Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow.... - Flecker, The Golden Journey to Samarkand

There and Back Again...

Those who have known me a long time know my love for the outdoors, especially mountains (like Cerro Torre in the Patagonias - left). Unfortunately, I stopped doing a lot outdoors after I graduated from McGill in 92. Many of my outdoors buddies left town after graduation. It also didn't help that the the people I hung out with and the girls I went out with after that were city slickers and didn't much care for the outdoors. By 1995, when I went to HongKong, I wasn't doing anything outdoorsy, except walking from my house to my car.
Well, I'm happy to report that things have come full circle. After I moved from home, and especially after my brother moved to Calgary, I started playing outdoors again. At first it was whenever I went to visit my brother - hiking Kindersley's Pass in BC and skiing at Louise and 'Rama. Now I climb, hike, ski and backpack. This year I've started backcountry skiing, and in Australia (1992), I started scuba diving. I make an annual trip with Lynne to the White Mountains and I try to get out to the Rockies at least once a year as well. As you can see, my favorite playground is the mountains, though I intend to tackle Ontario's numerous waterways by canoe in the upcoming summers.
