Hana*Hana Intro

Hana*Hana is made up of 2 members: Ano Makiko (on the left)
& Kojima Izumi (the right) and they are quickly becoming one of
my favorite artists.
The girls started Hana*Hana over 3 years ago and released
several singles & an album, 11 Songs (11 Songs +4 didn't come
until afterwards) before they hit it big in mid-2000 with the
Setagaya mix version of their single "A~ Yokatta," which they
performed at this year's Kouhaku, (the original version was released
on June 4, 1999). Ever since then, their popularity has been
skyrocketing, especially since their next single "Sayonara Daisuki na
Hito
" was the theme song of the popular family drama "Oyajii" (Oh
Father!). They have also released a new album entitled 2 Souls
& their newest release "Hanamuke no Hanataba" from the TV drama
Ururun Taizaiki is another great song.
Their style of music is a lot like Kiroro's--simple, soothing (it's
great to relax to!!), yet catchy. However, both girl of Hana*Hana
sing & play the piano (watching them perform "Sayonara Daisuki na
Hito" with 2 grand pianos side by side was pretty cool).
Their lyrics are simple, everyday lyrics, which, to me, is refreshing
from all those other songs with confusing metaphors & poetry. How
can one not love such endearing lyrics such as: "Let's become a
wrinkled old man & woman together" (Zutto Issho ni), or such
descriptions as: "There are 8 pairs of shoes between us which are at
the entrance of our place / We take them off & [they] scatter, [because
we] don't put them into the shoe cupboard" (Hanamuke no Hanataba)--
damn, this sounds like the homes in Hawaii too!!!

As for their voices, Kojima-san is the one with the clear, sweet voice,
while Ano-san has a softer, lower voice. Their harmonies are beautiful,
but individually, their voices are just as great as well (I prefer Ano's
voice more because Kojima tends to be a bit too loud at times).

Given their talent & music, I think they will probably stay in the Jpop
scene for a long time to come.
