Shichi-go-san literally means seven, five & three. This celebration is held on November 15th.
As the name implies, this is celebrated by children who are ages seven, five & three- specifically
for girls aged 7 and 3 and for boys aged 5.
The children are dressed in their best clothes & together with their parents, visit shrines to pray for good fortune.
At the shrine, a special type of candy called Chitose-ame is sold.
Some girls wear kimonos with sashes while boys wear hakama, a kind of divided skirt.
This celebration originated during the Edo Period.
