This is my first fanfic, and it happens seprately from my regular series. Hope you enjoy it.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I wrote this fanfic during the summer, when I was on the road with my family, and had some time to try out our new laptop. This is between the Sailor Moon episodes "Cherry Blossom Time" and "Kindergarten Chaos." I promised a few people my new series was going to be out this week, but I'm swamped with homework this weekend, and in order for me to rent a video game I have to finish all of it. So, enjoy! --RAR
Amy finished the geometry textbook she was studying for her exam. It was six o'clock, and the bright sun was setting over the Tokyo skyline. Amy stared out of the window. On a night like this, if she wasn't studying for an exam or doing a project for computer school, Amy would go by Serena's house and help her study, or go visit Raye at the Cherry Hill Temple. Or maybe have some of Lita's good cooking, or take a walk with Mina, or...
Her thoughts wandered to Greg. Amy hadn't seen Greg since she rescued him from the brainwashed Tuxedo Mask. It seemed like ages ago that she rode in the Ferris wheel at the amusement park with him. Greg was a very special person. He had a crush on Amy ever since she had won the State Exams and had her picture in the news, and finally got to meet her when he was transferred to Crossroads Junior High School. Serena helped get the two of them hooked up, and she gave Greg a picture of her eating a hamburger at Serena's birthday party. Amy soon learned that he was psychic, and that was because he was one of the Rainbow Crystal carriers. He had been Bumboo during the wars with the Moon Kingdom, and Amy remembered what he had said to her when he realized his fate: "If I become a monster, you have to PROMISE to destroy me." She told him the future was something you built by yourself. Other than the other Sailor Scouts and Darien, Greg was the only person who knew she was Sailor Mercury. Sailor Moon finally healed him, but most of his psychic nature had diminished, and he had to transfer back into his old school. Amy had given him her school picture from her old school. As the train left, she ran by it until it reached the end of the platform.
Amy sighed, then started on her calculus homework. She was getting straight A's in it, and everyone said it was the hardest course in the world. She had only finished two problems when the phone rang.
"Hello, Anderson residence," she said, picking it up.
"Amy! I'm so glad to hear your voice again!"
"Greg! You're back in town?"
"Yeah! My dad is at a conference, and I wanted to go along so I could see you again."
"Thank you for calling, Greg. I have a mountain of homework and I need to study for three exams tonight!"
"I know. We have this big project at my school I have to work non stop on. I got into Pre-Calculus last semester!"
"That's good, Greg! I have to go now. Maybe you can call later and set something up!"
"Okay. I'll see you!"
"Good bye!" Amy hung up the phone. She recalled the last conversation on the phone she had with Greg. It was on a cold night, the night when Prince Darien sought to trap all of the Rainbow Crystal carriers. That night seemed to have been the longest in her life.
There was a knocking at her door. "Come in," Amy said, looking up.
It was Mina and Artemis. "Mina! Artemis! How are you?" she said.
"I'm doing fine," Mina said. "I just decided to come by and see how you were feeling."
"Greg's back in town," Amy said. "You remember him? You weren't with us when I met him, but you were when we healed Tuxedo Mask."
"Luna's told me about him," Artemis said. "Speaking of Luna, she's having a meeting tomorrow at the temple. I hope you're not too loaded with homework to come."
"Easy for you to say, Artemis," Amy said. "I have homework in calculus, English, and social studies, and tests in geometry, physics and biology!"
Mina looked surprised. "I'd better go to let you study," she said, blushing. "I have lots of homework myself."
"See you tomorrow then," Amy said. "Good bye!"
It was a windy Sunday in Tokyo, and Serena, Amy, Lita, Mina and Raye were assembled at the Cherry Hill Temple with Luna and Artemis.
"Let's get down to business," Luna said. "I've been wondering about these Cardians. Do you have any thoughts, Serena?"
Serena was buried in a comic book that Raye had let her borrow.
"Serena, are you listening?"
Serena tilted back her head and laughed.
"SERENA!" With one swipe of her claws, Luna slashed the comic book into strips.
"Luna, that was the best part! Why did you do that? Wahhh!" Tears gushed out of Serena's eyes as she surveyed the wreckage.
"Before I was so rudely interrupted, I have a hunch that these creatures are being controlled by someone or something."
"But what about the Moonlight Knight?" Lita said. "He could be behind this, because he always shows up to help us. Tuxedo Mask always showed up when he was on the Negaverse's side, didn't he?"
"He did that just to get the Silver Emperium Crystal," Mina said.
"Maybe Serena is at the bottom of this," Raye said, "because she wails so much everything is drawn to her!"
"Raye, stop it!" Serena wailed.
"You're acting like big babies. We need to listen to Luna!" Amy said. She rested her head again and continued to stare at the blowing leaves.
"Hey Amy," Artemis said, "you haven't said one word during this entire meeting! Is it Greg?"
"Yes. Greg's back in town, and he called me last night."
"Greg? Your boyfriend?" Lita said. "What's up with him?"
"I think he wants to go out with me. I don't know what to say to him. He said he would call tonight."
"Really?" Serena finally stopped wailing. "Hey, we can set you up with him! Give you a total makeover, a new dress, a place to meet..."
"At least she's interested in the conversation now," Luna said to Artemis.
"Really, Serena," Amy said, "it's probably not going to be a very big thing. Besides, I've only had one date with him. So I think we should go easy."
"You are so lucky, Amy! I can't even talk to Chad about going out without completely blowing it!" Raye complained.
"We'd better get back to the meeting. You can tell us what happened with Greg tomorrow, and we can help you get a date," Mina said.
That night, Amy pounded away at the keys of her computer. Tomorrow would be her quarterly exam in computer school, and that was the only exam she had forgotten to study last night. She stared anxiously at the phone, waiting for it to ring.
Amy thought back to the first day she really knew Greg. They were taking the semester exam together, and Greg was sitting by her. He was very frustrated, and was hurriedly erasing a wrong answer when the eraser flew out of his hand and struck Amy. She gave it to him and said "Don't worry. It's only a test!"
Then she thought back to that morning when she was walking to school by the construction site for the new VR arcade. Greg had went by her, said hello, and tried to tell her something. The something he tried to tell her was that a steel beam would fall down directly in her path. It smashed a cement truck, but Amy was not hurt.
Amy snapped out of her reverie as the phone rang. She picked it up. "Hello, Greg?"
"Hi Amy! How are you doing?"
"Oh, I'm trying to prepare for my computer exam, and its going to be very tough!"
"Well...maybe this is not a good time to call."
"No, Greg, don't go. Tell me where you're staying, and I'll call you back and set something up."
"I'm staying at the Westside Hotel until Friday. Okay?"
"Okay. I'll see you soon, Greg!"
"Bye!" Greg hung up, and Amy returned to her studying. She remembered when she, as Sailor Mercury, and Greg were trying to escape from Tuxedo Mask. They hid in the amusement park, and Greg said how much he'd like to go there with her. Amy kept thinking she was too busy, having super-advanced classes, computer school and being a Sailor Scout, but she learned an important lesson that night.
Serena arrived in Miss Haruna's homeroom only seconds after the bell rang.
"Everyone here, and of course, Serena with another tardy mark," Miss H said.
"Aw..." Three more tardy marks and Serena would have detention for the third time that month!
The day moved by, with Serena getting one bad grade and another in her subjects, and a C- on an English test. She went outside for lunch period with Molly. They sat down under the old oak tree that shaded Crossroads Junior High School for many years.
"So, Molly, how is it going with Melvin?" Serena asked.
"Why do you ask?" Molly said. "We haven't really been together out of school since the Cherry Blossom Festival."
"Do you think about Neflite a lot?"
"Well, I really liked him when he was just plain Maxfield Stanton, but I loved him even more when he told me the truth...the night I lost him." A single tear rolled out of Molly's beautiful green eye.
"I shouldn't have asked you," Serena said, sympathetically.
"That's okay," Molly said. "I like to be reminded of him. He's always in my heart--"
"Hidy-ho, ladies!"
Melvin, in his trademark thick glasses, popped up behind Serena and Molly. "Melvin, we were having a PRIVATE conversation," Serena said.
"I see you were talking about lovebirds," Melvin said. "It just so happens that I got free tickets for Molly and me to the new Tunnel of Love!" Melvin took the tickets out of the pocket of his school suit.
"Wow!" Serena said. (I can get a pair for Amy,) she thought. (That way she'll be able to go out with Greg!)
Alan sauntered by, followed by his entourage of admirers. "Hello, Serena!" he said.
"Oh, hi Alan," Serena said. Alan was hunky, but a bit strange. He looked around, expecting Ann to pop out at any minute and give him a lecture.
"Did you hear about the Tunnel of Love that just opened up at the amusement park?" Melvin said. "I won tickets for it from a contest on the Internet! I bet Molly would love to go with me."
"Sure I would, but don't dress up as Tuxedo Melvin again!" Molly said.
"Hey Melvin, can I have them?" Serena asked. "My friend Amy is going to go out with Greg some night, and--"
"The Tunnel of Love? Count me in!"
Ann came up from behind the tree. She also was strange, but she and Alan were brother and sister. Strange people run in the family.
"Give me them! I'll go with Darien, and--"
"Darien? No way, he's my boyfriend, and he's been that way before you even came here, Ann!" Serena said.
"Hey, he doesn't even like you, MEATBALL HEAD!"
"OOOH! I'll get you for that, Ann!"
"See you later." Ann sauntered off.
"Ann is so rude," Molly said. "But I'll go with you anyway, as long as we double date. I don't want you to act real crazy."
"Hey, Moll," Serena said, "my friend Amy might like to go with you two! I'll go and tell her!"
Lita and Amy were playing ball with some other girls when Serena ran by. "Amy! Amy!" she yelled. "Listen to this--Ow!" The ball came down from where Lita knocked it and hit Serena on the head.
"Serena! Are you all right?" Amy said when Serena recovered.
"Yeah, I'm fine, but guess what! I heard about the new Tunnel of Love! Melvin and Molly are going, and they want to double date!"
"Why would you want to go there?" Lita asked.
"Amy wants to go there with Greg, don't you?"
"Serena, this is great, but...I just thought Greg and I could have a nice walk in the park or something! I don't want to overdo it!" Amy said.
"Amy, this is your first big date! You've gotta try it!" Lita said. "Freddy never did things like that, so I dumped him. Served him right!"
"I thought she still likes him, because every guy she sees reminds her of him!" Serena muttered to Amy.
"I still don't think so," Amy said. Just then the bell rang for afternoon classes, and they dashed into the school.
Darien was walking down the street, heading for the Crown Game Center to chat with his best friend Andrew. Ann was at an intersection, ready to purposely bump into him.
Darien came closer, and Ann walked out. They knocked each other down.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Darien!" Ann said, helping Darien up.
"Uh...Hi, Ann. So nice to bump into you," Darien said.
"Hey, Darien, I just heard about the Tunnel of Love! Do you want to go with me tonight? It's a really great place!"
"I'm sorry, Ann, but I'm busy. I have to be tested for my black belt tonight, then I have to go to dinner with Andrew and his girlfriend. Maybe some other time."
"Oh, please Darien!" Ann pleaded. "I really want to go with you!"
"I really have to go now, Ann. I need to go get some paperwork from a friend of mine. See you." Darien walked off, leaving Ann fuming.
Amy walked down the street to the Westside Hotel and boarded the glass elevator. She had a gift for Greg--a pocket calculator she had gotten but hardly ever used because she could do so much math in her head. The elevator stopped at the fifth floor, and Amy got out and knocked at the door of Room 541.
Greg answered. "Amy! You're here!" he said. "You haven't changed!"
"Neither have you," Amy said. "I have a calculator for you. I hardly need to use it, I do math so fast in my head!"
'Thanks. I really need it," Greg said. "Come on in."
Amy went into the hotel room, which was about the same as any old hotel room anywhere. Greg gave her a can of soda, and Amy drank it.
"Amy, I have to tell you something. I had a vision last night. These creatures were draining energy from innocent people, and I was one of them!"
"Oh, my! The Scouts are fighting these two Negaverse aliens that unleash these Cardians! Your vision is true!"
"Yeah, I know. But at least you're Sailor Mercury."
"Greg, I was wondering. Serena told me about a new Tunnel of Love that opened up in the amusement park. Do you want to go? We're going to double date with Melvin and Molly."
"Would I! I've wanted to go there with you ever since I heard about it! How about Friday night?"
"Well, I do have computer school until five o'clock, but after that I'm free! I guess it's a date, Greg!"
Luna and Serena were in Serena's room, cleaning up after one of Sammy's friends came over.
"I'm gonna get a lock on this door and set zillions of traps so that thing won't get in anymore!" Serena growled, stacking up her Sailor V comics.
"You should do this more often, Serena. No wonder you can't find anything in here."
Serena's phone rang. "Hello, Serena speaking!" she said.
"Serena, hi! This is Amy. Greg and I have decided to go to the Tunnel of Love this Friday with Molly and Melvin!"
"Amy, that's great! I'll call Molly and tell her the news. See you!" Serena hung up. "Did you hear that, Luna? Amy's going on her first date! I'm gonna tell the other scouts about this!!" Serena grabbed her communicator.
"Serena, that's for Sailor...oh, well. She'll never listen to me." Luna settled down on Serena's celestial comforter.
"Hey Raye! Amy's going on a date--"
"SERENA! I was just meditating! I won't talk to you!" Raye ended the link.
"Mina, hi! Guess what? Amy's going on a date Friday night!"
"That's nice, Serena, but I really have to get back to my homework. See you."
"Lita! Amy's going out with Greg!"
"I was just making a soufflé! Now its gonna be ruined, thanks to you!"
"Won't ANYBODY listen to me?" Serena wailed. She began crying.
(There she goes again,) Luna thought.
Serena dialed Molly's number when she brightened up. "Molly, Amy is going to go with you on Friday night!"
"That's great, Serena! Now the only thing I'm hoping for is that Melvin won't make a total fool of himself!"
"And I hope Amy will be surprised when me and my friends come over and give her a total makeover! Gotta go now, buh-bye!"
It was Friday evening, an hour before Amy's big date. Amy was just finishing her homework when Raye arrived, carrying a beautiful corsage.
"Hello, Raye. Is that...for me?" Amy asked.
"Sure is! I cast a spell on it so you could have good luck!" Raye handed her the flower, a fragrant Oriental lily.
Mina came in next with her makeup bag (which was being carried by a disgruntled Artemis.) "I have all of the best makeup if you want to look pretty," she said, showing Amy one of her compacts.
Lita came in with some barrettes, ribbons and brushes, followed by Serena and Luna, who had some chocolate muffins.
"What are you all doing here?" Amy asked, puzzled.
"We've come to give you a total makeover for your first date!" Serena said. "Have you picked out a dress yet?"
"Well, I was thinking about wearing my blue one, but..."
"Let's see what we can do with your hair," Lita said. "I may be one good cook, but when it comes to makeovers I'm tops!"
"Please!" Amy's voice raised up to a level that none of the Scouts knew about. "I don't want to get all nervous before my first date, so you can all forget about this!" Amy knelt at her table and began crying.
"Amy, what's wrong?" Artemis asked.
"I don't know. I'm so scared about this. I've never been on a real date before."
"Relax, Amy," Lita said. "I was like this before the first time I went out with Freddy. I was so confused about what to do."
"Really?" Amy brightened up a bit.
"Yeah," Lita said.
"Greg will be here any minute, so we'd better get going if you want to look your best!" Raye said.
Amy's friends went to work. Soon Amy had two pearly barrettes in her shiny blue-black hair, lipstick on her lips, eyeliner on her eyes, and Raye's lily on the white sweater she was wearing with her blue dress. The Scouts left before Greg arrived.
"Amy, you look wonderful!" Greg said. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants and carried a small handbag. "Oh, by the way, I got this for you. To keep all your Scout stuff in." He gave the bag to Amy.
"Thank you," she said. The handbag was white with blue edges. "Molly and Melvin will be meeting us at the park, so we better get going."
Darien was having a rough day. It turned out that he failed his black belt test, and Andrew's girlfriend had a delay in Nairobi and wouldn't be arriving in Tokyo until next week. So he decided to take his mind off all that and enjoy the amusement park. He paid the admission and decided to buy some ice cream at the food cart.
"Darien! Hello!"
Amy walked by with Greg.
"Hello, Amy! Who's this?"
"This is Greg! Greg, meet Darien." Amy introduced Greg to Darien.
"Nice to meet you," Greg said.
"Greg! They're here!" Amy called.
"Oh, there they are. Nice to meet you." Greg ran over to Amy and introduced himself to Molly and Melvin. Darien turned and walked away.
(Funny,) he thought. (I seem to have met that boy before.)
Serena stepped through the gates of the park. Luna was perched on her shoulder. "Serena, I don't think you should be spying on Amy and Greg. They want to be alone tonight," she said.
"Luna, they're not alone. Besides, Molly and Melvin are going with them! I just want to see them go through the Tunnel of Love!"
"Really, Serena..."
"Hey, Meatball Head! What are you doing here?" Darien had come up behind Serena and was rubbing Luna on the head.
"Hello, Darien! Amy and Greg are here, and I want to see how they are doing! By the way, have you seen that new Tunnel of Love?"
"Andrew's been in it with Rita. He says its just a boat ride in a pink tunnel. Really dumb."
"Uhh, Darien, uh, do you want to go through it with me?" Serena asked. "I just got my allowance, and its right nearby, and..."
"Maybe, Meatball Head. Right now I'm gonna get some ice cream."
"Count me in!" Serena squealed. "I hope they have double chocolate fudge ripple!"
They headed towards the ice cream stand together, unaware that a pair of red-brown eyes was watching them through a bush. Ann was infuriated. (That stupid Darien!) she thought.
A touch on her shoulder made Ann jump. "Alan!! You startled me!" she said.
"Ann, I've found a new source of energy! The new Tunnel of Love is so popular! Everyone's going through it with their boyfriends or girlfriends. They think it will make them love each other even more. So all their love energy goes to waste."
The two of them teleported inside the Tunnel of Love and reverted to their alien form. Hiding behind a huge metal heart, Alan produced a set of cards.
"Pick a Cardian, any Cardian," he said to Ann.
Ann's finger moved along the fanned out deck until she stopped it. The card she had chosen hovered above them.
"Cardian Minotaura, I command you to come forth!" Alan took out his exoticly carved flute and played the song of summoning.
The image on the card was a huge bull with gilded horns. In flashes of vapor, it came forth.
"Minotaura, I command you! Drain all the energy out of these lovebirds!"
"Consider it done." Minotaura disappeared.
Molly, Melvin, Amy and Greg had just finished a romantic ride on the carousel and were heading towards the Tunnel of Love.
"This is great!" Melvin said. "First the bumper cars, then the roller coaster, then the merry-go-round, and now this!" Little cupids held up the Tunnel of Love sign over the entrance, and pink boats shaped like swans graced the waters.
"Do you have the tickets, Melvin?" Amy asked.
"I sure do," Melvin said. He took a pair of tickets out of his pocket.
"Melvin, there doesn't seem to be a line!" Molly said. "I feel so lucky! Come on, we need to go in there!"
The two couples ran to the ticket booth. Molly and Melvin boarded one boat, and Amy and Greg boarded the other.
"We're off!" Greg said, as he settled down in the seat.
"Greg?"
"Yeah, Amy?"
"I really felt scared before you came here, but my friends managed to cheer me up."
"Really? I felt the same way, too. Isn't this romantic? Just the night for a boat ride."
"I really think the Tunnel of Love is a waste of money," Amy said. "But I really don't mind, because its relaxing."
"Pretty dorky, but I like it a lot. Hey, remember that day when we went here and rode the Ferris wheel?"
"Yes. The night before that was the longest one in my life. I really felt close to you then--"
Amy was cut off by two screams. Ahead of them, at a turn, was Molly and Melvin, energy drained, sittling limply in the boat.
"You're next!"
Amy and Greg turned to see Minotaura behind them, ready to drain their energy. "Greg! Run!" Amy and Greg leaped out of the boat and onto the service walk behind the romantic scenery.
"That was close!" Amy said. "Better do my duty!" Amy opened the purse Greg had given her and took out her transformer stick.
"MERCURY POWER!!!"
Greg had never seen Amy transform into Sailor Mercury before, and was rather awed by it. Amy's stick let loose a stream of blue that rippled and flowed like water. She twirled it around herself, then created ripples as the blue formed her costume. When she was done, Sailor Mercury was standing in her spot.
"Amy! Look out!" It was Greg. Minotaura was behind him, ready to suck up all his energy.
"Mercury Bubbles! BLAST!" Amy created a stream of bubbles to shield herself and Greg from the Cardian's clutches. Then Greg screamed--his energy was being drained! Suddenly, Luna appeared, clawing the face of the Cardian and breaking her grip. "Pesky cat!" Minotaura yelled.
"Luna! Where's Serena?" Amy asked.
"She's outside, Sailor Mercury! I knew you needed backup!"
"Get her in here! I don't think I can hold out any longer!"
As Serena passed by the Tunnel of Love licking her double chocolate fudge ripple ice cream cone, she noticed one of the swan boats passing by. Molly and Melvin were inside, unconsious.
"Moll? Melvin? Are you all right?" Serena asked. In a flash, Luna was at her side.
"Serena, Amy and Greg are in trouble! Quickly, come with me!"
"But Luna, what about my ice cream?"
"Toss it! This is critical!"
Serena reluctantly tossed her half finished cone away and went with Luna. They reached the entrance of the Tunnel of Love and boarded a swan boat.
"Now--transform!"
"MOON CRYSTAL POWER!" Serena took off her locket and touched the Silver Moon Crystal inside. Bathed in shimmering pink light, Serena changed into Sailor Moon in a shower of feathers.
As the boat rounded the corner, the Mercury Bubbles began to break up. Amy's face showed within the mist. "Now I've got you!" Minotaura laughed.
"Hold it right there!"
"Huh? Who are you?"
Sailor Moon did her traditional greeting. "I am Sailor Moon, and that's Sailor Mercury's boyfriend you're toying with! I fight for lo-ove and justice! On behalf of the Moon--"
"And on behalf of Sailor Mercury!" Amy said.
"WE WILL PUNISH YOU!" they said, together.
"It doesn't take a snappy entrance to make me stop my plan!" Minotaura said. Suddenly she began to charge directly at them. She was almost an inch away, when--a white rose flew down between them.
"The Moonlight Knight!" Serena and Amy exclaimed.
The Moonlight Knight, dressed in an Arabian Nights type of outfit with a mask, stood on top of a huge metal cupid. "Love is the most precious of emotions, and you choose to destroy it!"
"This turban boy really knows how to ruin my moment!" said the Cardian, charging. The Knight leapt out of the way.
"Now, Sailor Moon! Use your scepter!"
Serena had the Moon Scepter in her hand. She waved it around to activate it. "Moon Scepter! ELIMINATION!" The crown on the scepter unleashed swirling pink sparkles with a bunch of blue stars and a whirling moon.
Minotaura was hit, and vaporized, screaming, into the card it had came from. The card fell to the ground, and the card's face burned and turned black.
"Thank you, Sailor Moon, for helping to rid the world of hate! See you around." The Moonlight Knight vanished as mysteriously as he had come.
Greg stirred and opened his eyes. "Amy? Is that you?"
"Yes, its me, Greg," Amy said. She and Serena had delivered him, Molly and Melvin to the First Aid office, and Greg was lying down. The energy gone out of him was slowly creeping back.
"You've saved my life three times now. I really owe you one now."
"Oh, Greg..." Amy swiftly kissed him on the cheek. "You don't need to do anything--just stay out of trouble. I'm so sorry this date didn't go as planned."
"That's OK. We can always go to dinner and a movie."
"Dinner and a movie?" Serena said. She was getting excited. "Oh, maybe I can lend you some romantic movies, and Lita can cook for you, and Raye can make you some love charms, and..."
