TALISMANS, GOOD-LUCK CHARMS
Omamori
An omamori is a charm that ensures the safety of its holder. Many temples and shrines sell these talismans or good-luck charms.
Omamoris are either in paper such as the big white one at the center of the photo or in fabric. It bears the name of the temple or shrine on one
side and words of blessing on the other side. There are also some very valuable ones made of gold or silver. Some omamoris are to be kept at
home & some are to be carried by the owner. Some women carry them in their bags. There are no time limits on the effectiveness of the
charms. Some people even replace old charms with new ones every year but some people keep the old ones, too. There are talismans for good
health, safe child-bearing, safe travel, safe driving, passing examinations, prosperous business or just for plain all-around luck. They are reasonably
priced. Above are some of my own collection from visits to shrines and temples. .
