Here are a few questions I have over the translation of the US release. Any comments would be most appreciated.

1 In general Character Names They went for phonetic spelling, such as Lafiel and Lexshue. I agree with their decision because the Abh spellings would only have confused audience. After all, casual Japanese viewers don't know how their name is spelled. Having said that, they have gone a bit too Japanese in some cases, IMO. I'm happy with "Lafiel" but "Jint" and "Lexsh", for example, would have been better in my view than "Jinto" and "Lexshue".
Names of the military ranks Again they went for simplicity. I can understand it and don't mind it, either. But it would have been nicer if they could come up with some words with the notion of numbers (see the Space Navy page). The names of the Abh ranks in Japanese are made up completely (that is, you don't find them in dictionaries) and, if Japanese viewers can appreciate brand-new terms, why not try them to English-speaking audience?
1 8:38 Your system will first be surveyed by our nobility. I don't know where the word "surveyed" come from. Dusanh simply says "a nobility will be appointed to your system."
16:45 throw bombs It's not a bomb but a "smoke candle." The people of Martin aren't that extreme.
18:58 King Abriel Nei Limzale Balke... As I said above, I am generally happy with the name changes but this is not acceptable. His family name is "Lamsar." "Limzale" is the name of the hotel where Jintec and Lamhirh stayed in later episodes.
19:27 ... our leader will be chosen within this system. "Leader" doesn't sound strong enough to me. Till uses a very humble word 'goshujin-sama,' which can't mean "Prime Minister" or "President." "Master" would have been my choice.
2 4:47 an Imperial uniform Ghintec is wearing an formal costume of an Abh nobleman but it is not a uniform.
6:42 being escorted away? Ghintec is very cynical here uses 'renkou,' which means "taken away (by police) as a criminal etc." I may be wrong but "escorted" sounds too moderate.
9:07 thief boys and an old lady JFYI, they speak in the local language and their speech is not subtitled in the R2 DVD. Ghintec probably understood what they said but Lamhirh wouldn't.
14:25 the Calicke, the shuttle attached to the Gosroth "Calicke" is not the name of the shuttle but the type of the shuttle. Actually it means "shuttle" ^_^;; I suspect the translator was confused as it is one of a few Abh words used in the anime.
14:55 a good-looking pilot This might be acceptable in ordinary Japanese-English translation but definitely not in the Seikai world. 'uruwashii' may often mean "good-looking" but Abh never care about how they look. They value themselves by how they behave, not how they look. If fact, she is offended when Ghintec tells her she is "good-looking" later in the series. "an elegant pilot" would be my translation.
3 7:28 the space-time cluster My English is not good enough to judge, but can you call something "a cluster" when it can exist alone?
4 3:21 1593.17 gedrels "kedrels" would have been much nicer ^_^;;
3:38 approximately 90 zezabo each It's "approximately 90 zaisacbau in total."
3:43 4 vessels Four vessels? How can four vessels make 120 space time bubble? It's "four battle-groups."
8:20 But they probably believe what they're doing is just Laicch is more cynical here. "But they probably want assurance to believe what they're doing is just."
9:46 Listen carefully, everyone "boys and girls." Laicch often treats her crew like her children. After all, she is much older than she looks.
9:46 It looks like you joined us just as war was breaking out 'iawaseta' in Japanese. As no sublect is given, no one can be realy sure, here Lamhirh is suprised by the attack as much as Ghintec. I'd say "We happen to be a place where war breaks out."
14:14 until you've earned your wings I'd say this is a very good translation as long as the audience knows the "wings" means those on the tiara.
14:55 the ex-emperor's meeting As those who read the Space Navy page on this site should know, the "Council" consists of ex-emperors and ex-kings.
17:23 I'm guessing that they're planning to attack us. The translation of this part seems very inaccurate. Laicch thinks the fleet is the enemy's vangard to attack Sfagnaumh and that is why they spare a battle group just to stop Gothlouth. Yet, she cannot exclude a possibility that they are secondary units on their way to support their fellow fleet that has already gone to Sfagnaumf. The mistake causes another one below.
17:47 this ship may have surrendered to them "The planet may have surrendered to them." Laicch thinks, in the worst case, Sfagnaumh is occupied by the hostile army by the time Ghintec reaches it. It turns out to be the case althought the reason is totally different. Anyway you don't use 'kanraku' to a ship.
Extra Apart from the obvious error in the list of the Abh alphabet, doesn't some part of the extra contents of the DVD seems annoyingly similar to my page? ^_^;;
