this world is to die, then that is possibly one of the ways to do it." "But the one who said that one in four people will die is that girl from the theatrical group, Yagi, isn't it?" "Yesterday, she said something that happened 32 years ago. That was way before she was born." "Will you bring Yagi in? It sounds like she's losing her sense of reality. It's just for simple hypnosis treatment. We'll be able to find out whether Sadako's really inside her whether she thinks she's Sadako." "Then we'll know where Sadako is too." "Well, if Sadako really is something to be that afraid of......." Asakawa puts the car in gear & heads for Yagi's home.....
Getting out of the car, he knocks on the door Yagi's front door. The door opens & a very pale looking Yagi appears "Asakawa-san." "Are you alright? You don't look too good." Sliding down onto the foyer, she replies "I haven't been feeling too well since yesterday....." Asakawa puts his hand on her forehead "You've got a really high fever." Behind him, the door suddenly slams shut.......
With Yagi in the passenger seat, Asakawa starts driving. Yagi mutters "I don't remember what happened yesterday. I think my friends sent me home." Asakawa assures her "Don't worry. I'll take you to the hospital & friend will do an examination on you." "I'm sorry." Yagi glances in the rearview mirror & sees a woman dressed in white, long hair covering her face, sitting in the back seat. Turning around & looking in the back seat however, she sees no one there. Asakawa asks "What's wrong?" "Ah, nothing." They drive along & suddenly, a strange expression comes across Yagi's face. She tells Asakawa "Turn at the next light, it's a short cut. I use it a lot when I'm in a hurry." Asakawa does as he's told & when the roads don't look right to him, asks "Are you sure this is the right way?" "Yes. The main road will be just up ahead." As they travel along further into what appears to be suburbs & woods, Asakawa asks again "Are you sure this is a short cut?" Yagi suddenly starts laughing in a low eerie voice. Asakawa glances at her in shock & in the next instant, Yagi attacks him with a vengeance. With her hands around his neck against the seat, Asakawa struggles to reach for the brakes. With a extra effort, Asakawa manages to shove Yagi away from him & slams on the brakes. The car screeches to a halt as Yagi passes out. Staring at Yagi for a moment, Asakawa then tries to start the car again but the engine refuses to ignite. Unfastening his seat belt, Asakawa gets out & opens the hood of the car. Checking it & slamming it down, he notices Yagi's disappeared from the passenger seat. Surprised, Asakawa opens the door & Yagi suddenly sits upright, shocking him. Asakawa starts running into the woods as Yagi comes after him. Tripping, Yagi catches up with him & put her hands around his neck, squeezing it with all her might. Just as suddenly, rain starts falling from the sky & Yagi reaches for her head in a panic, falling onto the ground, writhing in pain, moaning & screaming before passing out.......
In a hospital ward, Yagi remains unconscious, hands bound to the side of the bed. Miyashita assures Asakawa "Physically she's fine. As long as she gets some rest, she'll be alright. It does appear that she's suffered a great shock mentally." Asakawa tells her "Sadako appeared just now. Something's happening to this girl. You should be careful too." Miyashita nods......
At work, Kawamura calls out "Yoshino-san!" Hurriedly, Yoshino hides the paper she was writing something on "What is it?" Kawamura dumps a stack of files & documents on her desk "What do you mean 'what is it?' You asked me to find out when people first head Matsuzaki Nao's song. Isn't it already in that radio survey?" Yoshino mutters "Ah, thanks." Putting the files aside, Yoshino turns her attention back to the paper she was working on. On it she's written on who to show the video to "Senpai, Yoichi-kun, me....." With a sigh, Yoshido mutters "What am I thinking of?!" Her colleagues suddenly come up & grab the paper from her "What are you doing? Let us see!"
The ex-detective Kashiwada gives a sinister grin as he enters Meiwa University. Paying Takayama a visit, Kashiwada says "The case regarding Professor Kaneda still hasn't been resolved. It's a problem." Takayama, as usual, unruffled, replies "Has there been any new discoveries?" "No, not particularly. I heard that the investigators talking that it might have been the power of suggestion that killed him. Then again, rather than African sorcery & curses, you use fear & the power of suggestion to kill." "If it satisfies you to think that, it's fine with me. Killing someone by the power of suggestion isn't considered a crime." "But then, there's just one thing that doesn't make sense to me. Around Kaneda's neck were signs of being strangled like this." Kashiwada puts his hands around Takayama's as an example. Takayama smirks "That can easily be explained by the power of suggestion. If a person is told that he has received an injury under hypnosis, when he recalls that later, the wounds will naturally appear on his body. You can check on that, it is a true fact." 'However it isn't the signs of strangulation that I am curious about. It is the fingerprints that were left behind. If he really was killed by the power of suggestion, why would there be fingerprints?" "Those fingerprints were definitely not mine." Kashiwada growls "Who said they were yours? The fingerprints left behind were your sister's, Takano Mai-san." Takayama turns around & stares at him.......
In a ward with long two row of empty beds on either side, Yagi lies asleep on one of them, her hands strapped to the sides of the bed. Silently, a man in a long white coat walks in, slipping on rubber gloves as he approaches her. Grabbing a pillow, he holds it down onto Yagi, suffocating her as she struggles. The door suddenly opens & the man, wearing a mask, looks up & sees Asakawa walk in. Asakawa stares at him "What are you doing?!" When the man tries to escape, Asakawa grabs a hold of him, screaming for help "Somebody! Help!" As the two men struggle, neither notices that a strange gleam appearing in Yagi's eyes & with mysterious power, breaks free of her bonds. The mask falls off the man's face & Asakawa exclaims in shock "Arima-san!" Two security guards come running in, Miyashita right behind them. Medical equipment fall onto the floor with a clash. Looking up, they see Yagi in a trance, walking towards them, laughing sinisterly. Arima falls to his knees "Sadako!" The two security guards run up to her but with a single swipe of her hand, both men go flying. Asakawa & Miyashita stare at her, stunned speechless. On his knees, Arima begs "I'm sorry! Forgive me! Forgive me!" Asakawa looks at Arima & in the next moment, Yagi's eyes roll backwards & she collapses onto the floor. Asakawa, as if used to this occurrence, approaches Yagi to help her up. In an instant, Yagi whips her head around & stares at him "I no longer have any use for this body." Asakawa looks shocked as Yagi goes limp......
In an empty lecture theatre, Asakawa asks "Please tell me, what happened 32 years ago?" When Arima remains stubbornly silent, Asakawa takes out a copy of the newspaper article regarding the death of the bank employee, placing it in front of Arima "It's this, isn't it." Both men recall Yagi in one of her trances, telling Arima "32 years ago on this very day, you killed someone! You used me!" Asakawa presses urgently "We need to know for sure if that girl Yagi really has been possessed by Sakako." Finally, Arima speaks "There is no doubt that Ikuma Sadako had special powers no one else had. She hid that from everyone but I found out about it accidentally. That day 32 years ago, I realized that I had forgotten something & returned to the rehearsal hall. Sadako was watching TV all alone. When I picked up my stuff & was about to leave, I noticed something unbelievable." Arima recalls Sadako watching the TV set on with the end of the power cord lying on the floor. Asakawa says "The power cord from the TV wasn't plugged in so there was no electric source." "Yes. But the TV was on. That was the moment I knew that she had special powers. Time passed. 32 years ago at this time, we were all very poor, all of us burdened with debts. I guess it was ironic. Somehow I found out about the escape route that an employee intended to take after robbing the bank. We planned to attack that bank employee. In exchange for keeping her special powers a secret, I asked her to show me her ability. Of course she had no idea of our plans to go harm the employee & rob him." Arima recalls the day the falling wooden polls crashing onto the fleeing bank employee & robbing him with his partners. "We found out from the newspapers the next day that he died. When Sadako found out, she got upset & became extremely depressed." Asakawa continues "After that, she suddenly eloped with one of the other members." Arima nods "Yes." "Who knew about that incident?" "Only Sadako & myself. There was no one else around that day we spoke. Without a doubt, that was Ikuma Sadako." Asakawa stares at Arima, a frown creasing his brows....
At the Musashino Medical University, Miyashita informs Asakawa "We've spoken to Yagi-san, she even cooperated with us & underwent hypnosis treatment. But, we found nothing. Perhaps her condition was just a result of fear & nervousous." "But you saw how she tackled the two men as well." "Hmmm, in any case let's keep her under observation," replies Miyashita, checking on some medical equipment. With a tired sigh, Asakawa mutters "Sadako's left her body. But we know something of what's in her heart...." At that moment, a doctor enters the lab looking for Miyashita "sensei..." They confer momentarily with Miyashita expressing surprise at the news & telling the doctor "I'll be right there." When the doctor leaves, Asakawa asks "What's wrong?" Puzzled, Miyashita replies "It appears that poison's been administered into Yagi's intravenous drip. It's fortunate that this was quickly discovered but...." "Did Arima go to that extent?" "But other than specialist doctors, no one can get their hands on that poison." "Then, there is someone else other than Arima that is targeting Yagi?" "I don't know." "But no one else knows that she's been admitted into this hospital." "I'm sorry, I've got to go...." Miyashita heads out of the lab, leaving Asakawa with more questions.....
Driving to the Meiwa University, Asakawa pays a visit to Takayama. Striding into Takayama's office, Asakawa announces "Someone's after the girl that Sadako had possessed. Other than the two of us, do you know of anyone else who would be after Sadako?" Takayama, as smooth as ever, replies unhurriedly "No. Why do you ask?" When Asakawa doesn't replie, Takayama adds "So? What happened to Sadako?" Asakawa reluctantly adds "She's disappeared." Taking a seat at his desk, a thought flickers across Takayama's mind as he digests the news before the stony expression returns. Asakawa approaches him "We found a clue." Takayama closes his eyes "So you already know the answer." "Yes. I heard about it from Yoshino. She came to a conclusion taking the cue from you." "So what did she say?" "If one shows the video to two other people within 13 days, one will be saved." "That is correct." "It's not. That does not explain certain things. " Asakawa walks to the window "Besides, we don't have any proof that those were the words of Sadako." "That is Sadako. You've seen her." "Then why did all four people die in the beginning? Yoshino's conclusion cannot explain that." "You've left out one very important thing." Asakawa turns around & stares at Takayama, who adds "It's not enough to just show the video tape. 'Unu wa da-sen, yogora wo ageru'. It's the message from the video. 'You will give birth to a baby next year'. The important thing is giving birth to a baby. That's to say, to produce an identical copy of oneself. With reproduction, hatred can then increase." Asakawa asks "You're saying that the video has to be copied?" Takayama, walking to an adjoining room, replies "Yes. Within 13 days after watching the video, one has to make two copies of the video tape & show it to other people." Asakawa follows Takayama into the next room to find him explaining on a whiteboard "Hatred giving birth to hatred. If one does that, the video tapes will multiply." Drawing a pyramid shaped figure, Takayama adds "If this represents the entire population, this layer at the bottom represents the last group of people. These people will not have anyone to show the video to so will not watch the video. So the ones to day will be the second to last group of people." Takayama colors in the second band of the pyramid "In other words, 'n' number of people. The number of these people can be represented by this formula." On the board, Takayama writes 2n-1. Asakawa watches Takayama intently as he continues "Calculating the figure...." Scribbling the calculations on the board, Takamaya comes up with the figure 1/4. Takayama coolly tells Asakawa "It works out to one quarter. That's to say, the people who will die will account for one fourth of the entire population, meaning one in four people in the world will die. Of course, this is assuming these people here right at the bottom do act as expected. But in reality, it would be a bigger disaster than this." "What if it's stopped along the way?" Takayama looks back at the whiteboard "How many I wonder. But no matter how one looks at it, or analyses it, there's only one result. That is, the answer to finding out how hatred is proliferated. It's using the love of mankind. As long as there are people who will not watch their love ones die, the tape will not be multiplied. But there will be an end. When it reaches to these people here, they will know that they are the one in four people that will die. They will no longer believe in love. Hatred will rule the world. That is Sadako's real intention. So what are you going to do? & one more thing, you've only made one copy of the video to show to me. In order to be saved, you need to make one more. In order to save your son you have show it to another two people." Asakawa, expressions of anger, resignation appearing on his face at different times, asks "Why didn't you tell me this in the first place? Why did you tell Yoshino instead? Do you enjoy hurting people that much?" "No. If I had told you what would you have done? You would have tormented over it by yourself right to the very last moment & the game would end." Unable to find a response, Asakawa stares at the intensity in Takayama's eyes, none the closer to figuring out the young man's true thoughts.....
Returning to his car, Asakawa gets a phone call "Hello." "It's Yoshino. Have you found out anything?" Asakawa doesn't answer as he starts backing up the car. Yoshino listens to the silence "senpai? So that was the answer after all."
At a restaurant, Yoshino looks at Asakawa across the table "I see. So we have to make copies. I have been thinking about it since then." Taking some notes from her bag, she shows it to him "Take a look at this. First of all, to show the tape to a fourth of the population, how many tapes would it take? 2 to the power of 26 would be 67,108,864. 2 to the power of 27 would be 134,217,728. In other words, after the 26th copy, it would reach this band over here. If dubbing were left to the last moment on the 13th day, the time it takes to get to this stage would be 13 days by 26 times, making it 338 days. So, that would be about a year later. Until that time, no one will know about it. In the meantime, I've been thinking about who we can show the video tapes to in order to save you, Yoichi & myself. It's been tough but I've come up with something." Asakawa looks at her without expression "Are you serious? You've spent the entire day calculating how many people you're going to sacrifice in order to save yourself?" Without hesitation, Yoshino replies "Yes. I've spend the entire day calculating." "Stop this nonsense! Just to save yourself?!" "I am not!" "You are!" "But there's still a year. There's still time to find the answer...." "Are you that optimistic? What if news leaks out? & what it an answer can't be found within the year? I know what you're thinking. The tape becomes someone else's problem. No matter who dies a year later, you'll go on living, pretending nothing's happened." "But senpai, can you just stand by & watch Yoichi die?" "I am going to look for Sadako. As soon as I find her I'm going to get her to stop this foolishness." "What if you can't find Sadako?! What if you can't break the curse?! You have to find the answer in within five days! Do you think I liked doing this?! When I was troubled over this, did you even say anything encouraging?! Is there even anything else that I can do?!" "So because of this you're willing to sacrifice just anyone?" Asakawa stares at her with disappointment, gets to his feet & walks out of the restaurant. Left alone, Yoshino buries her face in her hands, & starts to cry.....
Getting into his car, Asakawa takes Yoichi's toy train from the dashboard & plays with it, turning it about in his hands......
In the quietness of the night, Yoshino slowly heads towards the building where Takayama's office is. At the door, her footsteps halts & with a sigh, changes her mind, turns around & starts walking away. A hand reaches out & grabs her shoulder, startling her. From behind a pillar, Takayama stares at her "What are you doing here at this time of the night?" Quietly, Yoshino replies haltingly "I don't know what to do. Is it better for us to just die like that? It's cowardly to think of just saving ourselves, isn't it. Where is Sadako? You know something, don't you?!" Without a word, Takayama turns & starts striding off. Yoshino, stops him "Wait! Why are you keeping silent?! Are you happy to see us all suffering? 'Serves us right!', is that what you're thinking?! Say something!!" Takayama suddenly sniggers & then looks at her "What do you know? Even now, you still think that I killed Professor Kaneda & Yamamura Shizuko. Am I wrong? You doubt me & yet come to me for help when you need me. With just a mere hint, you think that I am the criminal. How do you expect me to help someone like that?" "I don't think that way!" "Then prove it to me." Yoshino frowns, not understanding. "Prove to me that you won't double cross me," Takayama tells her, the look in his eyes darkening......
Takayama returns home, Yoshino following him inside. Staring at Mai asleep in bed, Takayama tells Yoshino "My sister's taken her medication & sleeping now. She was a little agitated earlier today." Yoshino asks "What proof were you talking about?" "I want my sister away from here. The police will be here shortly to take her away for questioning." "Why?!" "They suspect her of killing Professor Kaneda. This time round the police intend on making her the criminal," Takayama explains, taking his sleeping sister's hand. Yoshino looks on in disbelief "But...." "She's never stepped a foot out of this house. But I don't have the time right now to explain anything to the police." "Will you really help us?" "Only if you don't betray me......" Getting to his feet, Takayama says "So?" Yoshino gives a silent, hesitant nod & Takayama continues "Then it's a deal." Taking of his coat, Takayama adds "I'll give you another hint about Sadako, it might end up helping you. There is a simple rule regarding nensha." "A rule?" "nensha is the same as a magnetic force or the force of gravity. The further the distance, the weaker it gets." Yoshino ponders "The same as a magnetic or gravitational force?" Takayama moves directly in front of Yoshino "Take care of my sister. Don't say a word about this to anyone, including Asakawa-san. If you betray me, I will never forgive you." Yoshino finds herself at a loss for words.....
Over at the lab, Nagao tells Miyashita "Ogaki is watching us like a hawk. We can't afford another fiasco." Miyashita replies "I have an idea, & that's to set a trap. We'll start a rumor that we've discovered a new virus. Whoever it was that stole the virus before will surely try again. & in order for us to discover who the culprit is, we can put a trace inside the virus." "A trace?" Miyashita shows him a flask containing a green fluorescent chemical "These cells have been mixed with a portion of the DNA from fireflies. The luminous enzymes from the firefly DNA have been used in programs to leave behind a trace. We'll insert this into the new virus." "So if the stolen virus is used, the enzymes from the firefly DNA cells proliferated will be luminous? So that would mean the criminals would be found out for sure." "Yes."
Yoshino looks over Mai sleeping in her bed & sits at her desk, intending to go over some documents when the phone rings. Yoshino however, doesn't answer it but lets the answering machine come on "Hello, this is Yoshino. I'm unable to take your call at the moment so please leave a message." Asakawa's voice comes on "It's me, I'm sorry about just now. I shouldn't have said what I did, I'm sorry. Forgive me. Tomorrow....." Suddenly Yoshino picks up the phone "Hello...." From his car, Asakawa tells her "If you're at home than answer the call right away." "Are you still mad at me? You called to apologize, didn't you? Then continue." "What?" "Continue with your apology, I'll listen right to the end." "Aren't you being conceited?" Tension easing between the both of them. Yoshino asks "senpai, haven't you thought of this before?" Yoshino glances at Mai, sleeping on her bed "The effectiveness of nensha weakens with distance." "Why this all of a sudden?" "Nothing. I was just wondering if that could give us a clue." "Are you hiding something from me?" "No, don't worry about it. Bye, goodnight." Yoshino quickly hangs up. In his car, Asakawa ponders over Yoshino's words "The effectiveness of nensha weakens with distance." A thought occurs to Asakawa "Wait a minute!" Pressing a few buttons on his cell phone, he says "Yoshino?"
In the car by Yoshino's apartment building, Yoshino & Asakawa pour over some documents in his car. Yoshino tells him "These are the results of the survey. When was the first time one heard about the rumor regarding Matsuzaki Nao's video, what happened after that & what sort of changes occurred. We've analyzed all that." "I'm trying to find out where the rumor first started." "That would mean where the tape originated from?" "Yes. If the effectiveness of nensha weakens with distance, it means that Sadako is close by." A thought strikes Yoshino "senpai, take a look at this." Showing him a couple of maps on the screen of her notebook "These are maps of the regions showing when the rumor started regarding watching the video & then dying occurred. But this region is the first to have the rumor surface. That was about three months ago." "What happened over there?" "senpai, where do you think rumors spread from? A school of course! If we find a school in this region, we might be able to find out more about how the rumor first originated." Asakawa reaches for the street directory "It should be around this area, here, here & here," pointing to the map in the vicinity of Hachioji. "I'll head there right now. We'll split here." "Alright." "I get in touch with you if I find anything." Getting out of the car, Yoshino turns back & says "senpai, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been thinking about something that stupid." Asakawa admits "The same thing crossed my mind too." "If we find Sadako, we don't have to think about things like that anymore." "Yeah, we'll find her. & if there's anything, contact this person. She's a friend, the doctor I've spoken to. I've told her about you." Scribbling Miyashita's phone number on a piece of paper, Asakawa rips it out & hands it to Yoshino. "Thanks," replies Yoshino, taking it & watches as Asakawa drive off.....
Upstairs in Yoshino's apartment, Mai awakens......
Asakawa continues driving, ignorant of Yoshino's secret....
Yoshino enters her apartment & not seeing Mai anywhere, calls out "Mai-san?" Hearing the sound of water dripping from the tap, Yoshino takes a look into the bathroom "Mai-san?" Turning the dripping faucet off, Yoshino heads back into the living room. Suddenly, a sound comes from behind the door & she sees Mai in the standing in the corner, a doll in her hand. Startled, Yoshino stares at her when Mai suddenly mutters "Unu wa da-sen, yogora wo ageru." Stunned, Yoshino asks "What did you just say? Just who on earth are you?" Mai glares at Yoshino.....
In his home, books fall off the table as Takayama grabs his head in pain. Gasping, he tumbles onto the floor, writhing in agony.....
Asakawa steps down harder on the accelerator, speeding off into the dead of the night....Yoshino & Mai stare at each other with intensity.....Takayama, in excruciating pain......
5 days left....
